I am frustrated on challenges not just because I can't beat the fastest time, but because I can't even beat my own ghost!

On the third or fourth attempt, I had a flawless drive to beat #1 in a Lykan point-to-point challenge, only running behind by .01 of a second. Sort of a "Fujiwara zone" but only happens at this one time.

After that I couldn't overtake my own ghost, and after few tries, gave up.

I've deduced that there are two types of people in DC's time trial events.
Those who have the natural talent of beating the time on the first or second try, and those who practice and learn their mistakes, THEN beats the time.

And me who just likes time trial events even though I'm forever multiple seconds behind the fastest drivers. After 12+ years of loving racing games, from sims (with assorted Logitech wheels) to arcade racers.
Last night I reached new depths of embarrassment by being 12+ seconds slower than the top time in some wet weather time trial community challenge :).

Seconded. When I got PCARS, I thought that I would probably never touch Driveclub again. I could never have been more wrong.
Do you have a wheel? i don't like how PCARS feels with the DS4. i've tried many setups and none works for me.

There was another remix in there? Of what song? I only heard Koven's remix of "Be Here Now."

But yeah, check the credits in the options menu.
There's definitely a guitar-electro remix in there. Heard it the other day.

To the people who get all the stars - or even just a large percentage of them - are you naturally gifted with incredible racing skills, or do you try, try and try again on many events before you get all the stars?

After a few months of mostly doing time trials and some occasional custom races I got started on the tours again last night. I believe Startline is the new beginner tour (or did I get the name mixed up with the original beginner tour)? After the first two races in the final event I had one star, and eventually ended up with just 4/9 stars.
I'm always a middle of the pack racer at best (that's usually also around where I end up in DriveClub challenges) but I was still surprised to see that this beginner tour used AI in the last races that appeared to be set to pro level (since I fairly comfortably beat semi-pro in custom races).

The XP rewards for doing tours were higher than I remembered though (even disregarding the double XP bonuses this weekend), so I'll definitely be doing some more of them. Looks like I got some severe ass kickings coming my way though.

I think it's a bit of both. Some are naturally very good, others (like me) are just dogged. The reward for pushing is worth it though, as these tracks and cars all have such different characters under the varied conditions that any and all practice is good.

Startline Tour was a freebie added just before the PS+ got released, a sort of teaser for those who didn't have any DLC. They are for the most part events pulled from the various DLC tour packs, so can be quite difficult in themselves, especially if from the later ones. That's why the pro-level AI can been found in some.

Keep at it, try new approaches in the way you tackle a race that is giving you problems. You may have to get a little rough with them on occasion to get all three stars, as the AI are on a dynamic interaction type of setup, so no one attempts of a race will be the same as the others, purely because the AI will interact according to each other and you. Also, try different cars, the fastest isn't always the best if the track doesn't suit it - a case in point being the Nissan GT-R '15 - if the track gets very wet, it will lose to the Corvette (I think it's that one) even if it has superior acceleration and dry grip levels.

I'm not talented in regard to challenges etc but when it comes to in-game challenges I seem to 'zone' in. I didn't have any trouble getting to level 75 but struggle to finish in the top 100 in most challenges players set.

The 488 GTB is up on the EU store. Along with the Renault R.S. 01 at less than half the price of what they charged for the LaFerrari.

They also have double XP booster packs now, valid for a certain amount of events (50 for the biggest). I'm gonna try buying the smallest (valid for 10 events) just out of curiosity to see how it will be applied - like eg. counting as one use regardless of whether I do a 1 lap or a 20 lap race or time trial.

I've rediscovered Driveclub because I thought that Project Cars was getting a bit boring. The main reason for this is due to the fact that I want to get to level 66 and unlock the Renault R.S 01. But because you can buy it now, the purpose is defeated:sly: Or is it? No, probably not:lol:

Initial 488 GTB impressions after some time trials on BHR 03.

My lap times were 2-3 seconds slower than both the 458 Speciale and the 458 Italia (but I actually beat my Speciale time at the end with the regular 458, so obviously I'm not consistent enough to say anything conclusive).

Sounds fantastic, to my ears much better than the 458 models, which I've always found among the blander sounding super cars in the game.

Significantly more twitchy handling than the 458 models. Which accounts for my slower lap times despite a top speed 15 km higher on on the main straight in the 488.

As far as the double XP pack goes, it works exactly - bonus icons and all - like what we saw on the limited selection of cars in the weekend, plus a counter that shows how many double XP events you have left.
Obviously a test run this past weekend. Or more cynically, a free sample to get people hooked on double numbers :).

I bought it. Seemed worth the €1.50 compared to potentially having to wait a few more months (I'm level 46). Going to try it out now.

Edit: Feels and sounds like a proper race car. I like it.

I drove the Ferrari 488 and the Renault around Oliver's landing like always and the Ferrari was slower then the mclaren 12c but faster then the 458 speciale. When you drive normally it feels like a normal Ferrari but when you drive it like a manic, it would understeer in to a wall. So it is not as fun as the normal 458 but it is way faster. The Renault rs 01 feels like the twin run concept but on steroids. It takes a while to get used to but when you do, you would set a really fast time. The only problem about this car is the understeer.

Had a go in the 488, haven't tried the 458 so can't compare but I like it.

Also loving, oddly, the Bentley and the Motorstorm buggy.
