Firstly, thanks raci for that comment. Its a love/hate relationship i have with GT5DTM. But people seem to come back series after series. Symp is the one that deserves the praise for a lot of what the GT5DTM is today. A lot of hard work and late nights have gone into making this series what it is today. But above all, the quality of driving, the creativity of the people involved, the professionalism (sp?) of all the drivers, make it a series i am proud to be a part of. It could have failed a lot of times (i moved house/job/country during DTM3) but i think the strength comes from the fact that these cars are fun to drive. Lets not forget that they are 'standard cars'. This is probably the longest running GT5 series using standard cars. I think we have a good reputation within the GTPlanet community (other than our connection issues) and i want to be around when we get some sort of a award for it :) lol. {and the winner of the GTPlanet awards 2025 'beating the connection bug' goes to......GT5DTM...}.

Secondly, great turnout on the gt5dtm.webs.com registration. We have 14 registered drivers (including me who has not yet registered...) They are:

1. karolibnho / karolisnaste (new driver)
2. Pipi_r6 / PipiR6 (veteran)
3. sympsymp / SymP_4000 (veteran)

4. cibos6 / cibos6 (new driver)
5. Aqua F1 / TomM_F1 (new driver)

6. Goruk / Goruk77 (DTM1 Champ)
7. Biffy / BiffyClyro93 (veteran)
8. godoias / godoias (veteran)
9. toyotsupra / toyotsupra (veteran)

10. Greennarcotics / Greennarcotics (2 time champ)
11. jnrbshp / Jcy_B (new driver)
12. RaciGManiac / LKWTrailer (new driver)
13. Dany_CL / Dany_CL (new driver)

14. gtp_j_turner / JT977 (me)

New drivers will have to take part in thePre-season race(s) on Tuesday the 8th of November at 8:30pm GTM (convert it to your local time please) before being able to take part in DTM V. Or PM a veteran and race some practice sessions to see that you a clean driver. Remember 'clean' is more important than 'good' in GT5DTM.

May have posted in forum so sorry if you have. I'll update.

Things to sort before pre-season race:

1. Venue of pre-season race.
2. Weather races (whether or not (pardon the pun))
3. Car regs (1120kg, 483BHP, 600pp) Yes/No?
4. Penalty PP/Weight/BHP. What do we want?
5. Split Vaux/Opel, Astra/Calebra?
6. Change qualifying? (2 mini races like DTM4 Special stage?)

A lot of info at this late hour, but lets get it sorted.

Just wondering, is pre-season next Tuesday? As the date says so but then your still finishing things off.

1. Venue of pre-season race?
I would say make it a mix of tracks and be sure to make it hard and wet.

2. Weather races (whether or not (pardon the pun))
See previous remark

3. Car regs (1120kg, 483BHP, 600pp) Yes/No?
Make it 600PP and see what we can make of it

4. Penalty PP/Weight/BHP. What do we want?
I would say let's go for the PP but not until we have a matrix of all cars and what combinations of BHP/Weight/Downforce will make the PP's

5. Split Vaux/Opel, Astra/Calebra?
If the Alfa's can compete also when regulation is based on PP's ... I would say anything is possible!

6. Change qualifying? (2 mini races like DTM4 Special stage?)
I was thinking the same! (well, sort of) Let's make it short races and take the fastest laps from those sessions. We can even rule out short cutting by enabling penalties. And it can be reviewed when qualification is part of a race. Also the 'late comer" issues can be solved. They just start at the back then. The weight or PP check has to be done again just before the race starts.

This is how it goes in real DTM:

Qualifying

Since the 2009 season, the qualifying session is held in a multi-phase format, comprising four phases.

In the fi rst knockout phase, the drivers have got 16 minutes time to set as many fast laps as they like. The fastest 14 drivers advance to Q2 while the four slowest drivers will qualify for the grid position 15 to 18.

In Q2, the drivers have got just 11 minutes to clock a fast time. The fastest eight drivers qualify for the third knockout phase of qualifying, the rest has to make do with the grid position 9 to 14.

In Q3, the drivers again have got 11 minutes time to outqualify their rivals. The slowest four qualify for grid positions five to eight while the fastest four make it to Q4. This fourth phase differs from the first three. Here, the fastest four drivers go out one by one – in reversed order to the fastest times set in Q3 – for individual time trials, comprising out lap, timed lap and in lap. The times set by the drivers in Q4 are crucial for the grid positions of the fastest four drivers, with the fastest of them securing the pole position.

I suspect, I know, no I'm sure they want to be part of DTM V! They just have to fill in the form to choose their car and make it official...

But good news we have lots of new drivers who registered. Let's hope the turnout on 8-11-2011 will be the same so we can make the final team selection. I believe there are still some free spots. Just register! on gt5dtm.webs.com and show up on the pre season event!

1- Suzuka (weather)

2-bring your best tires....

3-Think more test should be done speciality with the Alfa and "Calebra"

4- May work

5- don't think it's necessary (only if we get more then 12 drivers)

6- I think it's fine as it is, with all the connection issues we have on race day:odd: and people running late race would start around 23....
We all grown up to figure it out, and be honest about times, cutting, etc....

