Diesel Cars in GT5?

I hope they bring in 123d 3-door hatch instead..

And the Audis. A3/A4 2.0 TDI is far better than the petrol 1.8T :yuck:

Please note I'm still not a diesel fan... it's just that turbo diesel makes those Audis and other cars way more fun than the boring NA petrol equivalent.

If turbos were still allowed (or not severely handicapped) in motor racing, they would kick some serious ass. Ah those F1 turbo times... what insane power machines :)

Well... yes and no. Audi and Peugeot diesels rule at LeMans because the governing body has yet to write an acceptable rule change to meter their dominance there (for those who don't know... diesels get a huge displacement advantage (+2 liters or thereabouts), restrictor advantage (around 40% bigger, I believe) and technology advantage (variable geometry turbos... gasoline engines are not allowed these clever little bits of kit at LeMans) over their gasoline counterparts. These rules were written back when diesels were complete dreck... and now they don't hold up.

In other series, they do well. They still have the same unfair advantage (forced induction... most gasoline touring cars are naturally aspirated) in touring cars, but those series are a little better balanced... and they do/did well at Paris/Dakar and in enduros of a more general nature (BMW 120d).

I love caning turbodiesels. The giddy wave of torque... the need for three or four shifts to get to just 60-80 mph... ( )... but they can't compare to the aural and visceral drama of revving the nuts off of a gasoline engine that sees speeds in excess of 7000-8000 rpm. Horses for courses, though. Turbodiesels are more fun in daily traffic, but for those rare moments you have a clear road in front of you, you'll want a gasser.
