I'd have to agree with Doug on this one: If the M6 didn't cost 96k I would like it a lot more. Not helping the fact is that the M5 is essentially the same thing, but with two more doors and 15 grand less.

Length:
- BMW M6: 190.2"
- Porsche 911 S: 175.6"

Width:
- BMW M6: 73.0"
- Porsche 911 S: 71.2"

Height:
- BMW M6: 54.1"
- Porsche 911 S: 51.6"

Weight:
- BMW M6: 3909lbs
- Porsche 911 S: 3075lbs

That is the most POINTLESS way to compare why it's a pointless car.
The MC12 must be a pretty pointless car too. It's longer, and wider, isn't street legal in the US, and can't be used everyday.

If those are 911 S stats, the 911 GT3 must be pointless as well. XLR-V is as well. BTW, last I checked, the price was made up in power and options as a 911 Carrera S doesn't have 500Hp.

Personally, I don't think the difference in pace between the M6 and 911 is wide enough to support paying £20,000 more for the BMW.

It's simplily the M5 that renders the M6 pointless. It's cheaper, more practical, everybit as quick and arguably better handling then it's coupe brother.

You don't even have to compare it to the 911S, which has been proven to be quicker in real world conditions anyway.

Not so sure you're going to get any argument out of that.

True. But the BMW M5 doesn't cost $96,000, either. And the Carrera S is faster anyways. Just like the Shelby GT500 is slower than the Ford SVT Cobra, but the Cobra costs less and has a lot less BHP.

seriously what is the point of this argument, so someone thinks the m6 is crap, whatever, its an opinion, so what?

the m6 wasnt intended to compete with a porsche.

the porsche 911 s is a sports car, good handling, decent power, not the most practical car built.

the m6 is a large luxury saloon, with plenty of oomph and space enough for all your luggage.

Comparing these two is like trying to compare a carving knife to a wooden spoon...so please just dont bother.

trying to come back on topic now, but i havent seen anything worth mentioning today so its a little difficult :(
Mind you, just a little way down the road i was surprised to see a blue skyline R32 with calsonic decals and goodies, wonder if its a real GTR or not :)

Rendering it pointless, as the M5 already fills that hole in the BMW product line.

Based on everyone else's responses here (and based on the amount of M6s I've seen on the street - still zero in Denver) it seems I'm not in the wrong in this opinion.

Fair point.
And the MC12 was hardly intended for the average... slightly richer joe. Can you see it carrying the shopping?

Anywhome:
Merc. SL65 (AMG) V12 Biturbo. Guilty of seeing it a couple months ago. 👍

I never said your opinion was wrong for a start, thats what opinions are all about, its your own thinking pattern after all.

I can see your point in this matter, but even so, i would prefer the M6 over the M5 if i had the money, it does look more attractive to my eyes. Plus may i also point out that i was wrong in saying the M6 was a saloon, as its a two door coupé, unlike the M5 which is slightly more passenger friendly.

The SL65 is stunning. Still one of the best looking cars on sale today.

Great spot.

Saw a CLS 55 //AMG walking around tonight, surveying the damage, would have brought a camera, but was charging, and ther was no electricty. :ouch:

I need to start riding with a camera.

I've decided the M6 doesn't actually exist. I've seen four; they're just rebadged 650s. After all, who would be dumb enough to pay $95k for a car that's competing with - yet nowhere near as good as - the Porsche 911?

Then why pay $100K for a V8 Vantage? Why $120K plus for a Maranello when the E63 is shown that it can set statistics as good as they?

For people who have a reasonable understanding of cars (especially the M5 & M6), the M5 is the better choice, for all the reasons stated previously. But the real reason for it & the convertible version (and other GT/supercar convertibles) is to show off. It's all about image, plain and simple. For every person who thinks the 6-Series looks blobby and choppy, I think there's two more who think it's just awesome. Now put a 500HP V10 in there; it's sure to appeal to them.

Most "high-performance" cars are really about image anyway, and lobbing off the roof -- which does nothing positive for performance or safety -- can only be about one thing: being seen. Sure, enjoying the sunshine at 140MPH is cool, but that's hardly the most likely speed that car will be travelling at, as can be witnessed in LA, Miami, and (as shown by M5Power) Atlanta.

seriously what is the point of this argument, so someone thinks the m6 is crap, whatever, its an opinion, so what?

Strongly agreed. 👍 I'm all for sharing opinions, but you can't use that as the basis for whether a car is "good" or not and trying to "prove it" to people. There's no arguing about a Ssang-yong, though....

Tell that to BMW....

