F1 201X - Updates & News DiscussionF1 2010-2016

Bazz, what platform are you on mate?

Playing it on the PC version. as for the engines blowing up, apparently it isn't just me, saw a massive thread on codemasters forums about it.

For those who need some perspective on my situation. Started the Career driving for Williams on the hardest difficulty (AI = Legend), I'm using a G27 wheel and I'm relatively pleased with where I had my controls (360 rotation 0% linear, which happens to be full linear). After my engine blowing up a number of times in random places I then switched the damage off, and after a few random penalties I set those to reduced.

I qualified in 4th place at Melbourne and finished in 2nd position, 25% distance. I was able to drive past all the cars at the start using kers, later I got passed by webber in DRS zone, other drivers were too slow/cautious to pass but I was slower than the 3rd place car (button). Then I went forward to Malasia and qualified in 7th, higher up was possible but the cars handling makes it very difficult to read (you get a reading on corner entry that you use to predict the car on mid and exit corner, this isn't a very reliable way to play the game like other sims) and I gave up, laptime was around 1:26.9. I haven't finished the 2nd race.

I need to try to clear this up, I'm not finding it difficult to play, I'm finding it difficult to enjoy. The handling model feels like it is restricting me or hindering me rather than allowing me to enjoy, the understeer makes it very difficult to read the car because it isn't a progressive understeer, just under that threshold the car has almost too much grip and then suddenly without a transition you have boat like understeer.

It's hard to explain the handling model properly and why I don't like it, but considering how many people are complaining about understeer I'm guessing I'm not the only one (codies forums are blown up with it).

It's the handling model and the bugs, the penalty system is bugged to hell and can't be turned off.

Idk what game you guys are playing but it drives perfect. I took the Williams to 6th in Australia on legend with no assists. You need to drive with proper technique. You have to ease off the gas to throw the car into a corner. Not to get to technical but when you are on the gas to hard, all the weight of the car is on the rear. With the truckloads of downforce on the rear it will understeer. Back off the gas

Appreciate the tip SKD but I have tried your method and countless others. In steam, it says I played a total of 3 hours, and I can't even pass the young drivers test on the hairpin one.

I am on PC with a Fanatec GT3v2 with the latest firmware (is this the problem?).

Saturation 4%
Linearity 3%
On wheel = sensitivity 240, DPR -1.

I played F1 2010, F1 2011 and iRacing (1 year member including the F1 car) and its like night and day between the cars.

I understand that some of you adjusted your style and it works but is this right? If I buy a really uncomfortable chair thats not ergonomic but as long as you change your sitting position its ok?

I am not trying to bash the game, I just feel peeved off that I wasted money on it. The demo should of come with a disclaimer "this understeer will appear in the real game" instead of "this doesn't represent the real game"

my ONLY hope, is the mod community. I know its fantastic and I really hope someone out there comes out with a mod to fix this.

I cannot race like this :( I really want to enjoy this game, paid for it. I have driven on tracks like Suzuka for over 5 years and I know it like the back of my hand on multiple titles, can't seem to pull off the same speeds over the chicanes.

As I said before, just forget the corners for a minute, have you guys tried on the straights high speed to make a sharp left or right hand turn and straighten yourself?

Stuff like that happens in real life, can't seem to do this in F1 2012, trying to do these slipstream moves on the straight at high speeds my car is like a bus. Perhaps its my wheel settings, I don't know, but I sit there and turn the wheel and I get wheel lock so its not like my wheel isn't going all the way.

That's your problem, you aren't supposed to turn till its locked

The only corner you should reach full lock is the bus stop hairpin in Monaco. I haven't been to suzuka yet so maybe there too but i doubt it

If you can play F1 2010 & 2011, you should be able to play 2012 as well. There's no excusing the fact that they haven't worked on how well different steerwhing wheels behave. It's evident in the amount of complaints from different people, all with different wheels.

It also should not be neccersary to change your driving style, for a specific F1 game, when all other past games don't require you too. This game clearly has big issues for people with steering wheels, some more so than others and that's what makes it such a cluster****. F1 2010 had a perfect setup right from the off, I didn't have to change anything. F1 2011 I had to make minor adjustments. This year I've spent the day making adjustments on & off and I'm still not happy.

