What would be really nice, instead of releasing an unfinished game (the low price of the game doesn't justify anything, in my perspective)... they would focus on the main thing in a racing game... stable frame rates.
I play on Xbox One Series X (and my critique is only aimed to this scenario)... and what a disappointment to see so much stutter and frame rate drops...specially with so low end graphics.
Playing Dirt 2.0 at 4k 60fps (rock solid since the Xbox One X) with beautiful graphics and sounds, and then switching to this?? It's like going 10 years back .
The excuse of the previous engine wouldn't allow longer stages, can't justifiy everything.
Just disappointed. Hopefully the developers can improve all things a little bit...
I put gt7 on last night for first time in a couple of weeks, light years difference

3 countries with différent roads and environnements. It's called the CER and NOT the Czech rally😉 At least I expected a stage from every country, even if it meant to reduce length.

I definitely didn’t expect a stage from each country. If we assume it takes, say, 6-8 months to build an environment from scratch, they would have had to start work on CER, around February. We only knew then that it was going to feature 3 countries, no idea how much of each. CER route wasn’t announced until July, possibly 5 months into work on the stage, then changed in August and the CER was apparently playable at the CER rally.

For all Codemasters knew when they started making the environment, it could have been 18 Czech stages, 1 Austrian and 1 German. It was always going to be a bit of a gamble as to whether they got close in terms of location, route or what country to represent.

Look at every other rally they made, they are exact, if not very close to, the real stages, because they knew what they were and where they were etc.

Sorry if I seem bullish on this but they started building this rally totally blind other than a rough estimation on region. So I don’t think it’s really fair criticism.

No no it's completely fine 🍻 I wasn't aware of that info but still 😉

The more I play, the more I feel let down by this game. Just a personal feeling I have. Will keep an eye out for the patches and new rally I currently have difficulties in keeping motivated. Everything is there but it isn't...the game has definitely moments of brilliance but they are to sparse. Add the snap-oversteer handling of the RWD and I get annoyed. Shame really...

I've clocked up 36 hours so far according to Steam and (somewhat amazingly) I don't think I've driven on any of the Greece stages yet. I definitely haven't touched the Scandia stages.

One thing I have (re)learnt; anytime you get overconfident and toss out the spare tyre, you're almost certainly going to get a puncture right after service... :ouch:

I felt like that initially, about this game being a letdown. I think the problem for me was that I’ve got DiRT Rally 2.0 on such a pedestal. It’s perfect. For me, if they added all the new cars and environments to DR2 with exactly the same engine, graphics, UI etc, I’d have been massively happy. But they didn’t, and initially that kinda sucks, because it’s no longer as smooth or technically impressive, and it’s a bit different where I really saw no need to make it any different. I didn’t even think I particularly cared about longer stages, it’s a game, 8km is fine. And no GB or Australia sucks. But the more I play the more I’m seeing little things, little upgrades and realising that it is a genuine upgrade in so many ways and I do appreciate the longer stages (although I’d still always personally rather more individual environments rather than making one big stage and cutting it up), I do see what they were doing trying to make this something akin to the perfect rallying sandbox experience.

Won't get to try it myself until later, looks like there's a potential career bug crashing the game that's happened by this patch, not affecting everyone and CER can't be selected in club championships yet.

Indeed, the game crashes when loading a saved career. Fully updated, restarted the game, console..

Well , on ea wrc discord seem that some critics aren’t allowed .

I really like EA wrc , but codemasters took a bad decision going to unreal engine..

As kunos already said, unreal isn’t a friendly engine for racing games, and I see same thing happening than with acc.

-hard to optimize
-demanding on resources
- they fix one thing, and old bugs com back with some new ones patch after patch

Codemasters should improve their ego engine so that it can allow larger stages and for the next wrc go back to ego engine or a proper engine.

Kunos also discarded unreal for AC2 and will go back to a proper own engine

There’s a cost with everything and I’m not sure they will have gotten value for redoing the Ego engine vs switching to Unreal.

The career crash is an odd one, and I’d wager it has more to do with the implementation of the Central European Rally into the existing saves than it does being on unreal engine.

FWIW for those interested. My career mode didn’t crash on Xbox so that’s good for me. Tried a few stages I know I could reliably get stutter on and they were stutter free (Monte and Chile), stutters on the pre stage lan of the car are gone, certain elements of the visuals appear sharper, such as the 206 WRC, looked cleaner and the sponsors were sharper.

Definitely some very good improvements and aside from the career crash thing for some, this patch should hit the mark for the people who had lots of issues.

I cut the hairpin and got a countdown to reset despite being back on track, then after 30s it just reset me anyway.

Interesting. Maybe I just missed the line horribly and got away with it.

Maybe they’ve bought the cut lines a bit too far in on the exploited stages.

Betting is a banned word.

Reason: Scams

Do you have already tested the 1.4 patch?
I think this patch changes not much to the better.
Bedsides that the car setups have now completely new ranges (where nobody knows if they are nearer to the real cars or not) the stutters are the same and Monte Carlo has the same problems as before.

Also it seems there is something wrong with steering sensitivity and FFB, I have steering deadzone set to 0, but in the car it feels like it has a deadzone of 20 or more. Or maybe some FFB singnals are inverted now ... I don't know.
I think I will wait for the next patch. This game is a mess.

Anyone else have strange green artifacts on the ground in today’s second moment in the avenger? On PS5, hoping it’s not my graphics card on the blink, haven’t had time to check other tracks or games yet

PC user here (Steam):
  • no career mode bug after patch, all loading OK from previous save
  • no performance improvements noticed, Monte has the same problems in the same places - nothing unplayable as previous patch fixed a lot but personally, I was hoping for more this time...

Yeah, I took the hairpin as wide as possible and no problem for me; so yeah, found the "hotfix"

In other news, My showcase of the C.E.R. is ready ! Enjoy ! :D

I haven’t experience any stuttering at all since installing the patch. Literally zero, even on Monte, was my first test location as it’s easy to consistently recreate it there.

What graphics card do you use?

Also they have not solved the brightness issue if playing in cockpit view. This is all disappointing. Maybe my last EA Codemasters game.
