i saw a white M5. The first one ive seen in a long time. they arent too common around here, i guess. it looked pretty nice.

I miss this thread. More acurately, I miss being outside. Jury duty sucks...except for that one hot court reporter.... Kept me awake during many crappy speeches.

Buncha stuff last week, though. Went over to the Greenwich, CT, Ferrari dealership (well, one of the three). Court recessed early, so I figured what better way to kill a beautiful day than go house-hunting. Ha! Of course, on Wednesday, 2pm, the dealership is open but everyone seems to enjoy a 4-hour lunch. I had my pick of many wonderful exotics to leave my grubby prints and seat pressings on.

360 Mondena, Spider: lots of colors, lots of variations. There was also a black race-equipped Modena, dual fuel-fillers and all. Looks like it's had some time on the track, too. Doors must have been sealed shut....

550 Maranello: buncha colors, mostly manual transmission. Some extrememly comfortable seats.

355 Spider F1: only 355, in bright yellow. Had a few miles on it, too.

456GT: a pair -- one silver, one black -- wedged against the far wall, so I couldn't get into these. I'd imagine they're outshined by the 550's and 360's.

Aston Martin DB7: silver, tan leather, but automatic. To be expected, I guess. Beautiful, powerful, and sure to leave an oil slick in some lucky chap's garage.

Aston Martin Vantage Volante: I don't know the year (mid 1970's?), but it was red, had Florida plates, and was *gorgeous*. I'm guessing it was a dealer's car. Ironically, it looked like a Shelby Mustang...done right...from the outside, at least.

Mercedes SL55 AMG: 2003, in dark silver. Only there briefly, as the owner test drove a used Rolls Royce.

Rolls Royce/Bentley: the other half of the dealership was all Rolls & Bentz. Mostly used, about a dozen in primo condition, none of which I could recognize (not much of a RR/B person).

Porsche 911 996 Turbo: sitting ouside in the repair section. Looked okay, but it was covered in an inch of rainfall, leaves, and other debris. Sitting right next to...

Lamborghini Diablo: red, I think, but there was even more dirt on it. Squirrels could have nested in the engine intake scoops. Sad sight. But, best for last is a...

Jaguar E-Type: burgundy. Covered, off to the side (but outdoors), and under that cover was a truly awesome wax job. Someone loves this car. :)

In the hour or so I was there, only one employee saw me in the showroom, and he paid me no mind (he was busy with the RR test drive). The guys in the shop actually waved to me -- as if I were a paying customer! There I was, dressed in jean shorts, polo t-shirt, and Teva sandals. Granted, I don't have blue hair, but I wasn't "dressed for success". I'm going back to Greenwich, to the main drag (US1), to the other cluster of dealerships, and to the Porsche pad. Gonna see if I can't sneak a test drive of a GT2. 😈

In Westchester County, NY, you get $40 per day. However, my company is nice enough to cover the first week...provided I give up the other days compensated by the state. Still, since I don't take vacation (which I actually consider the past 3 weeks to have been, with the short hours & 4-day week), I'm using last year's vaction & sick time to get full pay. Aren't benefits grand? I should be back on Wednesday, though. :-/

Anyone in the NY-Metro area interesed in trying something fun on Greenwich's main drag?

hooligan, do u really think they will let u test drive a GT2. i think they only let serious buyers test drive. u probably have to prove to them that u can afford one and are interested in buying.

No, but after not getting kicked out of the Ferrari dealership, I might give it a shot. I mean, I was there for an hour, doing whatever I wanted to anything that wasn't locked. Never talked to anyone, never said who I was, didn't even drive up...and then they waved 'hi' to me!

Okay, so my chances of a test drive for the GT2 are low, but a drive in *some* Porsche is possible. The BMW dealership is next...for the Mini! :D

Had a friend in college who regularly went and test drove sports cars, even though he couldn't afford them. I suppose there are a few who do this, and salesmen might suspect it, but if you were loaded and really ready to buy one of these things, would you want a salesman asking for some type of proof he should treat you like a customer? I wouldn't. I doubt they'll put people into their most expensive cars without some check, though.

They might ask for an ID and do a quick check on you, at least after you leave the dealership.

