So this is what i came up with for qualifying in a public lobby room.
1. Need a Pace car/Observer
2. Free practice until 15mins before race start time (roughly, time for connection issues etc.)
3. Pace car calls for Qualifying to begin. Everyone to pit lane.
4. Everyone has 15 mins to do 5 laps (Max) to post their best time.
5. When they have done 5 laps, or think they have posted their best time in less laps, they return to the pit lane and wait. No leaving to change settings allowed. If you leave you lose your place.
6. After 15 mins, the pace car/observer uses the 'watch' feature to note down everyones best time from the last 3 laps. Notice it is the last 3 laps, not 5. So if you think your 1st or 2nd lap is going to be your best, get to the pits after lap 3 and wait to find out.
7. Pace car calls out the grid order using 'chat'.
8. As your name is called you take to the track and form a slow practice formation lap. This is so everyone knows where they will be in relation to everyone else.
9. Race host starts the race.
10. Everyone does donuts for 35 seconds while we wait for the race to start
11. Formation lap. Let the grid form up by making room for cars to get past you.
12. Pace car in, Race starts!
It reads more complicated that it is. It's basically what we did on Friday but, with a bit more structure. Key points are getting people to only do 5 laps max and getting people to stay in the pit lane when they have done 5 laps (max).
As always, work in progress. Open to suggestions/comments/questions.
