F1 201X - Updates & News DiscussionF1 2010-2016

Seems as though PS3 users have been taken for a ride again, graphics are much better this time around but nowhere near as sharp or crisp as they should be 👎 Heres hoping the Demo is just that...a demo and the full game looks at least half as good as F1 2010. On a brighter note, the physics are much improved, cars now feel planted and stable through high speed corners and the new braking system leaves less margin for error. The games shaping up very nicely but still cant help but feel a tad dissapointed.

Initial observations:

FPS is definitely improved. Keep in mind I'm comparing Monza 2011 vs Monza demo 2012.
FPS for me was a huge bummer last year.

I love new menus :-)
Engineers look like they've had a little work done. Lol plastic surgery. Ha ha

Stock wheel settings may need some serious tweaking depending on your preference and expectations.
For me the stock settings make the game drive like the car floats. Keeping the car straight seems too difficult.
There is no official Fanatec wheel support (at least in the demo) the only way your Fanatec wheel will work is to put it in PS3 mode just like you had to in 2010 and 2011.
Will this change in the retail version? We'll know next week.
Time to play with wheel option settings to see if I can make it feel right...

Yeah, this will be my first Codemasters game. I have no knowledge of their actions for games.

Well, if you like driving fast (virtually) you have probably gone through GT5. Maybe not finished with the Red Bull X1 yet but who has??? I've been playing since F1 2006 (championship edition - pre-Codemasters) and have had lots of fun. I am still running F1 2010 as I thought the two new tracks (U.S. and India) on the F1 2012 version would be worth waiting for and I'm sure they will. I'm using a Logitech GT DF wheel and a digital projector on a 7ft. screen with a good sound system for full effect. LOL. You will need to set-up your car for each track but there are lots of info. on this site
(or racingdepartment.com) to do this.
To start with:- set the transmission to auto, driving line "on", A1 "easy" and "auto" brakes or you WILL wipe out until you know the tracks. All 20 of them .... Have fun.

I'm downloading the PS3 demo right now to confirm if the PS3 users truly go for a ride again, I'm curious to see the difference to the Xbox360 demo version.

Downloaded the demo on both my 360 and PS3 and can't notice any difference between the two. Of course I'm sure there will be tons of posts saying the 360 version is much superior and PS3 users got screwed again, but not to these eyes.

I loved the demo. I wasn't a huge fan of 2011 but this game feels much better, sounds better and looks better. I was on the fence but this demo has made this a day one purchase for me. Really looking forward to the game now.

you know what it is, some people say that even GT5 looks better on the Xbox360.

Thanks for letting know anyway. Tonight I can play the demo also. Looking forward to it :)

Played the demo on PC for a few hours earlier.

Game looks great, only issues were some frame rate drops near the start of the race. It was fine at the actual start when it should be worse but sometimes dropped on the second lap when racing in a pack.

The only issue I have with these games is the AI, I guess I'm expecting it to be completely realistic which is a big ask. But they still do some weird things like over reacting and braking in weird places and they still do that weird twitching side to side when driving in a straight line. But once your on lap 2 or 3 the AI driving is very realistic and they will not hesitate to pass you unless you are swerving left to right like an idiot.

Physics feel good, not hardcore realistic but the braking and lock ups are very well done and the cars react to kerbs nicely.

Only thing missing was damage? No damage at all in the demo it seems. Compared to f1 2011 that I played on ps3 this is a great game and I will probably buy it.

Where you checking this with fraps or similar or was it noticable to the eye?
If you don't mind me asking what are your system specs? I had no issues with frame rates whatsoever on F1 2011. My system, i5 2500k, 2x7850 and 8 gig of ram.

I've downloaded from steam, just that I won't get the chance until tomorrow to try it.

@ T-12, where's the screenshots goddammit.

Cheers Shaun.

Good thing with the ai is the full game has a harder difficulty not seen in the demo. Should be even better.

Was noticeable to the eye. But I think it's just my system is letting me down as it has crashed twice now and have had to turn the graphics down to medium. I'm running AMD quad core 3.6ghz processor, GTX 550 1g and 4 gig of ram.

Yea I hope so, It said in the options that the AI was running on legend and I was able to qualify 4th in a Williams. But I could not keep up in the race.

Thanks for the reply 👍.
I'll see how it runs for me tomorrow.

Any other PC guys have any first impressions?

Cheers Shaun.

Made a US/NA account and downloaded the demo. Honestly, I'm no graphics whore but this game looks pretty awful on my 42'' LG flatscreen TV. The FPS drops on the wet version of Yas Marina (on the PS3) are just unbearable. No Codemasters game has ever looked this bad on my TV (bear in mind that I've never played F1 2011).

The physics are however good.

