Decent day. There's still lots of snow on the roads, but I managed this:

nsx-011107.jpg

January 11, 2007 - Denver, Colo.

Also this:

range_rover_sport-011107.jpg

January 11, 2007 - Denver, Colo.

Sent the latter into BBC's "Carbage" website. I thought it was a worthy candidate.

How bad is the snow? The city decided to stop plowing it and just put it in piles in the middle of streets. I swear. Here's proof:

Crazy.

You guys are going to think I'm such a geek, but I was watching MTV's The Real World yesterday, because this season is set in Denver, my hometown. In one shot, they showed the Real World cast members' cars from the air, to illustrate that they were travelling. They also caught this:

gs.jpg

That little blue car with white stripes is a '96 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. Only 1,000 of these were ever made, and they're considered one of the ultimate and rarest Corvettes. I'm not sure how many are in the Denver area, but I've only ever seen one. It's an incredible incidental find!

Sorry Doug, but you're incorrect. That's just a blue Vette C4 with 2 white stripes.

The Corvette Grand Sports only spotted 1 big white stripe, and 2 red markings on the left front fender (from the driver's perspective).

I know - the red stripes are there, but taking photos from my camera of my television isn't exactly the best way to convey it. You can even kind of see them. I tried to zoom in and get more photos, but the quality is even worse than the posted picture, if you can imagine.

Well, your TV must be very bad at showing quality because I see 2 stripes, with an obvious blue line between them.

So, no offence, but until you can show a better picture of a Corvette GS with 1 white stripe, I won't consider what you saw to be a genuine Grand Sport.

My goodness, you're right! I thought you were just talking about the red stripes.

Why would anyone paint theirs in that scheme, and then not even do it correctly?

I wish that the camera on my phone was better Grrr

Don't worry. The pics are nice simply because they're here. 👍 You missed the DB7 Vantage, which is cooler & rarer, I think, than the Maserat.

Geek, dork, 12-year-old.... ;) I haven't watched that show since season 1. Like, uh, everyone else in the world. Uh, huh....

A week's worth of pictures, sorted from newest to oldest:

Acura TL Type-S 2007

Nice aggressive improvements for Acura, if essentially unchanged from last year. I haven't read any reviews or driven the car, but news of an LSD should improve things mechanically, too.

Mazda Mazdaspeed 6

Still cool, but not quite the STi/Evo worrier it could be. Good thing Mazda didn't market it that way.

Merkur Scorpio

How many Merkurs of any kind exist in the US? Some time ago, I remember seeing something that could have been an XR4Ti; isn't that the same as the Escort Cosworth, or is that a different beast altogether?

Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16

I was actually dozing just 15 seconds before this picture (no, I wasn't the one driving). I had no idea this was there; just spontaneously woke up right then. Could be a rebadge, but I think it's obscure enough that no one would bother. I definitely want one, along with a 1991 M3. One day, one day....

Toyota MR2 SC

Is this an SC or just a base model? All badging was gone, apparently replaced by rust, and I don't know my MR2's. Neat little thing.

BMW 633CSi

Perfect condition for a 25-year-old car. If I'm not mistaken, this is not the M6; that was saved until the 635CSi (also called the M635CSi). I could be wrong, though. It was over 20 years ago.

Decent shots. Not many Merkurs still around, and even less Scorpios - they went '87 to '89 and are the rarer of the two vehicles that Merkur made. The other, the laughably-named XR4Ti, went '85 to '89.

The XR4Ti isn't the same as the Escort Cosworth; it's actually a re-badged version of the Ford Sierra, not the Escort. And they certainly didn't share an engine - the XR4Ti ran the 2.3-liter turbo four of Thunderbird Turbo Coupe fame (among other vehicles, including the rare Mustang SVO, though that model used an intercooler in addition to the turbocharger). The Scorpio was sold with a 140hp 2.9-liter V6, and was the twin of the Ford Scorpio.

A fellow six blocks from me has two Scorpios, although I saw one on the back of a flatbed tow truck two weeks ago. At least one was bought new in 1989.

As for the M6... the model you photographed is indeed not that. However, neither is the 635CSi. It's complicated, but basically here's how it went: the 633CSi wasn't the M6. Neither was the 635CSi. However in Europe, the M version was called the M635CSi (different from the normal 635CSi), whereas in the US that model was called the M6. The European one was slightly more powerful (286hp vs. 256). So in Europe, there was no M6 until the new V-10 powered E63 model, whereas we got one in the states both from 1987 to 1988 and since 2006. Hopefully that explains that.

EDIT: here's a shot of an E24 M6 including the badge. I know where this guy lives and he parks on the street, so I see this car very frequently.

Well harrytuttle this one is for you :)

DB9.jpg

I didn't see it the first time. I might get to go to work at that place and I'm looking forward to it you guys should check it out, here is the LINK, also the car that is next to it is a red Aston Martin convertible but I don't have a picture of it :guilty:

Corvette Gran
Sports are that rare? Wow, Ill probably get flamed for not haveing pictures, but I actually saw a real one in a parking lot last week! I thought 'wow, a GS, like in Gran Turismo pretty cool' but didnt think much of it.

It looked sexy.

Yeah, they're dead rare, and unlike most Corvettes their value is appreciating, so they're not being driven often. They weren't much faster than C4s, only rarer, so most of them are sitting in collections.