Anyway, I saw a Geo Metro today with a Mercedes star on the hood. Had a good laugh. I think by the look of the car itself, the owner intended it as a joke (unlike most people who do the lux badging thing)

Am I the only one who likes this thread? Man, I leave for a few weeks and it just goes to waste. ;)

Saleen S281 Convertible: some red that I've never seen on a Mustang before. I've only seen one other Saleen, years ago, and then from a distance. This was parked, with the top down, but I was late heading out to a client; no time to get a better look.

Ferrari 355 Spyder: rosso red, of course. Just cruising around Pound Ridge. After last month's trip to the Greenwich Ferrari dealership, I wasn't too worried about getting a good look.

Porsche 911/993 Turbo S: I needed a better look at this one, though. Flying by opposite me on the Merritt Parkway. I had to look it up on the web, having only seen what I thought said "turbo3" on the back. What a lovely, bleached-yellow, wonderfully monstrously powerful peice of German engineering.

Ford Mustang GT350: not too sure on the color, really, as it was rusting out in some cheap garage. I'd been by this place before; maybe it's a junker the owner plans on working back into shape...I hope.

Chevy Corvette: not sure about this one. It was probably of 1990 vintage, Crayola yellow, and had a rather chunky bodykit. I was guessing a Lingenfelter setup, but on the second pass, I confirmed that there were indeed no markings of any kind save for the Corvette double flag on the hood.

I love this thread. (Did I mention that?) Car watching is fun. :sonar:

Ford 1968 Mustang GT Fastback: red, with a white trim around the door scoop. Whooph. Just awesome. Couldn't tell it was a GT, though, until I saw the neat little
G
T
in Skyline GT-R print on the fuel cap. Subtle quad tailpipes.... Yeah, either this or a GT500 would be my muscle car of choice, since I can't afford a Barracuda.

Saleen S281: same red one from yesterday (actually, two days ago), but I saw it in a parking lot. I actually stopped, got out, and took a good long look around. Didn't match the S281 on Saleen's website. Had twin, louvered, center exhausts; different, more agressive front & side bodykit; hard top tonneau (covering the lowered convertible top); and serving-plate-sized Brembos under what looked like 20" Saleen alloys. Nice. Gaudy, but still nice. ;)

Corvettes are pretty common around where I live. I saw a blue S2000 with ghost flames. I also saw a red Boxter and a yellow 911. I saw a black supra and a red G500 on I-95 (highway). The highlight of today was a Bluish Purple prowler. Nothing special though.

i saw a Corvette Stingray, while getting the oil changed in my sis' car. it was silver, and looked N I C E !

i also saw a red stingray for sale. the front end was smashed up pretty good.

mx-5 turbo....i didnt know the ones in the USA were turbos.

Yeah, I've seen an 80's Stingray (red) driving around town before. You wouldn't expect to see a stingray much in Australia. I've seen it about 2-3 times.

Hooligan has interesting days spotting autos, but I think my days are just as interesting (I wish)....

Ford F-150: Black, parked in my lot at work. It was the short-bed version. "STX" was written on the side, I think. It could have said "4x4." Not sure.

Chevrolet Lumina: Brace yourselves - it was the sedan version. White-wall tyres, dark green. Pretty worn and torn, if you will. I think it had Celebrity wheels (hubcaps?).

Acura MDX: Yes, yes, I'm being serious. It was silver, and I saw it. I can't wait to see more. It had a sticker mounted (not stuck) to its rear glass. It was tinted, so I couldn't see what it said. :(

:P - Actually in the last few days I have seen some pretty cool ones; a Bentley convertible parked at a gas station (its 'natural habitat'), a Ferrari 348, and today some new Porsche, but I have no idea what Porsches are called or numbered, so I really can't tell a GT2 apart from a 911 C4.

I'll say! Saw a yellow Diablo merge onto the highway just ahead of me and could only see it for about 1 minute after that. Yesterday I was passed by a Countach doing about 110!! Man, that thing was loud!

You Americans are lucky to see all these cars. I've seen two Lamborghini's in my entire life. A countach on the highway and the new Murcialago behind glass at a car dealer. The only one in Australia!