So I tried the PS3 version yesterday and wasnt really pleased with it, just dl and did all challenge on the PC version and it's just so much better. Graphics are really good even if it's not maxed on my computer (high settings) and the game runs much more smoothly. No frame rate drop at all for me and it seems a bit more difficult on PC. On the ps3, the pole in monza was in 1.24 and on the PC version it was around 1.22. It might be because I didnt check difficulty on ps3 and only adjust it the first time they asked me.

Anyway I'll get the pc version without a doubt. If you have the choice it should be a no brainer.
The PC version is cheaper, runs in 1080p, got no screen tearing, it's just better all around ^^

Anyone else have sound issues in the Monza race? I was using the Sony Stereo headset, but anytime I got into the top end of the revs and was near other cars, the sound would cut out, making it hard to hear the engineer and other important info.

Steven Hood said it acts the same as hard so hopefully we will see what its made of next week :P

Loving it so far, very nice graphics, I get better FPS than I did on 2011, the graphics just look more real somehow. The colours and reflections are much more lifelike and look superb. The tracks just look like they have more life about them, can't put my finger on it. Marshalls are more visible and so on. They have added the antennae to be visible on the noses of the cars which again just gives it a more real life and authentic look (they even wibble around as well). Wet weather is beautiful as well, it was great in 2010 and didn't need changing but 2011 went backwards with it. 2012 seems to have regained its wet beauty. Overall my graphics impressions are very good. I was on high with driver car and track detail set to ultra, shadows to medium and 4xmsaa.

This is a definite and very good improvement over 2011, love how the curbs now bite back like they did in 2010 if you attack them too hard. Unlike 2012 you can attack them and get away with it but you need to use caution. Definitely enjoying the handling feel, I don't have my wheel at the moment so using the 360 controller for windows and it is very good, certainly more pad friendly than 2011. Less twitchy and more feel, good rumble effects too.

AI seem a lot more lifelike. Still a touch slow in certain areas but we have yet to see the hardest difficulty and I feel it is still challenging for me, highest qualifying is 17th and race is 12th so far. Had some good battles with the midfield runners. Been victim of some solid overtakes that show the AI have more balls this time even on this difficulty levels. Been passed into Ascari and Parabolica, and had a great late braking battle with Ricciardo into turn 1, which he won. Enjoyed being overtaken by an aggressive Schumacher, he came down my outside into Ascari, 190mph, DRS open and he squeezed down the small gap I left on my right, very nice. Vergne didn't attempt it when he had the chance to, instead opting to outbrake and go for the inside, dunno if it was just my cars position or if it shows that the drivers do have their real personas reflected in game, i.i. MS being aggressive and Vergne less so. So AI impressions so far are favourable.

Sounds. again, improved greatly, the first time I revved the Mclaren in the YDT the improvement was instantly noticeable.

UI and HUD are both very nice. HUD hasn't changed much from 2011, just tweaked. TV T-Cam makes a nice addition, I didn't think I would use it but I have used it alot, gives a great view just like the TV. You can't look left or right though like you can with the regular T-Cam view. UI is gorgeous, very very slick menus, superb presentation and the cars look ace as a centerpiece in the background.

Overall, I CANT WAIT!

Anyone else have problems with massive understeer and the feel of the car being aided even with all aides disabled?

A few shots of the game maxed out.

sems, I can snapshot my setup if you want but your biggest worry/problem is going to lie with wheel weight as I feel it over-simulates fluid dynamics. 30-60% is what you'd want I reckon as anything higher just stiffens the wheel to the point of things feeling quite unnatural and rough.

Downloaded it,any one have a decent G25 setup

Not sure if its decent, but its what i have atm .

as for the understeer, just do loads of free run laps, you will get used to it and you dont notice it as much. 👍

Currently browsing my PSN Store and no demo? What time will it update?

Both my Xbox/PS3 run through HDMI.... here's what i've gathered.

From what I saw the overall distance drawing of the PS3/Xbox version is that the PS3 has the blurring tech. The Xbox version just stays crisp. While the PS3 is still good, the Xbox version does have slightly more saturated colors.... and a slightly sharper picture.

I've also noticed that you can be smoother with the DS3 rather than the Xbox controller. F1 2012 sensitivity settings are higher on the Xbox.

Same framerate though. PS3 users didn't get the shaft. Absolutely not, if anything, PS3 users got the benefits.

I can't play this 🤬 anymore. The amount of understeer I'm getting is ridiculous.

I believe it may be to get the first time drivers used to not having a perfect setup. Mind you, the amount of understeer on Codies' hot-lap around Monza was appalling.

Yeah the YDT setup was ridiculous, horrible set up, the ones on monza aren't so bad though :) I'm loving it! :D

One thing I do hate is that it slows you right down if you go off like you drove into glue.

Why??????
