Elegance Automotive Guild - Remembering TurnLeft.

I've done a few more laps tonight with the EAG Mercedes. I started with 2 laps where i took my time & got used to the handling of the car again as it's been a few days since i last drove it. First lap was early 9mins & 2nd lap was late 8:50's.
I improved my lap time twice tonight. The first was 8:48.651. The first lap time i posted the other day 8:52.121 & should really have been 8:48's but a few mistakes cost me time.
Then i broke my best lap time again the following lap with a time of 8:43.101.
I'm sure with a few more laps i can break into the 8:30's. This will be my target next time:cheers:

@danbojte & @Gyro1780 I've updated the Grand Tour scoresheet, those are quite remarkable times , there's only about 3 seconds the separates the 1st from the 4th , and we have a new leader with Spooky who turned his car into a ghost for us to chase 👍. Nice going guys, can't wait to get some time to go back on the track and try to close that gap .

I done a quick 5 laps this morning & couldn't beat my time :grumpy: I was confident last night that i could break into the 8:30's but i don't think this is possible for me now. Maybe i was a little too over confident  I think 8:43 might be as good as i can get. It was a perfect lap for me as i made no mistakes & i know the track layout really well after doing many laps round here in the past. The car drives really nice & is suited to my driving style. 👍
I will try again tonight but not sure i can improve.

Man you did quite well as is , that was really good 👍, I understand that feeling that one day you feel that you could do even better then go back the next day and realize you had really done an excellent time.

That's a pretty fair benchmark time you've set there. Well done :) 👍
Did you use MT or AT?

I think i might try the CH tyres too later tonight to see how much difference there is between these & CM tyres.
Has anyone tried any laps on the CH's?

Yes, we tried those out with CS & SH, I think it's safe to say that the insurance policy will not be covering you if you do use them , they lose a lot of grip under acceleration, especially out of curves, but I personally think they would be more realistic of how the car was back in 1954 with the stock tires. That's my personal opinion, the car we put out was done with more modern tires for a bit safer high speed driving at the Nurb. Have fun 👍, I did :D.

Are you insane   Seriously though, have fun with that as @TurnLeft says it is the more realistic option for the car and a whole lot of fun.

Great laptime BTW:bowdown: I'm going to runa few now to get my time up on the board. I think it's safe to say I'll be challenging for the slowest lap on this one :embarrassed:

Ok, time for @Woodski_427 to feel a bit better about his time :)

I've ran a few laps started off with a 9:27 touring lap then went into let's try this a bit quicker mode and got down to 9:15.849. Switched into full on attack mode...bad idea  Was actually doing not bad until the last few high speed bends out of the forest and came a cropper on one of those curbs:banghead:

So I took a little break and went back out with MT, yup I said it. MT :D I've gotten sick fed up of being in the wrong gear in so many places around this track (and a few others :irked:) It's time to change and break free of this last shackle :nervous: The result was a first lap of 9:10.905 with plenty of time to find, both through driving better and by not messing up so many gear changes :embarrassed: But I'll leave it at that for now don't want to get Ringworm now do I.

I'm off to process the film in the cameras (Yes film, the old ways are best ;)) and get some photo's over 👍

Edit: About those pics...

, you know get back in the swing of things, you know that you are allowed to use the 5th gear, we added that one remember, ....

, of course you do, you found that transmission. Sorry dude, it's been a while that I've been keeping quiet and after that crushing defeat last saturday I just felt I could use an extra boost to my ego at your expense, of course you being the more noble of us you will not attempt at evening the score :scared:.

You should have let him have that one, I was only getting revenge for my previous defeats at the Ring and Sierra...and Suzuka :banghead: damn tyre changes  Anyway, it was mostly the car, that Evo had Powah :D A better driver would have been much further away from you in that race. @danbojte was over around 2 seconds a lap quicker with it than I ever got :guilty:

It wasn't that long ago I went for a drive in my showroom stock 300SL at La Sierra with CH tyres at 100% rain. Let me tell you, that is an exercise in wheelspin! Even trying to be a smooth as a Prom Queen's thighs with the power delivery had the Gullwing breaking traction in 4th gear :scared:
I agree with @TurnLeft that they probably accurately replicate what it would've been like to drive the car on the old cross-ply tyres of the era.