Westchester County, NY, is one of the top 5 richest areas in the world. It's high population also requires a high number of cars. BTW, Greenwich, CT, is another place I travel to quite often; probably #2 or #3 on the list. I also don't work in an office. I'm actually doing the installs -- the fun stuff -- so I get out a lot. :)

Blasphemer! And you call yourself a patron of the arts....

 - Yeah, I know. I suck. :P

Actually, today I saw an ML55. I always feel insignificant next to an ML55 especially when in the ML430. I feel like everyone is laughing at me ("You thought you were hot stuff..."). <--- Even that guy.

I don't know. I don't see the utility of the ML55. The engine seems to just overpower the rest of the car. From what I hear, it drives more like a truck, rather than the smoother ride of the 320/430. Goes fast in a straight line, though....

I think it's impractical as well - I'm rather glad no one decided to follow Mercedes AMG into the quick-SUV business (e.g. BMW X5M).

It must have been classic car day somwhere.

  • Corvette StingRay
  • '52 Corvette
  • Tons of 64 Mustangs
  • A lot of old cars I cant identify
  • BMW M3 Convertible (:P)

That was sarcasm, right? ;) For the record, there is [and was]:

BMW X5 4.6is
Chevrolet SSR (maybe)
Dodge/Shelby Durango (limited)
GMC Typhoon
Infiniti FX45 (another maybe)
Lamborghini LM002
Mercedes Benz G55 ("Can you say 'Gelaendewagen' boys and girls?" arblfargtz "I knew you could.")
Porsche Cayenne S & Turbo

Then there's a bunch of hot mini-SUV's, but they seem to be a bit more practical (given that they're car-based). The ML55 may be the headliner (for now), but it's not alone in that world...unfortunately.

Ahh. The LM002. I like a V12 SUV. ;)

Been busy this week, so the whole week at once then.

Ferrari 360 Spyder: in the most awesome blue, like a super-pale turquoise. Beautiful

Ferrari Testarossa: rosso red, of course; not 100% sure if it was a Testarossa, but it sure looked it. And moved like it. As in fast.

Jaguar S-Type R: plain black; first one I've seen here, but hopefully not the last. Maybe it will get BMW to move along faster with their new M5.

Plymouth Superbee: lime green; no joke. I didn't even know this existed. I thought it was some play on "Superbird". Couldn't quite see the engine notation, but it looked like "368". I'm guessing some way-after-market work.

Porsche 996/911 Turbo: silver, of course. New client/friend of mine; hung out, worked on his theater, bought a Faroudja scaler. Rich friends are more fun. I sat in the driver's seat, but we didn't go anywhere. Didn't even turn on the engine. He had lot's of factory customising: door sills, steering wheel, entire center console...oh, and something called the "X50" package. ;)

Never seen one in person before... and it wasn't today, it was earlier this week. I was driving back home from Savannah GA in I-95 and I spied a yellow Ferrari Testerossa.

Add this to my list of frequently spotted cars:

S2000 ~ tons of them in southwest South Carolina
Audi TT ~ Savannah GA has at least two that I've seen on the road there.
Viper RT/10 Red ~ Saw one in a parking lot in Charleston SC.
Viper (unknown) Red ~ There's one parked at a house about 14 miles north of my house.
Ferrari 360 ~ I think this is what it was... Charlotte NC parking lot parked right next to a '51 Chevy which was cool.
One time I saw a for real DeLorean too but I forget where it was.
I stopped at a gas station on I-95 near Darlington once and was gassing up with Joe Amatto (sp?) who was on his way to Florida for some drag event. He had a Mustang on a trailer.

I'm sure there's more but I can't remember everything all at once right?

Still looking for any kind of Lotus!

OK, yesterday I drove about 700 miles across Britain, and had a pretty good car day. Saw a bunch of Elises, (well, I was in Norwich!), an Aston DB7 Volante (with the roof up in the blazing sun: D'oh!), a Ferrari 550, and, wait for it... a Lambo Murcielago.

I have to say that the Lambo is just awesome in real life. couldn't wait to see it, and now I have! I followed it in a 90mph traffic queue for about 10 miles, and it was fantastic. Sounded like it was idling! I was driving a Fiat Stilo, and the car in front of the Lambo was a Passat saloon. The Lambo was so low that I could see the Passat's boot lid over the top of it!

And the shape is quite amazing. I really really want one!
