Driveclub

me and my brother picked up a PSVR today and I gave driveclub a go using my Thrustmaster wheel. my first thoughts are similar to others.... extremely blurry and was one of only 3 games out of all the demos and the PS worlds to make me sick. when I would go around turns using the wheel and move my head it would make me feel car sick. only other games I felt like that on was the street luge game ( mostly because you steer with your head) and then walking around in some as the lie game.

I had always dreamed of playing a racing game in VR using a wheel set up but I could barely make it through a race without feeling nauseous

a little off topic but I would pick of REZ infinite over about any other VR game on the demo. I couldnt see myself buying driveclub because the sense of motion along with the blurriness is a recipe for throwing up

I agree with the graphical downgrade but on the other hand this is as close as the real thing. Great experience!
Sounds weird but to look around in and outside the car is like your going to a car dealer before choosing your new car.

Gladly so far no nauseous for me. Also flew in a space ship in EVE Valkyrie. If Driveclub VR makes you feel sick then I recommend the vomit bags within reach before you fire up Scavanger Odyssee or EVE Valkyrie.

Driveclub VR is the first in a row of car race games/sims for PS4. Imagine F1 2017 and you can race as Kimi and our Max is in front of you on the grid ;)
Now I am even more curious about GT Sport with VR support.

But for now Driveclub VR is the only alternative and I will have a lot of fun with this 'arcadish' racing game.

I tested the Driveclub VR yesterday. No nauseous for me. I knew about the graphical downgrade, but it didn't bother me because it is good enough and I'm looking the road/mirrors anyway.

I have to say, that I was surprised by the feeling when you are sitting in the cockpit at the first time - how real everything feel. I think "The real driving simulator" just got the new meaning for me. :)

and after your race you have to see the replay and then in car look over your shoulder to the back of your car. so real!

I found this video that PSGD retweeted- Is this anyone from here? It looks like fun being the passenger on the replay, what a cool idea so you can look around while you sit there and view your lap..I don't think the graphics look too bad and I am tempted to at least try one now if I can when they become available in the local shops.

Don't let any videos fool you, even that looks a bit better than the VR display, which is the worst part of the experience.

It's just like how Sony smartly used up scaled images to show us 'Driveclub VR' which didn't look anything like the real game.

Totally my opinion of course. 👍

I have the similar kind of video in YouTube (private) and it looks the same in YouTube than my VR display. At least I don't see any downgrade on VR display.

EDIT: ...and I'm not writing about the original Driveclub. Everybody can see the downgrade from original to VR.

Have you considered that the reason the promotional material looks better is because the screen you're viewing it on isn't a few centimeters from your eyes?

And? That makes it all fine. I'm glad those still images aren't representative of the full experience. Makes total sense.

They should be advertising it as it looks.

I decided to play DriveClub again yesterday. No, I don't have VR and I don't plan on getting it, but I wanted to revisit the game for my own enjoyment. I think I forgot just how much fun the game is. Still looks brilliant, even after 2 years since it's release. Sony were really really stupid by closing Evolution Studios - however, I can't wait for the new tracks from the VR version to drop on the standard game. It will amuse me for hours.

It's an incredible game. My favourite PS4 game or up there at least.

That is of course the problem. Can they truly show how it looks? A screenshot from DC is already better than how the game looks and with DCVR it's impossible to show how the game will look whist wearing a VR headset represented as a screen shot.

I mean, fair's fair.

Unfortunately they can't. Two lenses make 3D effect. I think that's why they don't use one screen like mobile phone companies do. (they use mobile phones screen to show VR)

Same issue is with PS4 Pro. They can't advertise HDR properly, because it require an HDR TV - which most of the people don't have.

That's why Sony is forced to keep selling people in the shopping malls, that consumers can test the hardware/software there. So they know what they are buying.

This is my guess - I think 3D effect combined to the speed and the movements makes some people nauseous. People are unique, brains work differently etc. I didn't get the nauseous feeling - but it was odd when you first time hit "the pedal to the metal" and start to move. After the first lap I was racing fully. Now I have played several hours and no nauseous feeling for me. I love the realism it brings.