Merc. SL65 (AMG) V12 Biturbo. Guilty of seeing it a couple months ago. 👍

Not guilty of seeing it, just guilty of keeping it from us. :D Is it really that color, or is that just an artifact from the lighting? The SL65 is the only car I can't "build" on MBUSA's web site, and nothing matches it for other models.

This past week was really busy in regards to photo op's. However, the winter has not been kind to me. The early sunset and rainy weather have made it nearly impossible to get a decent shot. Here's a good example:

That's a BMW M5, if you can believe it. All sorts of things passed by me: Z4 M Coupe, E63 AMG, the yellow Saleen S281E I'm trying to get a better shot of.... No worky. :ouch: What did come through is, of course, below. And yes, I finally got around to figuring out how to use Imageshack.

Plymouth Barracuda

Not sure the spec level, but it seems to be a base model because of the lack of markings. Seen right next to a small gas station/garage that has a different C1 Corvette every day. They do other stuff, too. Odd place for classic 'Vette maintenance.

Ferrari 355 Spider

Slightly broken. I don't forsee it being fixed at that gas station.

Lincoln Blackwood

Only one I've ever seen. Definitly would have mistaken it for a F-150 if it weren't for the Yankee pinstriping. No wonder it never sold. Neat artifact of marketing, though.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition

Never heard of it. Is it a factory limited edition or some local package? It had black-painted wheels, some black-colored addenda, and a bull bar. The other photos hardly came out in the poor light.

Jaguar XK8 Victory

At least, I think it's the Victory edition. The small badge below the left taillight is hard to read, but the different wheels (which I should have photographed) led me to it.

Ferrari 355 Spider

Is the front end all smashed up?

Jeep Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition

It was hard to keep track of all the special edition Grand Cherokees, but that's one I'm very familiar with, in part because it has what have to be the best looking alloy wheels of any automobile ever manufactured. That model was available only in 2004, that model's final year, and only available as a factory-installed option on Laredo models (not Limiteds or Overlands). Essentially, all it was was the wheels, roof racks, and those odd running boards. To my knowledge, it was available only in three colors: silver, dark silver, and red, a bright color which is gorgeous. It's a good sighting. I haven't seen any in Atlanta, and even in Denver they're hard to come by, but here's a nice (red!) one on AutoTrader in suburban Detroit. Good sighting! 👍

I saw a Terminator 3 edition Tundra a couple days back... First one I've seen, ever. Rare truck?

Unbelievably rare. They were made for maybe a month. I saw one, once, about a month and a half ago. In pure numbers I'd say we're talking about the rarest Japanese vehicle imported to the US since 17-digit VIN numbers started in 1981 (according to a post on a Toyota Tundra forum, 850 were made). Type it into Google Images and you don't even get a full page of results. When they were first released, I went by my Toyota dealer several times hoping to get a glimpse of one - no luck. Wish you had a photo - and I wish I had photographed the one I saw this summer.

OH SNAPS!!

Agreeing with Mclaren, I find it a little tough to believe you found all 3 of these on the street. you were at an event or there was one very near by, I'd consider the chances of seeing these 3 somewhere around 400 mil to 3. Probably more like 100 mil to 3 if in Europe.

i didnt see any of them. i was calling the 3 photographers lucky gits!!!!

i thought i better post it ebcause it is not common someone seeing an edonis
?

Well, I do see it around a couple times a month, so if I ever happen to have a camera on me, then I will definitely snap a few.

Had a pretty good day. One of the main causes of that was the SEC Championship, a college football game for the Southeastern Conference championship between the University of Florida and the University of Arkansas. Every so often, someone who graduated from UF gets rich (not Arkansas - they remain poor) and so consequently, nice cars were out today prior to the game. Streets were so full they had police crossing guards, which meant I couldn't sit on my normal corner (for fear of getting admonished by local cops), so I had to walk around, which proved just as good. Short on time tonight, so mostly pictures:

997-tt.jpg

Saw the first 997 911 Turbo on July 22. Took me until November 25 to see another. Still can't figure that out. Oddly, I saw two this week:

997-tt2.jpg

They're not the same. The first one was taken in Denver.

spider1.jpg

Meh. Georgia plate "STRT LGL". Unlike the MC12...

coupe-1.jpg

Meh again.

maybach-2.jpg

Maybach 57S. See this every week. For better pics go to previous posts.

phaeton.jpg

Phaeton W12. Saw at least one today, and maybe two. Handicapped plates, if you can believe it.

