They just look so much better (almost like an Alfa Romeo SZ) that it is scary Nissan never did anything with it themselves.
Zagato... one of my all time favorite builders! Ugo and Gianni Zagato designed a stunning GT version of the 1900 Superleggera pictured above, and over the years they have made spectacular GTs for Alpha, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari, and more.
BTW: There is a Zagato aficionado who has collected over a hundred photos of different cars built by Zagato:

However, I think it is safe to say their most famous, arguably best, and certainly most sought after car they ever made was the 1960-63 GT version of Aston Martin's DB4. Designed by a youthful Ercole Spada under the guidance of Gianni Zagato, the DB4 GT Zagato is considered by many to be one of the best GT cars ever made.
Unfortunately, only 20 original cars were ever built, and one of those was destroyed. All are in the hands of dedicated collectors, and rarely ever show up at auction. The last one that did was two years ago at the RM Phoenix event and sold for $2,695,000
(original list price was $13,100).
About 15 years ago, Mario Galbiatti hand built six replica DB4 GT Zagato cars which are designated as DB4 GT Zagato Sanction II
(first four built in 1991) & III
(last 2 completed in 2000). The cars were nearly identical to the original, but with a few modern modifications:
(____) = original spec
- Platform chassis based on DB4GT/0181/L with additional strengthening to improve torsional rigidity
- A slightly larger capacity 4.2 litre engine (3.7 liter, 4212cc) developing 352 bhp (314)
- 50DC01/SP Weber carburetors (45DCOE)
- Original front suspension, but with adjustable and thicker anti-roll bar
- Original rear suspension, but relocated and adjustable
- Goodyear Eagle NCT tyres on 15x6 inch rims (16x5)
They sold for about $1,000,000 each.
