Well, driving standards have been plummeting over the last few years.

Anybody but Neal. I don't think he's worthy of equalling Rouse's title record. But that's just my nostalgic bias.

Great qualifing session from Plato, looking like MG vs Honda with a NGTC Focus and Toyota thrown in this weekend. Also impressive performance from Fuller on his debut in 14th 👍. Newsham seemingly lacking pace in the old Vectra a shame as he was looking for better coming into the weekend :(.

Shedden was at a 90 degree angle through turn 1 and managed to save it, incredible! Jeff Smith ran out of talent with an identical moment and has wrote-off his Civic.

Yeah a horrible shunt, that hurt :ouch:

Chris James snapped as usual ~expects twitter rant~

Some decent racing today, not too many dirty moves and plenty of nice passing and battles going on. A shame that Adam Morgan can't catch a break as he clearly has the pace.
Same for Ollie Jackson, was hoping he could pulled something special in the Golf.

Fuller was impressive for a rookie. 👍

Yeah, there was some decent racing. Always good in the rain too - Shedden was hilarious to watch, sideways everywhere.

This is what I mentioned earlier for anyone who like the incompetent commentators managed to totally miss it.

Yeah, I spotted that, and Shedden mentioned it after the race too. He was pretty lucky.

I'm not sure missing it makes the commentators "incompetent" though...

Arron Smith did well in race 3, Jeff on the other hand.... Well, he's gonna be a bit sore for the next few days. At least he got out in 1 piece though!

Chris James really is an idiot. Do you think he drives in that sort of rain on public roads with no lights on? The idiot should understand thats safety regs are there for a reason. If his car didn't have working headlights and taillights then he shouldn't have been allowed on track full stop. Give him a fine and let him learn from his idiotic mistake.

Good racing overall though, even Matt Neal did will with his fractured hand - a subject I was getting very tired of hearing about with Toby Moody....... He gets on my nerves so much :-(

[QUOTE="cally-dave"Chris James is an idiot./QUOTE]

Quoted for truth. Am I only person who likes Toby?

You must be, he makes me want to tear my eye balls out! Tim Harvey us equally as irritating, it's that over-enthusiastic smile of his I think

Tim Harvey is a good commentator, he's the Martin Brundle of the touring car world, but I sometimes feel that it's as though he has to suppress what he really thinks so as to not be so controversial. Maybe ITV ask him to tone it down a bit.

I do not miss Ben Edwards at all. I totally and completely did not ever enjoy his BTC commentary, but, surprisingly and mercifully, he's not that bad on the F1 this year.

I quite like Toby Moody too, but then I got used to him after years and years of MotoGP commentary. He's not really much different to Ben Edwards in delivery, and I didn't mind him either. Still don't, doing the F1 commentary. And I don't mind Tim Harvey - I've always thought it useful to have an ex-racer on the commentary team.

Hard to beat John Watson and Charlie Cox though as a BTCC commentary duo. Or of course, Cox and Murray Walker. Helped that some of those lot were commentating on some of the best ever seasons in BTCC.

Charlie Cox during the Supertourers was just amazing. And I quite liked Watty too.

Has anybody seen the 'outtakes' of them on the end of the 1998 season review? They're hilarious, but I can't find a video of them anywhere on the internet.

Charlie and Watty were brilliant, in fact 1997-2000 in general were pure class. I still think that BTCC '98 was the best season of any motorsport on the planet (and one of the shortest as well)

Ben Edwards was far better than Toby Moody... Toby often misses a slide/incident etc. because he's too busy jabbering on about something irrelevant... he's enthusiastic though, I'll give him that.

Big up Tim Harvey and the amazing Steve Rider

Tim Harvey is brilliant for his knowledge of rules and regs etc, and at explaining things, I'l give him that! I suppose a bit like Coulthard is good for the same purpose for BBC's F1 commentary with Ben Edwards - who I prefer over Toby Moody.

I remember Toby's first BTCC race, and he was getting excited over the exhausts popping flames lol. I dunno, he just seems too...... happy......

I whole heartedly agree that Tim is more than likely told not to voice his own opinion too, which is a shame IMO, I reckon he would have plenty to say on Plato, most of which would probably be censored haha

I like Toby, he puts a lot of effort in and really seems to genuinely enjoy it all.

I think people often give commentators a hard time for missing things, getting drivers names wrong etc but I've never seen a commentator who doesn't make mistakes.

Everyones favourite commentator Murray Walker was famous for his humourous mistakes.

Even people mentioned here like Watson and Cox make some pretty big mistakes in commentary.
Watson especially can end up jabbering for quite a bit.

Anyway, Rob Austin is offering a space on his roof for £35 again with the chance of winning a couple of hot laps sat next to him:

And it's not surprising they miss stuff sometimes, either. They have a selection of monitors in the commentary box, all of which are tiny, plus data sheets and umpteen other things dotted about. They aren't just gawping at the TV like average joe on the sofa in his pants, and they have to keep the commentary going while doing all that too. Probably not as simple as people like to think...

I've no doubt that its a very difficult job to do, constantly trying to talk about whats going on, even if nothing interesting is happening

Yeah I don't think that really would have happened. The only way Gio is coming back is if someone gets some cash together for him.
Same for Turkington.

Sadly I won't believe they are returning until they line up on the grid. I very much wish they did though.
