Sadly Paul O'Neill has confirmed he won't be in the second Speedworks Toyota this season - revealing it was a bridge too far with the budget.

:(

Also, 50 days until the lads fire up the racing machines for the first time this season.

Hopefully if the BTCC ever picks up really big again with some bigger budget teams they give Paul a thought, a very good driver who deserves more than ITV job.

Hopefully Paul keeps going with the ITV coverage as he's a massive plus to the coverage. He can only get better with some more confidence when the cameras are pointed at him!

Such a shame, Paul has talent but it seems he can never show it.đź‘Ž Sport is going in the wrong direction in terms of money, they need to cut it down because good drivers are not getting the chance to show their talent. I don't mind pay drivers, like Nick Foster, as he has some skill and is clean. Drivers like Chris James shouldn't be on the gird wasting a spot for a future star.

If Paul isn't getting the seat I reckon Lee Wood is the next guy inline to get it, and would be great for Lee Wood I think he is a fantastic guy so hope he gets it.đź‘Ť

That's the way motorsport has always been even back in the 90s with drivers like bintcliffe.

I think Paul should maybe look at going into GT's.

Hmm, Paul's commentary may have been pretty good, but everything else in front o the Camera was a car crash... for this reason I'd rather see him behind the wheel....

My favourite thing about him was his grid girl from a couple of years ago. Roxie Rose..

Its always been in motorsport but I think some of the pricing of the sport is too much. You can buy a ÂŁ45,000 BMW 3 series, BTCC spec with NGTC or pay ÂŁ200,000 plus for an NGTC. Just buying an NGTC is a lot more expensive than the S2000, and if you are short on money the BMW seems a better idea as its almost just as quick, for a lot less money. I think paying to drive isn't whats wrong, but the cost of the sport itself is increasing too much

That's supply and demand though, noone wants an S2000 car they want NGTC hence the cost.

Also 200k for ngtc is a bargain!!!

Also, S2000 cars will become illegal in BTCC soon, just NGTC cars allowed. This will mean prices rising for NGTC cars and S2000 cars being pointless, unless your planning to run one in a BTCC legends series. My uncle is planning to run a 1997 works Civic in a legends series soon. I'll upload a pic of it some time :)

I have no idea how much an NGTC cost to buy, or how much to build but I saw it on touringcartimes could cost as little as to build will just cost ÂŁ200,000 not including development or anything else. Not sure if thats changed since 2011

NGTC are 400k, which isn't too make when you consider the aon ford project cost ÂŁ30,000,000.

S2000 are still running in the btcc but in a different class and a 1997 works civic that's interesting as a guy I know owns a works Honda from the same year doesn't look like a civic though ;)

Thats not a straight comparison though, you're comparing a completed car with a new car project.

NGTC are meant to be cheaper for spares and to maintain. While there is a higher short-term cost because of having to build and develop them, its cheaper in the long term.

Plus S2000 is being phased out, so its not worth running them anymore. They won't have the turbo boost equalisation so they're going to be behind the NGTC cars.

My point was it doesn't seem to be cheaper in the long run at the moment. While S2000 are being pushed back, and being de-tuned its not a bad idea to buy one and race it for one year. The S2000 car was opened in 2005(?), only been its 7th year. If the NGTC lasts just 6 years, or less, is the money being spent going to come back to them or while they end up with much less? I think its too much atm, but I like concept.đź‘Ť

Look what Lea Wood did in 2011, he ran a BTC Honda, which had one last season, and was given extra weight to get rid of the BTC designs but he kept it for one more season. Yet during his first round he finished 7th, scoring his first points and it helped boost him showing he had talent, and the next year he had a S2000 car with NGTC winning performance and bigger sponsorship. I think if you're a young driver who's doesn't have the money to drive a NGTC, isn't it better to drive the S2000 and trying to surprise people with an amazing result and hopefully get more money for the next year?

Sam Tordoff, Adam Morgan, Frank Wrathall, Will Bratt, Aron Smith, Jack Goff, James Cole and Howard Fuller seem to say no to that. :P

Paul O'Neill is not the only one to struggle for budget and I think the series is in rude health. We've got quite the entry list so far - almost entirely made up of NGTC cars. Does that really suggest its too expensive?

I think we could see a problem with some teams, lower teams, with lacking money. We don't know who's getting paid what, or the money they bring so don't know if some drivers are doing it for free or very low money, never know.

Also Andy Neate took over ÂŁ600,000 money to MG for them to build and develop the MG. Then think about the other money for MG, KX, Tesco, etc going into buying new parts (He crashed a lot) and improving the car. Its probably a lot of money.
I just worry that the sport might go too far with costs in a few years, and while just end up with a gird of drivers doing their job for free - because as Paul has said before the guys on the gird are doing their jobs, racing, and they shouldn't be doing it for a very little amount of money because they have bills to pay. I just hope the NGTC doesn't get replaced by an even better long term plan, because the whole point of the NGTC would become pointless and wasted money for lots of teams. But if it keeps going for a lot longer, hopefully things will work out but you never know.đź‘Ť

Diehardracer
And how the bloody hell could Strawman Andy know the things he has been saying?

Know what things? Everyone knows the money Andy Neate took to MG. I have said I dont know the real costs but ive read about drivers and teams using NGTC cars. Im just saying my opinion

It's common knowledge.

Everyone knows the money Andy Neate took to MG.

Common knowledge? Everyone knows? I love the way you two think because you knew then everyone will and somehow it was abundant in it's coverage.

I didn't know. I have not seen one article anywhere which discloses the total funds each driver brings to secure a seat.

It would please me if you could enlighten me as to where exactly it would be made common knowledge on viewing.

I did also say I didnt know how much each driver brings too but people knew about Neates because it was on the btcc news. Plus I think this article shows you should do some research before judging others.
