F1 201X - Updates & News DiscussionF1 2010-2016

I`d be wary of what codemasters say and all the claims of miraculous improvements steve hood/codemasters make as they talk up the next installment. They have a history of promising gold yet delivering nuggets (you know the kind i mean).

They are than likely just telling people what they want to hear, so the game will sell and they will move on to the next installment while spinning the the same promise`s again.

My definition of significant improvement (PS3 version) is if the games FPS and graphics get within range of GT-5. That would be a significant improvement. If we get that I'll be the first to say "WOW", they pulled it off =) I really hope they do make a reasonable and noticeable improvement on those two key areas, as I think what they have done so far has so much more potential :)

I woulnd't go holding my breath on that one. Codemasters want parity in their graphics between platforms, but I doubt they'll be pushing for GT5 levels. There simply isn't enough time if they want to make the September deadline.

A feeder series makes no sense. Like I said, when people buy Formula 1 games, they buy it to drive Formula 1 cars. What they don't want is to be forced to race lesser cars for several seasons before they can get into the Formula 1 series.

The only way it could possibly work would be if there was one feeder race as an introduction to the game, a GP2 race somewhere like Abu Dhabi (like last year's GP2 Final), where your results in the race would determine the Formula 1 teams that offer you contracts. However, since the game will have the Young Driver Tests, this idea is pointless and redundant.

Yes I understand that hence why I said this new "career mode" thingy was being mis-interperated as a feeder series. ;)

From what I understand, the new career mode is designed to make the season feel like a season, and not twenty races that are separate from one another. I gather that Codemasters want to turn the paddock into a living, breathing thing.

Good. After a season, I quickly became bored as it was just the same thing over and over again..

So, I've decided that I'm not going to get F1 2012.

Instead, I'm going to wait to F1 2013 - and get a driving wheel and seat to go with it. And possible an Xbox 720/Playstation 4 if they're out by then.

Good decision. These games are best experienced with a good wheel and set-up.

If this young driver test changes what teams give you offers based on your performance like in f1 CE I think it will be a good thing.

people are misinterpreting the "young drivers test", its NOT a feeder series ect.

codemasters thinks its a better idea to target a younger/noob audience..

this test is simply a load of tutorials (similar to GT5 License tests) to show the newbies how to drive properly.

IMO i think it will completely useless to us experienced players.

I liked the team offers in F1 CE. I wouldn't mind that coming back, but I think it may just be a tutorial like he said.

What I think it actually will be is a sort of test session, to not only get you to grips with the car, but also to have some teams offer you a drive depending on how well you do. Like say, a 1:40 lap time and you will have the options of HRT or Marussia, and a 1:38 lap time would see Caterham and Torro Rosso also poking their noses in.

I think the young drivers test will be very important to figure out both who you'll be driving for, and to get to grips with the Pirelli tyres. Hopefully codies implement the tyres properly :)

Let's just wait and see guys. This is turning into a wish list and speculation. We have to wait until we get some more info from Codemasters.

It's not about the tyres. It's about learning the basics of driving a Formula 1 car.

not necessarily so. Perhaps it will better educate noobs to the point where they don't just smash into everyone. They should take inspiration from gt5's challenges and us the likeness and voice of a driver. My vote would go to Maldonado. :sly:

It's not about the tyres. It's about learning the basics of driving a Formula 1 car.

For the more experienced players, having the team explain how to setup the car to stay in the optimum tempurature for the tyres is very important. If codies implement the tyres properly, trying to learn about the tyres could be a very important part in the first season in career mode, and they could start with that at the young driver test/pre-season tests (if they have pre-season tests).

Also, I remember when I first got F1 2011. I went to Monaco, chose a quick-setup and started driving. The handling was very different to what it was in F1 2010, and by at the harbour chicane I got my first trophy, drifting for more then 10meters. I imagine the handling will change once again, as there will less rear down force due to the loss of the blown diffuser, and other changes (I've noticed in the time sheets that the cars are quite a bit slower then they were last year in qualifying).

You get that in every racing game.

They will add rear downforce making the cars more stable in fast corners at least acording to steve hood... he said in 2010 the cars had alot of downforce and in 2011 they went a bit too far and this one will balance it... dont know if that is good or bad...

Maybe they'll add a lot more drag then?

lets hope so... the cars where way too fast in F1 2011... I can do Singapore in less 10/12 seconds than RL and Im an average player.

But Codemasters have said that the YDT mode is just to introduce the major elements of Formula 1. There won't be anything in depth on car setup, because they're still retaining the model of starting each race with an okay setup for the circuit and allowing you to fine-tune it. You cannot, for example, get an extreme low-downforce setup for Monaco, or an extreme high-downforce one for Monza.

And it's unlikely hyper-sensistive tyres will be a part of gameplay unless you change the game settings to be a full simulation the way you had to in F1 2011.

In my humble opinion, the tyres have been a major element this season, and if they want to make career mode more of a 'career' rather then a bunch of individual races, the first season would be all about you and the team learning what to do about the tyres.

There are a lot of people who go on full expert, and a huge amount who use full simulation settings. I believe every difficulty has full Sims as default except Easy, and possibly medium. And tyre temperatures play a large part in this game with cold tyres out of the pits, and hot tyres when you use wets on a drying track. They really improved it from F1 2010 to 2011, so I don't see why they wouldn't improve it from F1 2011 to F1 2012.

Hmm, I reading a lot of rubbish here about Young Driver Tests, extra paddock time, different camera views..stuff that really doesn't need changing from the previous games - and more importantly its stuff that really doesn't add a whole lot to the game.

They need to sort the physics out and pull their thumb out on the bugs. They also need to focus on running higher-resolution textures like in F1:CE as personally I felt that looked a lot better than anything Codies have given us yet. They've got a reasonable engine built up from 2010 and 2011 now, they just need to fix bugs, tweak the physics and upgrade the textures - thats all I ask!
I don't care for the paddock rubbish. Its the least important part of the game.

I used to ask for the return of testing and some of the features from F1:CE. The Young Driver Tests are kind of along those lines. But after 2011 I'd much prefer them to get the core game right than waste time with the icing.

What I've heard of the physics is that it's a cross between 2010 and 2011's physics, and in a good way. I haven't driven it, of course, but what I do hope is that the unreal high speed oversteer you get is no more, as well as the amount of mechanical grip you had at low speed
