Which Circiuts should we use for DTM3? (Top 5 will get used)

@JT: I know from experience that DBR isnt much of a GTP poster so you'll have to ask him via PSN. And isnt sassafrass driving the CLK again next season?
 
^^^ We had the Nordschleife in DTM1 and it didn't go down well. Apparently it was a long race with no overtaking and nobody ever saw anyone else. We are focusing on the GT original tracks for this season. I plan on having a free vote for DTM4 (cant believe i've just said DTM4 already), so it may return.

i guess it makes sense, though im surprised that it didnt go well in the past... i've done ~ 250-300 laps on the schleife in gt5. overtaking is usually the result of a mistake, but some passing can be done
24hour version has it at least :)
 
Hey guys, since JT and Symp won't be available next weekend, we could do a pre-season race, so everyone get familiarize with each other and get to know all the procedures (quali, formation lap, etc).
And have an idea off the new drivers/car pace :sly:
Thoughts?
 
Sounds good what track you thinking? I could give away loads of prizes to encourage people to turn up and to race hard ;).
 
Sassafrass is taking a season off. May be back at a later date hopefully.

I'll put DBR in a Vaux/Opel space for now. Confirm tonight if we have time.

The 24H Nurburgring was the track we used in DTM1. Think it was 8 laps with no formation lap. Raced over a simulated Dawn-to-Dusk time setting. Got some great pictures but it was a bit of a precession by all accounts. Like i said before, i dont mind the track at all and wouldnt mind having it back at some point. Maybe as a 2 lap race in a Special Stage. But i dont think there is much appitite for a longer race. Maybe im wrong but it will be available as an option in the DTM4 poll.

Great idea Goruk for the pre-season race meet. I'll leave the details up to you to decide (well volunteered..lol). Would be good if all the new guys could be there. Hey, maybe you could have it at the Nurburgring 24H....

I will hopefully have all the rules updated and set in stone by next Thursday, along with a new splashscreen and full race schedule.

One regulation that might change is the Max power from 502bhp (510cv) to 473bhp (480cv i think). The real DTM has a limit of 470bhp and i want to bring it inline with that. Less power could mean closer races.

Also, how do you think the penalty weight has worked out? Dont think it made that much difference myself. Was thinking of just making the weight limit 1120kg and no penalty weight. Thoughts?
 
I think the weight does make some difference not much but, 10-30kg pretty much no difference + 50kg starts to make a difference. I think it does add to the races aswell makes it harder for same person to win every race.I would put the weight penalties up that would make things alot more competitive as people with weight have to change tactitcs to achieve best possible postion. Also will give less experienced drivers a chance to score big points

^The problem with increased penalties is that the Merc CLK can only go to 1200kg max. That gives us only 80kg to play with.
 
Any Opel or Vauxhall Astra or Calibra Touring Car. There is 4 cars to choose from in that team. All are pretty much the same spec.
 
I agree with green. The extra weight is noticable only above +50kg. I think we should give it another chance in DTM3 and see if we can fine tune this. Maybe by finding a way to get the better drivers to that extra weight quicker.
 
How about:

1st +40kg
2nd +30kg
3rd +20kg
4th +10kg

Never lose weight.

Win 2 races and you will be on max weight for the remainder of the season. Only Goruk and EFJ1 won more than 1 race in DTM2.

No weight pens for Special stage races.

I would still have weight loss 5th -10kg 6th -20kg 7 -30kg 8-40kg or something like that, so people below 4th are getting faster and people above 4th are getting slower. Also i like the idea of making the weight 1120kg this means m3 will be same weight as rest of cars and 473bhp Im not really fussed if thats what DTM uses then it makes sense to make it the same. Thats what i think anyway :)
 
I think by lowering the BHP the BMW will have a flat line in the power curve having max power in the whole revs range. Raising the minimum weight to 1120 will make this car like the CLK in DTM1.

They didnt tell me that when i left the BMW team! :lol:

Anyway, why dont you guys test this out in the next pre-season race and determine the definative regulations for DTM3 after that.
 
BTW JT, If you want i like to help you out again with the creation of the new sheet and layout of the results and standings. As a mather of fact, I already have ideas about that!
 
Go for it SymP. I've got a crazy couple of weeks ahead of me. I'll try to keep everything ticking over but could always use a hand. I've had a tidy up in the dropbox and there is a folder waiting for DTM3 stuff.
 
Hi guys! on the power subject, I think the cars are pretty even right now changing the power could create a surprise.

For the pre-season race, instead of one race we could do severals races of 10-15 laps so we can test the different car/specs.
 
yeah goruk does make a good point, 4 out the 5 cars won a race last season so things are pretty even just now. I think if the new drivers all show up for pre season then we should do a big race to get them used to rules mainly the pit window and 3 compounds. But if mainly last seasons drivers we could have abit of a testing session or something.
 
Good point on the full race Green:tup:, so which circuit should we use, Monza? Suzuka? Trial Moutain?
 
think both monza or suzuka would be good also think cape ring would be good since it just missed being one of this season tracks, think monza would be sensible, suzuka would be fun and cape ring would be nice lol....... i dont really know lol anyone

also im gona test the 473bhp 1120kg for each car, which tracks do you think are best for that i was thinking of daytona,Nurb-ring GP/F and monaco

Did a quick test on daytona with all 5 cars on same settings ( which may have favoured some cars more than others not sure would need to do futher testing)

Audi A4 - 0.49.697
CLK - 0.49.734
ASTRA - 0.49.780
BMW M3 - 0.50.275
Audi TT - 0.50.475

M3 and TT stuggled to reach the same speed as others not sure if its something to do with setup, tried lowering transmission but didn't make them much faster. This is only an indicator of how fast the go round in a circle, but its look like new regs would not benifit the audi TT

Good work Green. I'll have a go with the 4 cars i have. I dont have a CLK so cant test that. Also i think Monza would be better to test at than GP/F because of the mix between long straights and slow chicanes, a perfect mix between Daytona and Monaco.

I'm also going to try to find the best setup for each car and post them on this forum. It wont be my work, i will give credit to the real genius, but hopefully it will give a good base for everyone to test from. I struggle to compete mainly because i have know idea what to do with my setup. I think my lines are good but really struggle to keep traction out of tight corners with the DS3. Good setups might help me, and others, keep up.

I think it would be right if Cape Ring was the circuit used for the pre-season test race. Just have to decide which version. Also need someone to explain all the rules to the new drivers and watch the replay to see if there is any issues with drivers following rules etc.
 
Hello! Can we discuss the race start time? Maybe a vote? For me will be good if the race start at 5 or 6 hours before than we have now.
 
I don't mind doing different time, isnt 5 or 6 hours before quite early for you is that not like 11am or something, it would be 3pm 4pm here. I do like later cause you can practise during the day but thats it.

Sure, i can participate if the race start at 16:00 GMT. Maybe we can discuss this. We can practise during the week and before the race. Lovely this prizes good idea!
 
I wont be available for this race anyway but, with most of the guys on EU times you might struggle to get guys to race in the afternoon. I wont be able to race until after 8:30pm BST on any night because i have kids to look after.

Rules updated.
New rules added and some now obselete.

Biggest changes are the BHP from 502bhp to 473bhp and addition of penalty times etc.

Ammendments are followed by this | symbol.
