Drivetrain conversions

Eh? The WRC car was an example of starting from a road car chassis, the DTM was the car that is started from scratch.

Ah ok, miss read that but like the stobart vid better.

Something like this would be fun to work with in GT6

I think this could be fun. But these type of cars would need to be classed as something totally different. In GT5 we can set it to untuned or tuned cars, these new cars would need a new class like super modified.

I would be very disappointed to see online over run with these converted cars (sure they'd be fun). They would need their own separate class to run in to keep it fair.

I also wanted to point out that this long thread is full of quite a lot chit chat between 4 or 5 guys. I thought this must be a really popular topic with some real substance, but instead its mostly fluff.
I dont mean to insult anybody, I'm just pointing out that we've only heard a few points of view repeatead over and over.

I think 4WD to RWD conversions are okay, but any other conversion is not easily done in reality. Maybe a select few cars that are available both ways. FWD cars with an AWD option (ex: new Ford Taurus), RWD cars with an AWD option (ex: Lexus IS, tons of other luxury sedans).

I really hope that we get this in GT6, it's one of my favorite parts of Forza

But it would have to keep some degree of realism, so the engines have to be from the same manufacture and nothing to over the top such as a Ford GT engine in a KA as i imagine there would be far too much work needed to be done to the KA chassis.

I need to do some research as to how automotive group resources can be shared. I'm not sure if I'll find much because I'm sure we'll only know how much sharing is allowed when the license agreements are completed.

If it's possible then yes I would like to see engine sharing between major groups like DaimlerChrysler, VWG, and FHI. It would ultimately lead to a wider variety of options and more possibilities.

The only problem is, that we'll end up seeing the system abused with things like a V12 Fiat 500 :(

Eric.

^this, I truly think too much choice in tuning in a game like the GT series has the capacity to rob it of its appeal..the argument for wild drivetrain swaps seems to be a capacity for GT to to emulate what is possible in real life, and the problem becomes again that "possible" is too wide of a range to cover..truth be told given enough money and proper facilities to work with it is possible to mount a train engine in a car, that doesn't mean we should expect the PD modeling and programming teams to hampered down by the stark body and suspension changes necessary to make it work..make your argument for MR integras and crxs, Veryon swapped bugs and v10-ed fiat 500s and I show a bunch of cars that are inherently unsafe, most likely not street legal in any capacity and even if they are, not reliable enough. I don't think GT should ever be considered to be a sandbox game where you can simply bolt up whatever you like and go racing, because if that were the case the top players would all be V12 TDI swapped awd Karts...I think its time for our minds to take back over and realize a little bit of restraint is a good thing...there are plenty of manufacturers that have vehicles that will allow for drivetrain swaps with a minimum of body modification, in many the mounting points for a front and/or rear differential are already present; and I guarantee people will have enough fun with their rwd swapped audis and subarus that a FR civic or awd F40 will just seem...unnecessary
Don't get where I'm coming from? Well, try this: I want a livery editor sooooo badly, and probably will until I see the first sticker bombed Hello Kitty Veryon blow past me with its V10 fwd conversion (yes, you know someone will do it..)

I would swap everything to AWD. Citroen 2CV? Why not R4??

I would do AWD for all of my drag cars because you just can't beat those launches :D

And there's an RR drivetrain version of the 2CV which would be killer for drifting

The 2CV in GT5 is RR. I want it either R4 or the bold RF.

Is it really? Hoover dam what have I been missing out on?! All this time and I thought it was the FF version.....

I can't imagine how an RF drivetrain car would handle...lol

I've thought about it before as part of a revolutionary supercar design but my logic just keeps shooting the concept down lol I'd like to own one of those

I think it would help reduce oversteer...by masking it under extreme understeer.
It COULD also help with aerodynamics. If the diff is up front, the engine can be lower to the ground. Make a SLR better than a Veyron.

My biggest fear would be control. For more powerful cars, getting off the line would be a nightmare! The car would pull right into the wall:eek: hello torque steer, nice to see you today...lol

It would certainly help weight distribution and center of gravity though:)

Here is a picture of one. This is the only car ever produces where the engine was behind the rear wheels, but the front wheels were driven:

That is the most bizarre thing I've ever seem...It looks like a plane without wings! I guarantee it was an epic track day car;)
