Do we really need Damage?

Personally - I prefer "Racing" over hotlapping... probably because it suits my style of driving more... I always struggled to get the golds on 'lap time' licence tests!

i have been thinking a lot about damage, but one thing always comes to my mind. Tyres, and tyre modeling is by far more important then damage, cause if we would have day/night cycles and weather effects, tyres need to be remodeled or recoded so that they react properly on temp, rain etc.
Because right know tyres are modeled quiet simple (correct me if i am wrong). we have n1,s1,r1 models, and they only have grip level. But grip is changing throughout race, and weather, moisture, temperature etc. So this is where my big concern is.

Damage should be optional (both mechanical and visual). We don't need to see car de-integrating into little pieces, but some parts should fall of (rear wing, spoilers, front spoilers etc.) this was a bit off topic. :-)

I think some people need to realise that this is still a video game and some of the requests on this thread would not make good gameplay.

For example paying for repairs. Who on earth would be happy having to pay for repairs if some idiot online completely smashes your car up?

They will smash their ride too. In fact, I won't be surprised if whole GT mode will have possibility to be played online against other GT mode players and not against poor AI. Licenses, good ability to drive in professional mode, penalties and damage will have great importance and you will see those online idiots only during first few rounds then.

But we'll see. The fact is, we know nothing. PD is now maybe more classified than whole CIA :)

Apologies because I must admit I don't post here on a daily basis so I might of missed these competitions.
I am going to take a wild guess and say they are in this forum:
On-Line Racing
Which includes sub forums for:
Official GTP Competitions
Spot Races and Lap Time Comparisons
Race Series
Specialized OLR Forums

Doing a quick scan of your posting history I don't see you having stepped outside of the Gran Turismo forum, thus why you missed these competitions. Fell free to join them, they will be happy to have you.

If that happens it had better be optional. I have said it many times in the past, but any game that skimps on the singleplayer experience and defends that with "But the multiplayer is awesome" immediately gets passed over by me.

Now, if they had their usual GT Mode but then had an online career mode where you worked your way up through different racing series in a ranking type system then I will be very, very interested.

Co-operative gameplay in GT-mode would be nice and could reduce the load on PS3 as one PS3 has to only calculate a portion of AI cars.

That wouldnt happen, plus the fact GT won't harness all the PS3s power i'm sure it woulnt need to reduce the load.

can't envisage any type of online single player, there maybe some kind of online career like FK stated which would be intresting to see how they pull it off

Slightly off topic, but please read on.

Online Co-operative game play is one of the best game modes there is. Especially if you can do it an a endurance race. So how does damage get into this?

This is my list of things I want to have in any online GT5 race:

Co-op with optional AI (B-spec mode)

A driver controlled (PSP or PS3) Crewchief during the race(One or more players that wants to race as manager and team boss) for the pitstops and race strategy. When you don't race the car but are waiting for the next stint or just want to manage the team (B-spec but with real drivers)

Day to night cycle.

Damage with the same sort of level as the old NR2003 and option to tow back the car for extensive repairs.

Weather

Dedicated servers running on Linux based computers so that anyone can if they like have a server for the races.

All things customizable and optional.

That way we can have 16 teams/cars on the grid with up to 80 drivers in the race. (At least 2 per car)
