Thank you GT4 genius

For allowing zed300's times to be posted by me while he is temporarily off-line..:)

Do you guys mind if I allow posting for an extra hour. Its just because I havent got a chance all week (blame CODWAW) and I want to watch Top Gear now. Sorry guys, if anyone has a problem I'll not post it.

1:13.869, 22.376/29.996/21.497, SteveSpeed

Had a GP Weekend yesterday and tried to beat Shaggy's 1:14.102 and believe it or not I equaled it with slightly different sector times...

Had another go this evening and got the above time but my sector times tell me I could get a 1:13.289 - still more than Shaggy's new time...well done mate!

If I'd known I had another hour before I packed it all away though...

I'll leave it then, it would be unfair, competition over for this week. I will up date all this evening.

Congratulations Shaggy.

Big thanks to GT4genius and a1PAPAOSA for your help this week
Well done to Shaggy good time

In two GP Weekends that time was the only time I have got below 1:14.xxx so I doubt I would have beaten it without a lot more practice.

I can get 22.1xx to 22.2xx fairly consistently for the first sector. Got a 22.029on one occassion. My fastest last sector is 21.164 but usually 21.5xx
29.996 was the fastest second sector I could manage and I reckon it is the first two turns of that sector where I need to improve.

Not the most fun circuit but quite a challenge to get a good time. I actually like this a lot more than I did but it's still one of my least favourite tracks.

GT4 - Post your time mate...don't hold back just because of a comment made in jest by me! I came along late in this and it will not affect me at all. If the person(s) you are competing with for overall points don't mind then who am I to comment...? :)

Yeah great time Shaggy. I'd like to see what that 22.349 S1 looked like!

It is a matter of getting the lines right and you will get 22.3xx fairly consistently.

Brake for the first turn and take it and the next one at half throttle (or just a bit more). As you come out of the left turn, go full throttle and wide to the left and quickly cut across to the right to get back on the driving line allowing you to take more speed through the 3rd corner.

Once you get the timing right you should get 22.3xx fairly consistently. Get a great last corner on your preceding lap and you will get below that.

That's how I do it anyway...:)

My setup:

75% Wings
Max tyres pressures

80% TC

20/20 Suspension

0 Camber
0 Toe

Gears:
17.8
14.0
11.7
9.3
8.3
7.7
7.1

68/32 Brakes

I had low anti-roll for this. Can't remember exactly what but will post if you would like to know.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks everyone and congrats to all, especially SteveSpeed who seems to have taken to the competition like a duck to water. Updated my season stats again, looking forward to posting them next sunday after the season is finished. About my set up, it was pretty ordinary, mostly default settings and then the standard (high tyre pressure, high camber, stiff suspension etc. etc.) but I ran pretty high downforce. About 75/80 if I remember right. It's important the whole way round the lap and the only time you really want rid of it is on the main straight, but then again you need a strong exit from the final corner, New Holland, to get a good top speed on the straight. Note, when you do this circuit in a Renault you can shed a good 30% of downforce off both wings and still remain grippier than the Honda, and thus capable of some spectacular lap times.

Anyway, obviously Istanbul is the last track, but which car is it being done in G?

Whats up this week then GT?

As a tribute to a plucky little team who sadly did not make it through this season the final round will be held at Istanbul in the Super Aguri. đź‘Ť

PS: As an extra bonus round I was thinking that anyone with GT5P and the Ferrari F1 could take part in a special round just to see how close or different the two games are, obviously it will have no effect on points, just a bit of fun. What do you all think, or do many of you even have GT5P?

I ran very low wings in comparison to both of you in front of me 30/37 thus my slower sector2/3. It goes to show that setups can be very different for each driver, so maybe just asking how to get a car to do a particular aspect, may be more beneficial than posting full setups, for eg; How do you get the rear of the car to get more grip other than more wing? Something like that will help us learn to setup a car for ourselves other than copying a setup. Just an idea anyway.

Definitely true. I'd like to know how not to have the back end step out on me at Istanbul, I havent tried the SA yet but I know it has happened me a lot. :ouch:

All is up to date btw, Zed I could mathematically over take you but it is highly unlikely. :indiff: Also notice that the time has changed to 4pm, this is because I want to be around when the checkered flag falls on the final Sunday. Its been a great series and everyone who has participated has been great sports with the up most respect for each other, so thank you and enjoy the final lap of this series. đź‘Ť

Yes well GT4, the back end does have a bit of a mind of it's own doesn't it!!!Ahh if only it could be tamed.Love the circuit hard to find the most out of it.

Istanbul Super Aguri

1.29.689 30.212/33.133/26.344 zed300

Still a few tenths with this setup .I will endeavour to find more with more testing soon.

Oh and BTW are we heading into another comp or a break or .................

That looks like a quick time already to me Zed đź‘Ť

Istanbul is an absolute bitch of a circuit, if you don't take it right, turn 4 spins you all over the show, you need to just ride the edge of the apex, if you go wider you spin, if you clip the kerb, you spin. It has quite a lot of corners with difficult to judge braking points and generally you have to stay off the kerbs or you'll spin like a top.

Quick question, does lowering the traction control on a straight improve top speed once you're past 3rd gear? Anyone know this?

Here's my provisional time 1:29.835, 30.365/33.103/26.367, Shaggy Alonso

Here's the pic of my Catalunya time:

yep 036.jpg

I would go relatively low downforce and you should have more rear downforce than front. Perhaps soften your ride a little with the suspension and the front and rear bump damping (slide left to soften, slide right to stiffen).

Hope this helps, although I don't wanna share my full set up till the week is over :)

EDIT, oh yeah and unless you're running very very low downforce I would use the acceleration gear ratio to get the most out of the Super Aguri's poor top speed.

What turn number is the one that is an uphill right then drops away. I look like I am doing drift-a-car everytime. If I get a setup to prevent that, my lap time sucks. I made it through once with my faster setup and screwed in in the 2nd to last corner.

I think you're referring to turn 2 followed by 3. When you reach the crest then coast around turn three the car does feel very light and tends to be quite unstable but you can minimise that by experimenting with your braking point. Basically the car will stick to the road when you're breaking or accelerating, it's when you coast that it starts feeling a bit wonky. I just brake slightly late for it then try to get on the throttle as soon as possible to stop this from happening.

Have you changed tyre pressures? I found with my setup that dropping the pressures slightly eliminated this. But it may depend on other settings whether this will be a general fix or if it is in conjunction to other settings.Try with it to up the bump dampening(thats the last one).

Managed a time a tenth shy of yours shaggy, by reading your setup wrong. :dunce:

Went soft front suspension, left rear default.
Then went soft bump damping and left the rest of the damping default.

Turn 8 is critical I've found for a good time.

Thanks guys. Yeah I think I got turn 3 down pat, just brake as late as possible as was said, then back on to the throttle early. And Yeah I did find if I tried to coast, I'd go into a 4 wheel drift. Slightly disconcerting in a F1 car. :dopey:

As for the turn I was talking about, i guess it is T4.

I remedied it last night though. I normally run 35% traction control, but I just adjust it coming into T2 to 80% then back to 35% coming out of T6.

I am still having trouble getting under 1:31, but I haven't messed with the gearing or aero much as I've been fiddling with that first sector.