I saw something very good today:

gallardo-011207-4.jpg

gallardo-011207-2.jpg

gallardo-011207-5.jpg

Gotta admire this guy's courage - we've had over four feet of snow in the last three weeks including an inch just last night, and yet he's out in his Gallardo SE. At least I think it's an SE; I have a post in on a Lambo forum trying to confirm it (most of the giveaways are hard to spot on a black car, since they're mostly carbon fiber panels and such).

Temporary plates say he bought it yesterday (so no wonder he was out in the snow :D). As he was U-turning, he scraped the under-carriage on a very low curb - gotta be his first supercar. He was flooring it at every chance he got. There was so much road grime on the car I couldn't even see the dealer frame to learn where he got it. Incredible car.

EDIT: This is a Gallardo Nera!!

Introduced at Paris in September; only 185 made for the world and only 60 for the USA. 2007 starts off with a great car!

Whats funny about supercars like the Gallardo and the Ford GT is you don't appreciate how low to the ground they are until you see one in real life and then you realize.....I WANT ONE!!!

This is why I didn't like it when you left, M5. You see the awesomest cars. :D

Doug, you should have your own website for your pics....really.

EDIT: Diablomonkey....they have an '88 M6 there.

I don't want to jinx it, but sometimes I swear they follow me around. I mean come on - a one of 185 Gallardo Nera is crazy enough, but we're sitting on four feet of snow. A road grader just went down my street to clear snow, for God's sake. Who sees a supercar under those circumstances?!

Doug, you should have your own website for your pics....really.

I'm considering it, but it's quite an expense, both in time and money. I'd like to go that route, but I'm not sure I can justify it.

Indeed. You can see from that rear picture that the Gallardo doesn't even come up to the window line of that '99 Pathfinder, and they're not even really that tall.

I keep forgetting about this thread. It's almost like I don't come here as much as I used to. Anyway, over the past year (which feels longer) I've seen a lot of good stuff.

Back in april of this year: I was walking through the town of Red Bank, which is major rich person shopping spot due to all the little shops. As I'm coming back from meeting Kevin Smith the director for the first time, I spot an Aston Martain DB9. I told the guy nice car and he was a prick. God, if you don't want respect from the car world, go back and use your company car.

Late Nov: I was leaving from school here in NJ and as I'm sitting at a red light, I spotted a Rolls Royce Phantom. I tried to catch up and see if it someone famous but the guy in front of me wasn't driving fast enough.

A few weeks later, I was walking to one of my morning classes and spotted a Continal GT sitting where it shouldn't be parked. As I passed the guy I mouth "Nice Car" and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled and waved, I guess most guys with nice cars aren't all jerks.

Last Month: Heading into school, I saw some soccer mom type woman drive a Quardcoupe. Yeah, I could tell by the way she was just trying to stick her nose out into traffic, she didn't know how to drive it. I hope to god that it was her husbans.

DAMN it! That GS was sexy, and I wish I had my camera. Just like I wish I had it when I saw that black on black 850Csi an hour ago!

I have a suspicion that it was fake, though. But the GS wasnt. I mean, it was perfect, it had like an aura around it. It stood out so much, its metallic blue paint was so bright and shiny... and the red stripes... and there were no other cars in that parking lot for like 100 feet around... and it was sunny. I hope I see it agin :(

Right, I remember now. Couldn't remember the Sierra for anything.

So I would assume the few 635CSi's I've seen with ///M badges on the front are simply that: cars with badges?

Unsurprisingly, it didn't make me happy....

Well harrytuttle this one is for you :)

Thanks. :) Sounds like a nice place to work. Good luck with getting a job there.

I have a suspicion that it was fake, though.

If it was fake, then meh. I see regular 8-series models with surprising regularity. If it wasn't fake, then damn. The 850CSi is truly one of the rarest BMWs ever made - rivaling the M1. Less than 500 were manufactured, and a small fraction of that came to the States - no more than 200. I have yet to see one of these monsters. And yes - I check the back of every single 8-series I see to make sure it's not the all-elusive CSi.

Yes - it's a modification I've seen too but it's just that; they're not stock and they're not real M cars.

I'm still reeling from this one - a contender for Car Sighting of the Year '07 and we're not even two weeks into the year!

Thats a 1986 naturally aspirated MR2.

Yeah - surprised I didn't catch that. The (rare) 1st-gen supercharged model has very obvious "supercharged" badges everywhere on it, particularly the decklid. I've only seen a few, including one photo which of course I don't have anymore.

Well it was black with black Lexanis, said 850Csi and looked like one, and had smoked taillights. But it had what looked like Mercedes V12 badges, and who would rice an 850?

But I have seen at least two others in the past years

I know, I own a first gen supercharged mr2. :)

The easiest way to spot the difference besides the badging is the engine lid, the NA's have flat lids with a few small vents, the supercharged models have square shaped raised vents, to allow air to pass through the intercooler.

Definitely possible - guess you'll never know! But if you've seen prior ones then you're not hurting for them, I suppose.

A yellow Lamborghini Gallardo. I forgot my camera and have no proof.;) Also a Smart Brabus coupé

That's cool - and nice sighting on the Grand Cherokee SRT-8; can't be too many of those running around the UK. I know that because there aren't too many running around the States! I saw one last week with the license plate "K33P UP". Needless to say, I couldn't.

Is that in front of a hotel in Buckhead? The Intercontinental or something?

Yep, the Intercontinental, on Peachtree and Georgia 400 about a block east of Piedmont. A fellow with a Phantom lives there and it's always parked outside, although that's a different one from the one in that photo. I've also seen Young Jeezy's green Murcielago Roadster there (and at Lenox Mall just down Peachtree, at Lenox Avenue).