I highly recommend people to go shopping mall to test this rig, before they are buying it.

Whilst this is a fair enough argument in some respects, it isn't really. Digital Spy's screenshots were taken at the resolution as it appears to the viewer and placed in their article.

Sony also sent their gameplay screenshots(?) in a 4K resolution.

There are ways they could show how it actually looks if they try. It's never stopped Nintendo showing off the 3DS graphics and I don't see why it would stop Sony.

3DS is slightly different in the sense that screenshots look worse than the actual thing due to the low resolution and sharp screen.

That is definitely a sensible idea. Unfortunately for us, very few places seem to be set up for demos in the UK and my store won't get any until Christmas.

PSVR has only one screen 5'5 RGB OLED.1080p

HTC Vive and Oculus Rift got double screen and resolution up to 2K

The lenses all glasses have 2,even the Google cardbox

But Vive and Rift use pentile screens, so their actual numbers of pixels are not much higher than the PSVR....

Yes, you are right about the screens. And a little bit bad explanation from me about how 3D is compared to 2D. And why Sony can't show 3D. You need a proper equipment.
And Samsung VR is the headset, that needs Samsung Galaxy phone I was referring.
But you put it right, thanks. :)

Yes, indeed, you have a little less screendoor effect in PSVR, but the higher resolution of vive and Rift give more sharpness, and also more lateral degrees view than PSVR.

Headtracking and roomscale is also better in vive and Oculus.. But the price of both are more expensive than PSVR obviously.

Let's see the next generation VR glasses from Sony and how the technology progresses.
But if i want a VR this generation i would surely go for the oculus on a PC.

Consoles are still limited in performance, but it is already know that the Xbox One Scorpio will have compatibility with Oculus Rift..
Let's see also the improvement that PS4 pro does with the PSVR.

I have a question to those that have it, I read you can play normal PS4 Games i.e 2D discs (does this include the original DriveClub to play in 2d?) and can you watch it in cinematic mode via the headset and are the graphics then very sharp?

I have also found this very helpful guide http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016...id=787688316221087745&adbpl=tw&adbpr=10671602 from Playstation on all the recent questions and specs which was a helpful read for me.

I did see some videos online of the Ocean Decent-in a cage, with the Shark attacking you and pulling at the cage until it comes off this must be immersive and scary at the same time, I bet you forget you are in your living room! It is just you and the deep ocean! I also watched a cool video of UD Rush of Blood on a rollercoaster going fast shooting things and flying a plane looked good, from what I have read the demo disc looked pretty full of things and a good range of free games to try.

Rushy mentioned something about DCVR being a new game based on the old, with new features etc., such as the spectator mode, which is why the game-save isn't transferable. My guess therefore is that you wouldn't be able to use that feature on the original.

Probably fine for those with the cash to afford a gaming PC and then pay the Oculus price but I certainly couldn't.

You can play anything in cinematic mode so long as it has a HDMI output. People have played Xbox and Wii U games within the PSVR so yes, you could play DC in that mode.

That being said, the resolution still appears the same so if you're hoping for a sharper image it's not going to be much better (if any). Just a worse version of playing it on your TV

I can't imagine I'll be using the cinema mode of PSVR for regular games or movies. I've tried both - including the original DriveClub - and while the virtual screen does indeed feel like you're sitting in a cinema, the large resolution downgrade is just too much of a trade-off for me when you don't have the scale, depth and free movement of VR to help you forget the shortcomings of the tech and immerse you inside the game world.

Thanks guys, If it is no better I understand you would only use it for the VR games/videos. I wouldn't mind trying one at least it looks immersive/fun if nothing else.👍

Can someone explain me why everybody is running with their TV on when using the VR headset? It looks extremely silly.
"community screen". The idea is that others can see what you are doing and you can share the experience. You know, with "friends" or "family" ;)