Exactly. In F1 2011 I can drive dead smooth(G27, saturation 30% everything else 0), it just works. The steering input is perfect because every degree of wheel rotation is felt in game, there are no "dead spots" and/or extra sensitive spots.
In 2012 I cant get rid of some dead spots in the wheel without creating other problems.

Also I have had the same bug I had in 2011 where sometimes when the game is started, the steering lock is different to last time even though the settings are the same. This seems to be fixed by uninstalling the Logitech profiler(I'm on PC).

The understeer thing can depend on how your driving too.. I've had the rear slide out a few times in the low speed corners trying to drive like I did in 2011(trail braking with lots of rear bias). The game just seems to be biased toward understeer when the car loses grip.

I can see so many improvements here but I think its a case of 1 step forward, 2 steps back.. I wont give up yet, but for now time to pull out the 2011 disk.

This is the giveaway. I know you're a good driver from seeing you on iRacing. I know you're good enough to get through the young drivers test fairly easily. That hairpin test particularly is a gimme once you have your wheel dialed in.

It's something with your system or setup. I think it's messed up that the game is so sensitive to correct controller setup, and that they screwed up the out of the box controller settings so badly, but when you find the right numbers you'll wonder why they didn't set it like that in the first place.

I'm gonna wait until the price drops before I buy it. Seems like people are having some bugs here and there and that understeer "problem". Personally, I didn't really find it much of a problem in the demo.

Also, any DFGT users out there having problems? Does the wheel have resistance when turning slightly at high speeds? The demo has no resistance at all when making slight adjustments at high speeds making it impossible to keep the car straight.

This happens to me everytime. The settings are still there but the wheel behaves as it does with default settings. I have to re-enter the settings everytime I play. :banghead:

I'll try unistalling the logitech profiler.

Cheers Shaun.

Mine isn't saying anything, and I have voice all the way up. It is ultra annoying.

The last time mine said anything was in the middle of the first career race in Australia, I am now in practice at bahrain doing 100% races and he hasn't talked to me. Seems to be a bug as in china there was rain on several occasions and he didn't advise me on any tyre decisions which was annoying as I was in 3rd after almost half the race but had to settle for 10th after I stayed on Inters for a lap to long when it was raining hard.

Just a quick note for those with wheels: If you haven't already, change 'override input device type' under driving controls to 'steering wheel'. Then tune the other settings afterwards.
Just changed mine, it makes a sizable difference.

Is it true that most races are in wet conditions?
Reading some who say nearly every race is wet, including Bahrain.

Or are they exaggerating?

Quite often it rains yes. But more in practice and qualy than the race. It is a bit strange at times. It rains but the sky is clear blue. Or, everybody drives on intermediates while it rains like hell. Then I try to drive on full wets, but they give zero grip... Really annoying.

Thanks for reply mate. It's hard to gauge over on the official forum what is truth or hysteria.

Much prefer impressions from over here.

Which system are you on?

PS3.

I noticed after a career race in China too. He almost messed up my Canada race because I had no idea that others changed to dry weather tyres until I checked the race director option when the gap was getting smaller.

Is the G27 wheel compatible with F1 2012? If so then how do I get it to hook up? When I go into the game it shows I can use a wheel but it won't allow me to go into the wheel settings.

You should only put on inters when the entire track is wet, not just light rain. The slicks have much more grip than inters until there is just too much water on track. You don't need full wets until its been raining hard for 4 or 5 laps

Tried the demo fter downloading off Steam, crashed my PC right away without loading. I can run iRacing on full graphics but not open F! 2012 demo.. Very dissapointed. Any way to try get around this problem?

Anyone notice the update just released today prompting you to update to version 1.01?

In case anyone cared...the under steer that some complained about has been adjusted.

We'll see what people complain about now. I thought the handling was great and should have been left alone. Now it plays more like 2011. IMO

I may have jumped the gun there. The update loaded, but I discovered it changed my brake assist to abs, which made it seem to drive different of course. Anyway, not sure what the update did. Maybe it's the Race Net thing.

I think it was just theRaceNet thing; I registered but no idea where 2 new helmets are at?

The online menu sucks (my only criticism); every lobbyy I join is actually already racing:crazy:; takes forever to find a lobby that are still actually in lobby eh:crazy:
