Does anyone feel like GT5 desperately needs to add cars to stay competitve?

They spent 6 years working on physics and optimizational code so that we could have a great looking game with decent frame rates with 16 cars on the track. I love how people seem to think PD was sitting around doing nothing for 6 years because the feature they want wasn't implemented. Software development is a time consuming process.

You just take my words off of my mouth chuyler1
And, I know that it would be better if we do have more tracks, like Spa or something like that (or El Capitan from the TGS' Video for example) but it takes time...
And I know that Kaz is working.

A big hug.

Eager Snake.

If all cars were premium, then yes it would have enough cars.. for the moment...
But it doesn't...
If you drive cockpit, you will discover that there really are not very many cars in this game at all... like 3 premium class C, and maybe 4 premium Touring cars that all suck...

I think the best solution is to keep all the cars just in case and focus on getting worthwhile cars in the game, and not another premium race version of the Nissan GT-R, again. In simple terms they should should focus on quality and not quantity (GT5P is a bit extreme though with it's very little amount of cars).

I feel like there's some glaring omissions that just make you go wtf was PD thinking?

Examples:

- VW Bus, Kuebelwagen and Schwimmwagen are premium, along with cappucinnos, but the Veyron and Lambo countach are standard
- No Diablos at all.
- Where's the Ferrari 360? F50? Better yet where's the FXX? The FXX would have required little modification in terms of modeling from the Enzo
- Where's the classic Ferraris? The 250 testa rossa, the daytona, 250 california?
- BMW E30 M3? You have the Murc Evo II in there, why not throw in its biggest competitor at the time?
- You obviously have the NASCAR license, why only throw in a couple of cars? It's not like they're any different. All you have to do is swap textures and voila
- More DTM/GT3/GT2 european cars. You have so so many GT500 cars but very few (premium) GT3 or DTM cars.

I remember reading somewhere that creating a car for GT5 takes about 6 months. PD has 140+ employees. Assuming half of them are modelers, then we should have had AT LEAST 50 more premiums added already.

I know they'll add more premiums, probably soon, but what I'm afraid of is it won't be cars that we want, or cars that are brand new like the F10 M5 or BMW 1M. They'll probably add in more premium miatas and skylines and evos and japanese cars that are 10 years old

They just need to update a good chunk of standard cars to premium, more in-depth customization, a few upgrades in the tuning department (ECU tuning and turbo tuning for example) and a handful of tracks. And if people say "Well I want this car premium!" and someone else goes "No way, this car needs to be premium!" all PD would have to do is take a poll for cars and tracks to upgrade. If it was only that simple though......

In the GT5 credits, 49 people involved in car modeling are mentioned.

There are too many Japanese cars in the game. Also, there is obviously an excess of variations of certain cars. That being said, I've never found a lack of cars to be a downside of gt5.

I'll be frank about this (and there is no offense intended):

None of the contents of this post show that you have any idea what you are talking about.

well it's been ~9 months since release..that still gives us 40+ new premiums, even with a 3 month vacation
However, if we take into account 4 effective years of development time, according to the same calculation we should have had 49*4*2 = 392 unique premium cars (because different liveries or with minimal changes/variations wouldn't take additional 6 months to model) in GT5.

I would think that those time frames assume they had all the licenses from the very beginning, which I do not think is true.

I don't think a licence is needed to start modeling in-studio cars that eventually will be included; it is for using them commercially in the game.

that's true. I was just basing on what Kaz himself said repeatedly over numerous interviews.

@Toronado why do I have no idea what I'm talking about?

The example that requires the shortest explanation:

That's not remotely accurate.

That's a good point, It would be cool if they have some cars done already according to your point. Then the game being out for sometime I'm hoping they got some more cars done. With GT5 needing to add more cars subject, I think the list is fine. Like other member I would like to see the standards slowly become premium. I still enjoy the standards from a driving stand point, but the premiums are the ultimate. 👍

Forza 4 lost their Porsche license because of EA which for me stands for a different word. Everyone wants more cars in GT5, but it's still one of the best games I have played in years. Also some of you may not know this but we got Ferrari in Gran Turismo thanks to the company behind Forza because they had exclusive rights. EA could take a page from their book.

can you then please tell me the NASCAR Sprint Cup chassis specs? Engines are limited, weight is limited, fuel tank is limited, body is the new CoT chassis...

so where do I have no idea what I'm talking about?

Interiors are not the same thing for each car. A large amount of NASCAR Sprint cars are sponsored in whole or in part by booze companies. PD has to get permission/licences from all of the sponsors for the cars they would model.

It isn't just "take Fusion (or Camry or Impala) polygonal mesh and crank out a bunch of textures."

they have the nascar license which means they have the license to all the cars that currently run in the nascar series.

NASCAR doesn't have the right to give away the license for the brands that happen to be on the cars in the series. In order to put those cars in the game, PD needs the license from both NASCAR and those brands featured on the cars.

Let's see....there are 2 major beer companies in America. Miller and Anheuser Busch....Shouldn't be too hard to get those license. And for liquer you got Jack Daniels and....well.....Jack Daniels.... :) But if PD did get license to all these diffrent companies and then just let us put whatever sponsors we want on whatever car we want. Then we could make our own NASCARS!! yeeeeeehaaaaww!!!!! :)

And then Sony gets slapped with a massive lawsuit and GT5 gets pulled from store shelves.

I mentioned booze specifically separate from other companies PD would need to licence for a reason. If PD wanted to include those cars, they would need to make up a livery from scratch.

I hope you are kidding because if your not please shoot yourself.

So if someone likes something you obviously don't they should shoot themselves?
That's a very constructive way of reasoning....and for the record, I agree with more vans or minivans.
In fact, I would even love if they added big trucks for that matter but then I'm openminded to these things as the GT formula isn't set in stone for me.
Oh, and sorry, I don't own a gun so I'll still be around some time.

This post just proves you can't satisfy everyone all the time.

More Cars! Fewer Cars! Fewer Duplicate Cars! More Premium! More Tracks! etc...

These discussion (arguments) are completely futile; there are many kinds of gamers playing GT5. Some are happy with the game as it is, others have differing opinions on how the game should be changed and what cars/tracks should be added/removed. I think PD did a pretty good job releasing a game that caters to a variety of users (young/old, casual/hardcore) and that these users all spread out all over the world.

I have to admit that the amount of seemingly repetitive cars like skylines, miatas, civics, and such is a little annoying. However, Kaz specifically addressed this issue in a tweet or interview (search through the stories on GTP's homepage), referencing the fact that when the developers were growing up, there were many slightly different models of the same car, and that the subtle differences between these cars heavily influenced the car culture in Japan.

Now to shoot myself in the foot and flush any possible credibility I may have gained with my points:

I would really love to see some Koenigseggs in the game. :guilty:

Even more reason why blank cars and a real paint system would have been better that the ridiculous chips.

They must include cars like forza, actual cars like we see on the streets, i dont see 100 versions of the miata. i want to drive vauxhall VXR, new audis, new mercedes, bmw m, like the m6, new citroens ds, new seats, new fords new chevis!!. The big part of the 1000 cars are very old!!!!
i dont want to drive the vauxhall vectra, i want insignia. i want the actual corsa, not one from '04
the Astra!! the abarths!!
ooohhhhh im altering, i dont want that shi*y. cars