^^ hey, you made the DTM series V logo...in the same format as DTM4..i was just about to do the exact same thing. You are ace symp. I'm sure we were seperated at birth..

edit: added ^. Goruk was too quick. shame he couldn'tbe as quick on the track. (cat noise) lol

you pick a 1st,2nd and 3rd choice car when you register. Normally JT will try and give everyone their 1st or 2nd choice car if that is not possible, then some people will end up with their 3rd choice. If it is not possible to give everyone their choice of car, then it's upto JT to decided who gets what and only he could tell you if his decision is based on the seniority of the members involved.

Sounds good to me

DTM5 TESTING 600PP @ ROME

CLK - BHP 483 (Turbo 2 ) WEIGHT - 1120kg PP 600 DF 35/60 - 1'03.959
CLK - BHP 473 (Turbo 2 ) WEIGHT - 1120kg PP 600 DF 39/64 - 1'03.895

M3 - BHP 484 (Turbo 3 ) WEIGHT - 1120kg PP 600 DF 35/60 - 1'04.028

ASTRA - BHP 484 (Turbo 3 ) WEIGHT - 1120kg PP 600 DF 35/60 - 1'03.819

TT-R - BHP 483 (Turbo 2 ) WEIGHT - 1120kg PP 600 DF 35/60 - 1'03.833

A4 - BHP 484 (Turbo 2 ) WEIGHT - 1120kg PP 599 DF 35/60 - 1'04.061

Looks pretty even on paper but I did struggle to get that A4 time although the car feels a little better. Also the M3 time I feel there's room for improvement as I just wasn't comfortable in it.

The CLK has the option of extra DF instead of BHP but I think extra DF would only be a good option if on a very small track with very little straight's. But the CLK with 10bhp less would be alot easier to overtake on the straights so it's likely to stop CLK's extra DF being an advantage.

Going on that data I would say it worth trying the 600pp and for penalties have 1st. -3pp 2nd. -2pp 3rd. -1pp....... I think 1st. -4pp 2nd. -3pp 3rd. -2pp 4th. -1pp would be a bit much.

For pre-season race I would maybe have a few wet 5lap races on a few tracks instead of qualifying. Then do a full race with the real weather on a track.
Also what worries me about real weather is we're in winter now :nervous: we could end up with every weather race being really Wet. I would only have 1 weather race this season as we can drop our 2 lowest scores So if it goes horrible wrong for some people it's not the end of the season.

Anyway thats my thoughts on DTM5 :)

How much more HP is it then last season?

Sorry to be a bit of a pain, but can you change my option to use the Audi TT-R to the Mercedes CLK, had some second thoughts :sly:

Good work Green! I would say we go for the 600PP and PP penalty system for DTM V. (is it possible to get the Alfa to 600PP?)

And about the weather. What about if we set a maximum of 2 (or 1) wet races to the championship? So if we already have had 2 wet races the last weather race will be changed to a normal race.

I was going by 483BHP 1120kg 600pp Regs, I think the weight should remain the same atleast the only car that cant reach 600pp in those regs is A4 so you could maybe allow a max BHP of 493BHP So A4 can get to 600pp and this would also allow drivers to take off downforce and increase BHP depending on track. But I don't think just going by PP is a good Idea we need to keep the weight and power of the cars equal.
So either 483BHP or 493BHP and 1120kg,600PP would work well

I've submitted my register earlier this evening 👍

DTM V - PRE SEASON TESTING - TUESDAY 8th NOVEMBER - 8:30pm GMT

Weather Key - Surface water/Changeability/Weather at Race Start

8:40pm GMT - Mini Race 2 - Monza (Weather - 15%/5/75%) 3 Laps

9:00pm GMT - Full Race - Spa-Francorchamps (Weather - 0%/4/75%) This is the current forecast for Tuesday but i will update on Monday.
Laps: 20 + 1 Formation lap.
Pit windows: 5->8, 13->16.
Full regulations race, pit windows, all 3 tyres, wet race at 25% etc.

Car Regs
Power - 493BHP Max (Room will be set to this first)
Weight - 1120kg Min
PP - 600pp Max (Room will be set to this once everyone is on the track, make sure your car is legal or it will be booted off the track at this point)
All other tuning up to the drivers.

All new drivers must take part in the Full Race @ Spa (at least) to be sure of there place in DTM V. If you cant make this race then post it here on this forum and arrange a practice session with a veteran. They will then confirm that you know the rules and are a clean driver.

I'll have your cars ready for you at some point tonight. You can use any of the cars during the pre-season testing. If you like a different car after testing then there will be a 3 day swap period. Everyone is free to swap with another driver if you both post messages on the forum saying you agree to the swap. On Friday @ 11pm GTM the swapping stops and that is your car/team for the whole series.

Don't know about the max power/min weight combined with max PP... It's basically how we already did it (we just didn't do the max 598PP check) so it still doesn't solve the downforce advantage of the CLK.

The advantage of just a max PP and a PP penalty system is that it makes it simpler for the host and the cars are as equal as they can be.
