Wow, First impressions after a couple of hours (base Game PC) are very positive. The audio, lighting and graphics (rays/bloom etc) are nice and detailed. Car textures, interiors are nice and clear. I have only played on controller but the game is very well optimized for FPS and graphics 4K.

The new menus look good, nice intros to the Championships. New tracks have plenty of options with time of day etc. So far a nice improvement over Dirt Rally 1 with no problems with getting online so far (day one Patch installed).

Having seen more videos/articles regarding the DLC I now understand all the work involved building the new tracks and deformations so I understand their decision to put all the new tracks in the base game. So I may pick and choose the DLC on Steam.

Rally X - I only played on my favourite (Hell) tracks in the VW and it was great. Handling seemed spot on (controller). Loved it.

Added to my watchlist @PJTierney .

Here's another from me, much cleaner than that awful Polo run last night. Fiesta R5 in Michigan, I think this combo has given me a love for this New England rally, lots and lots of fun. Xbox one gamepad. At the time of recording this run was top 5 on the Xbox time trial leaderboards for this stage.

So.. someone who had played the game on ps4 fat? I note that the game has great graphics, but most of people are posting videos running on PC. I read some comments, telling that on ps4 graphics are worst than dirt 4 (on same platform).

They are dreadfully blurry for me too. I even reinstalled DiRT 4 to compare.

Turn off motion blur in advanced graphics settings. Hey presto, much better.

You might also try to disable TAA. It's a very cheap and effective AA but it's also makes everything somewhat blurry.

I'm not convinced the graphics are. They're extremely blurry at times.

The Xbox One X version has the option to turn 4K mode off. When you do, it is quite blurry and the draw distance takes a noticeable hit. I imagine this is what it is like for standard consoles?

I don't think looks too bad for a 1080p image (I barely notice jaggies with 4K mode off), but then again supersampling may be helping the image look better on the One X.

PS4's only graphics setting is the screen brightness, sadly.

In other news, I am happy to receive 1 million cr as a gift from Codemasters. Sadly, my game is crashing occasionally (playing on base PS4) after completing a daily community event. Seems as though when this occurs that the event is still registering as complete, but it's still an annoyance. I have hopes the glitches will be patched out in time.

After reading your post I now understand why we get two tarmac dlc countries out of the three.., because of the road deformation thing, which also shouldn't cause them much of a headache to implement on Sweeden, the only loose surface rally available for DLC.

Oh well codies

Come on, one and a half :D

We may get the others yet .Who knows.

No way. Last DLC is rallycross that's guaranteed.

I'm trying the game right now as I post. Liking the physics so far (controller). Not yet tried with t300, which I've heard there's new firmware exclusive to dirt rally 2 ffb issues, be advised everyone but ofd course first check if that true

Let us know if there is a firmware update plz. Btw, I really liked the game with the controller, then I hooked up my t300 and loved it.

Edit" I know I could just google it but your already doing that right? lol. :D

We also don't know it's the last DLC. There's 12 slots for rallies in custom championship, pacenotes have been recorded for 12 rallies. Never say never.

Tried that too. Didn't make a visible difference. Disabling motion blur was the big one.

[Note: This is on a PC with AMD graphics. Might be a difference between NVidia and AMD since very few people are moaning about blurriness]

I'm on an Nvidia card but I turn Motion Blur off as soon as I load a game for the first time as I can't stand it. So no idea how it looked with it on. If I remember tonight I'll turn it back on and see what it looks like.

I have pressed pause on my RX adventures for the moment.

The Masters stage contains eight championship rounds. Five of which were set to take place on a wet track. Five out of eight. So, just to give Codies the benefit of the doubt, I started the first round at Holjes to beautiful sunshine, but a wet track. Guess what happened?

Yup. Drove my arse off for four laps (with my Polo on engine level 4/6), won my heat, best AI times were five seconds quicker than mine. Tried the next heat, did a quicker (~1s) time, still five seconds off the pace of the leaders.

I got fed up and went into time trial mode, did a Top 10 global time straight out of the gates with a maxed out 6/6 Polo, improved that by a good margin for a Top 5 time. Adjusting for the start and joker laps, that would still not be enough to beat the quickest times the AI set. It’s ridiculous. There’s hard, and then there’s just plain unrealistic. It’s the same story for every track I’ve driven on in the wet so far, once the AI gets ahead of you, it’s game over, and once you get ahead, they drop back by an equally ridiculous margin. And never mind the simulated times…

End result was that I aborted the championship, started anew and lo and behold, got SIX races in the wet. Thank you, but no thank you. I’ll keep busy with Clubman rallies for the moment…

I find the simulated times frustrating as well. It doesn’t make sense that you can win every single heat (including the first) and finish the qualifying with the 12th best time overall. Sure, it could happen, but it’s not realistic.
I don’t mind the pulling away from the competition that much, as in WRX and ARX the action is usually limited to the first 2 laps, and as long as the leader doesn’t mess up, the next few laps are predictable. So that part seems not as unrealistic.
Rain all the time is frustrating as well.

I've deleted it for the time being to make room for some other stuff I want to look at - in it's current state it's not worth the space on my PS4 HD.

I'll probably give it another look in a few months time when some of the kinks have been ironed out.

But it also lets you mix RX and rallies together. Custom championship seems a bit overkill for me, the way I can change car classes between events and even mix the two formats up. But hey, the end result is the same.

You ever played DR1?, if you find DR2 AI times unrealistic, you should go try dr1 specially on Greece. On DR1 you take corners around the track, while the AI either cuts through the stage on straight line or straight away flies above it. The only way to win Masters difficulty in this game was achieving second and third positions in all ralies (first in some rally like Germany), for then pray for the AI car that was scoring a global first position screwed it later on the championship, which miraculously is what always happened.

Yeah I have already had this on a couple of stages at Argentina and New Zealand. No matter how fast you do the stage, specially the short ones, AI wins and if you don't do it perfect by a beating.

This was ridiculous on DR1. There I was thinking it would be getting looked into, but oh boy the innocence. Here we go again with the unrealistically artificial AI times on some particular stages, and always always depending on your performance and position through the current rally you're currently disputing.

In which case we need 14 slots :D

Went shopping hoping that I could find a copy of the game but I couldn't :(

Gonna wait until Saturday, I wanna play it :banghead:

Got the PS4 version so I can have some leaderboard battles with a mate, but on my standard PS4 the graphics are incredibly blurry. Almost looks cell-shaded.

Massive pity - should have gone for the Xbox One X version...

Maybe Codies can optimise and improve it in a patch?