e63.jpg

Merc E63. Usually wouldn't photograph this sort of thing but I couldn't resist. Saw four new M5s today as well.

car.jpg

What the hell is this? And why does it have a gigantic trunk on the back of it? Like - a TRUNK?

alfa.jpg

Old Alfa. Probably worthless, like most old Alfas.

bentleys.jpg

Saw four of these today. One parked nearly next to me and I refused to photograph it. As I've said before - if they won't go to any trouble to design it, why should I go to any trouble to photograph it?

c-t-s-2.jpg

Cayenne Turbo S. Saw two of these today. Two S's! Very cool, but getting more common.

e-amg-wag.jpg

E55 wagon. Not sure if you can tell it's an E55 wagon from the pic, but I saw the car twice today and this is the best I could do. I was stunned, though, needless to say. Probably my personal sighting of the day, exotic though it's not. One of less than 500 here in the states (Merc originally claimed 100, but that number isn't accurate).

Now for the "really" exotic sightings:

360-2.jpg

White guy with attractive white female companion.

360m2.jpg

Black guy got into this one with a very attractive black woman. Gave the valet a high-five. Of sorts. Gwinnett County plates (suburban Atlanta). That car seen from another angle:

360s.jpg

The red one is a Spider. This Spider:

360spid.jpg

Speaking of red Ferraris, there was also this:

f4303.jpg

Ferrari of Beverly Hills temporary plates. Ferraris are not done for the day though:

456-1.jpg

Seen this one before, got a better pic last time. Was on the phone when I saw this so I think I did well given the circumstances. Speaking of Ferraris, did I mention this?

frf.jpg

Speaking of Phantoms, did I mention these?

phantom-3.jpg

phantom2-3.jpg

How do you guys like the gold one? I'm on the fence, but I know the wheels are awful (especially compared with the chromes on that black one). Speaking of big British sedans running the 6.75-liter V8:

arnage-2.jpg

Florida plate "BIG BEN" being driven by an overweight, ugly, mid-40s woman. Speaking of that engine:

corniche.jpg

The F430, 360 Modena, and Phantom were parked in valet when this guy showed up and this car (a Rolls Corniche) didn't warrant being parked in that company. I was stunned.

Here's an interesting one:

sl55.jpg

When I took the photo I thought it was an SL65, which I didn't know existed (edit: I didn't know red ones existed :D) until Zukashiri posted a shot of one the other day. Upon reviewing the pics, turns out it's not all that special - just an SL55, with the SL65 front air dam and wheels. You can tell because it says "V8 KOMPRESSOR" on the side, not "V12 BITURBO." I was upset when I realized that.

There's the day!

December 2, 2006 - Atlanta, Ga.

That's a pretty awesome day, M5. Blows my sighting of an SC430 out of the water, eats it, burns the remains, flushes them down the toilet, then kills it. :) Maybe if I went into Boston every now and again I'd see some nice ones, but I just don't have a purpose to :indiff: Cool shots though!

I like the Phaeton and the two Turbos the best though.

 Wow! I need atlanta, NOW!! I hate you and you Atlanta-inclined area.

 Alas, the statistic continues: every Saturday since September 9 I have seen a Phantom and either a Ferrari or a Lamborghini in Atlanta. This place is crazy.

Boston is probably good with cars, although by this time of year they're probably being put away. Thanks for the kind words! 👍

Integra Type R
That E63 AMG is gorgeous! And the E55 wagon is very cool. 👍

Thanks - I actually thought of you today; I saw a black ITR, but circumstances prevented me from photographing it. They're one of few non-expensive, non-exotic cars that I still try hard to photograph; even more so than the (rarer, more well-regarded) Buick Grand National. The ITR is just awesome (and Grand Nationals are common Dub cars in Atlanta). :D

Haha, thanks.

Do you have any more info on the E55 wagon? I've never seen one, and it's high on my "list of cars to see." Also, speaking of red Mercedes, have you ever seen a red E55AMG? There's one in my town and it's by far my favorite color on the car. 👍 I think I posted it in this thread before, but here it is again for reference:

(sorry for the incredibly crap picture)

(I know this wasn't directed to me, but anyways...)

Its okay, depends what part of Boston you are in. Poor road design means people hesitate to drive nice stuff around a lot.

I prefer when I go home to the suburbs of Boston and get to see all sorts of classic stuff...'67 Fairlane, 2 Grand Nationals, '65-'66 Buick Wildcat Stage 2, 2 '70 Chargers, similar vintage Challenger, '68 GTX all live in my hometown, and thats off the top of my head. Someone also has a rail dragster but I've never talked to him.
