I really don't want the formula rim, but it's the only open-wheel rim available now. I'll sell it for a discount once the generic F1 or licensed F1 comes out. So I'll be getting both wheel rims with it.

I can wait until I hear more concrete evidence about future rims in production before I will even think about pulling the trigger on a CSW. It could be a long ways off, but I still dont want to waste money on a Formula rim I wont be happy with when they unveil a generic or branded F1 rim. I will only be purchasing one rim for it.

Yep, has obviously different colour buttons but no rev lights as they wouldn't be supported anyways.
Great PR work...

I have liked to read the reviews so far on here and watching the videos on youtube. I plan to get this wheel sometime, I am in no hurry and want to read more user experiences as other people here on the board will get them.

Also I am not interested in the F1 wheel rim, and the BMW rim is a bit to expensive I think and I could manage with one with less buttons, and I am as many others here curious as to how the alcantara will wear.

For now I will be waiting for hopefully a cheaper rim that will be made available.

Please correct me if wrong, but hasn't Thomas himself said in this very thread that there will be cheaper rims than the Formula available?

I'm looking forward to a NASCAR inspired one for oval racing.

*Also, from the picture posted above, what are the odds that the replica F1 wheel is from a RedBull car?

I think the grips are plastic and not alcantara as well,

It's definitely not alcantara but I'm not sure what kind of plastic it is. The grips have a texture toward the inside but not the outside. I don't think the current plastic on the csr-e could be molded into a texture like that. It looks like the same exact plastic on the edges of the CSW rim. Could someone with a f1 csw compare the texture to the plastic on the csr-e.

Would of preferred some alcantara pads again though.

Wow at least the Elite formula rim doesnt have the silly controller style d-pad and xbox labeled buttons, It looks really good.

Hope not, The RB6 RB7 are the only F1 Cars where they're no Rev lights on the wheel itself, its hard mounted over the steering rack in the cockpit.

Am I the only one who doesn't want an "official licensed" wheel ? I feel like the BMW Rim cost more not because its a bigger wheel, but because it says bmw on the box, and its still not an exact replica.

Put the best designs of an F1 steering wheel together for the Generic and it would probably be better than an official wheel.

Yes, exactly right. There are a few liscensed F1 team wheels like Ferrari and others that I like, but doubtful they will become a CSW rim. I too feel like the generic F1 has the potential to be the best rim coming for the CSW. Take the best elements and save money by not having to pay licensing fees.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

Although there not the only cars, the RedBull Torro Rosso's also have the shift lights separate from the wheel. I know there owned by the same person, well company, so I suppose it's a RedBull thing to have them separate.

I also want something like this for the CSW (or it could say Momo, or Fanatec even instead of Lotus if the license is an issue) + an external button box for the electronics if needed...

+1 mikemav,

Also dont feel the need for a real carbon fiber rim, It would only be a little lighter but the cost would be super high. I'm not against the carbon look (not the look of the elite rim) but instead use some really good looking 3m vinyl.

Also, has anyone taken apart the CSW Formula / BMW Rim??

It's over 9000! likes that suggestion if it was up to me alone.

I really would love to see a small round F1 steering wheel. That one is just art though, it just looks that awesome. Way better then modern steering wheels in my opinion.

Anyway, if such a bare wheel is chosing it would require some changes to the mounting of the quick mount as well as the way of mounting a PCB in it. Afterall, without a PCB to communicate with, the Base will remain in hybernate mode.

I have not totally, but I had to at some point. It's a pretty straight forward design. You've got the wheel, behind the metal the PCB. Behind and through slots in the PCB the quick release and over that the cover(s).

I was thinking along the line of the riveted wood rim/ metal frame cobra wheel, but I think it has a 15" diameter. Which is pretty big. It may not be the most comfortable thing but would be pretty awesome also, pretty much any classic buttonless wheel would be awesome. Wasn't there some survey awhile back about what rims we thought should be available or am I thinking of something else?