Great to see you moving over from the dark side :P and trying MT. I think the 300SL shows good interest from around 4000rpm, thanks to magic performed by the guys in the EAG dyno room :) 👍
I've been in wings & racing slicks mode for a while now grinding cash. I need to spend a few hours getting my head into road cars & tyres mode before I start making attempts at anything serious around the Nordschleife. Otherwise I can see myself needing to place an order for multiple cars & I'm pretty sure EAG don't give a discount for buying in bulk.

Yes, TC, great pics. 👍 :)
Thank you

We don't no, sorry:guilty: But we do know of another 3 or 4 of them around that are in need of a little love, not to mention a whole lot of body and chassis repairs :ouch:. I'm sure if you can pick some of them up cheaply enough, we can come to some sort of arrangement with the restoration costs :D

I've been giving the MT a few tries recently, but I keep forgetting that I'm using it and do some pretty bad damage to my poor engine and gearbox
I feel that since giving up on "safe mode" and turning off ABS that I'm relearning how to drive all over again, so now I've got a bit more comfortable with it I might as well throw MT in the mix too. I know it's going to take a while to get use to it, but it'll be worth it in the long run 👍 That little session at the ring alone was proof enough of the benefits, as slow as it was :)

New Drift Record (For Me) :D 👍 The Non-Race Car Drift Trial in The 300SL - 4,798 👍 👍 👍

Woo Hoo Trophy Time!!!

@danbojte Try it with CH Tires. You'll get a better drift from her.

Try to keep her in 2nd gear, if you can and she will just drift away!! :D

I haven't spun out, the rear stays put, but if she slows down a little and you'll lose your drift.

Excellent work Brew  That'll keep TL's little helpers busy :sly: And giving @danbojte driving tips too...I never thought I'd see the day

I've just gone and got myself a couple of new cars, and was about to go for a run around on Sierra, up for it?

Thank you

You have to be able to walk before you can run ;)
It'll all pay off in the end & you'll wonder why you didn't make the change sooner.
I believe it's easier to stay in a rhythm when you use MT. By default alone there are more 'markers' to gauge your performance by. When I'm testing the gearing for a particular circuit, regardless of the car, I know before I've completed a lap wether I've hit the spot or I have to make a change. I can remember doing the endurance races in GT5 or earlier (the one's that lasted longer than 24 mins ) and churning out laps at circuits as long as the Nordschleife within tenths of one another. That sort of rhythm let me know when the tyres were falling of the edge and a visit to pitlane was imminent.

How true, I'm thinking that already :) It just helps everything, let's you focus more on other things as well 👍 I had a great couple of hours of practice last night in @Brewguy44's club last night with him, @TurnLeft and @Gyro1780. Just having some fun Free Run laps in a few different cars, playing cat and mouse. Well it was mostly playing, we were fine until BG decided to go bowling at the hardest braking zone on the road  Then everything got a bit more serious all of a sudden :mischievous:  By the end of the night I was still missing shifts and downshifting one to many gears, but your right about the rhythm too you can feel what's going on better without the unwanted downshift if you drop of the revs too much. Helps settle the car better for corners too. And the rhythm is always better found in a proper length endurance race. I used to run the qualifying sessions for way longer than 24 mins in older gen games :P My only gripe   So a good two hours was a great start 👍

The EAG duo were out in force and the verdict is unanimous...I think :odd: The C1 was the better of the two on the night. Although it was an interesting battle :)

TurnLeft had an awesome looking Nissan March out for a blast. Dude that thing can go  whale-tail and all 👍 And Gyro was showing me how I should be driving Ridox's J's Racing S2000  one of my latest additions :D he was doing a much better job than I was  Being fair, there are too many corners on the road round the lake that tempt me to waggle the tail a bIt :)

It would have been better if @ALB123 had been there too :( Sorry :guilty: We'll make sure you get many alerts next time ;)

Off to bed for me. Have a good whenever it is gentlmen
