I really like this :) the more I drive the more I like it :) I tried Project Cars tonight and this wheel made it a completely different experience :) like a new sim :)
I'm in love :):)

The rattling will be felt more in this wheel than the csw because of the belt system used (toothed vs v-belt). I felt the same sort of rattling with my Porsche wheel and my T500RS as they use the same type of belt, although because the gearing is more direct in this wheel it may be alot more noticeable for some users. I would assume this belt type has to be used because of the plastic base, may not be rigid or strong enough to hold the belt tension necessary for a V-belt system (plus the extra cost factor of alloy pulleys).

Looks like a good wheel to me, if I were in the market I'd definatley pick one up, its the first next Gen multi platform wheel. Well done fanatec

I remember seeing an ISR review of the Elite vs TS-PC vs. CSW2. The Elite and TS-PC were tied, and the CSW2 was a step above. With the new improvements of this Elite I suppose it inches just ahead of the TS-PC now. And the CSW2.5 should be even further ahead of the bunch, which makes it honestly the most attractive choice for me right now. But the price of those wheel rims....come on Fanatec, give us a couple more budget choices. :)

I would love a budget F1/LMP/GT3 type rim. To be able to quickly switch between that and a round wheel for road cars would be pure bliss.

This makes me think the Elite is better than the TS-PC, I watched that video thinking to myself "i'll be amazed if he says the Fanatec is better". They are or were sponsored by TM. Of course it could be an honest review but they only seam completely honest to me when they are reviewing stuff from tiny companies.

You feel more vibrations because the game sends out those vibrations and the single belt drive does not filter it as much as you had on your wheels before. On a direct drive wheel you would feels even more of those vibrations.

The rattling is a different story. For Shaun it was a "very Little concern" but this is certainly a matter of taste.

Could anything be done to lessen or dampen the rattle?

If buying the CSL I'd be mounting to a Omega Pro or other firm custom rig.

I've tried watching other videos of the CSL and the rattle hasn't been that apparent though. Maybe the microphones are not really picking it up and you have to try it and see if you can live with it or not. Are some worse than others?

I've just spent a VERY happy hour racing Road America in a 1970's Lotus F1 car on PCars-CSL-PS4.

Apart from transducers in my seat, my rig is just about finished and OMG !!

F### me (am I allowed to write that?) this wheel is NICE !!!!!!! One of the AI cars hit me from the side and it felt REAL !!!!!
And that Fanatec gear shift IS REAL, full stop !!!!! There must be cars running about Germany with no gearboxes as Fanatic has pinched them to sell to us

Who cares about the rattle, stop being a big girl and crank the volume to 11 :eek: That fixes the rattle

PS, Cocomoto, Your T500 was a quality wheel a few years ago, but things have moved on. Drive round a long fast bend making small changes on your T500, then do the same on the CSL Elite. I can't for a second imagine you'd ever use your T500 again !!

How loud is the rattle depends on the setting of the force feedback. This is the worst case scenario with force feedback set to maximum:

I have it mounted on a sold diy rig and don't find the rattling bad at all. It make some noise when going off track etc but on normal driving I think it is pretty quiet

My CSW V2 makes a ton of noise on the FFB test too, especially without the quick release pin in, then the metal vibrates too but I've never heard it during gameplay and I dont play with weakened FFB to drive faster/easier. I think it's just a case of it vibrating so much anything loose is resonating too.

Yeah, we discussed it quite a bit at the time. If you remember ISR gave the win to the CSWv2, declared the CSL Elite and TS-PC almost a tie, but John then explained that he preferred the center feel on the Thrustmaster. All with their customary Thrustmaster merchandising (pile 'o boxes) on prominent display behind the presenter :)

I should note that John and Billy are both still making all their videos with the TS-PC Racer wheel, so they are keeping faith to TM appropriately. Make of that what you will.

I personally have been happy with my TM wheels (more so actually than my old Fanatec GT2 whose ergonomics were unfortunate due to the Porsche rim spoke thickness), and I'm sure the TS-PC and CSL Elite both get the job done fine. Thankfully now that both vendors offer full console support the market is once again wide open, which is great.

I'm still testing mine over PC, Xbox and PS4.

Varying results, some games suffer badly, others are ok.
I suppose at the end of the day it's down to how much you can put up with it.
It's still a shock to me coming from the V2 so if I can't get on with it I'll just sell on and buy either a second hand V2 or a new V2.5 and use on Xbox/PC.
I only bought it for GT Sport as I have cross platform titles on my PC of which I prefer.

Do you use your wheel on Forza? I tried the Apex demo on PC but it honestly had the worst FFB I have ever experienced in a sim, Horizon 3 is just as bad and none of the settings I changed seemed to help much, the completely dead wheel on traction loss was awful!

I even went and downloaded Grid Autosport and a number of other simcade games and despite them not having the best FFB they behaved as expected. Forza just felt broken but there don't seem to be a lot of complaints?

Forza FFB on the PC is dreadful so far, irrespective of which wheel (I use Apex and FH3 on my T300 and it's just as awful as you state).

The only good news is that they have finally hired a real wheel FFB guy for Forza Motorsport 7 and promised much more attention, so I'm hoping for the first time ever in the Forza franchise that the wheel doesn't feel like a second class Citizen in FM7. But only time will tell. I want to preorder FM7 ultimate edition for PC but if there's a chance of Apex quality FFB that would be a VERY expensive hour of play and disillusion....

Ok good, thought I was going mad as some people claimed it was good/ok, for me it was unndriveable unless you weren't pushing the car.

I've always played Forza and GT with a controller so I wouldn't mind doing so again as they aren't full sim but it will be good if they do fix it, only standard edition for me though.

Yeah I would imagine Forza Apex and Horizon 3 on PC aren't up to much with any wheel. I haven't been keeping up that much though. True test would be Forza 7.

For me PC is the big one and then GT Sport and fingers crossed CSL Elite in PC mode works well with Forza 7 on PC. I can't see myself buying a Xbox One/Scorpio and dedicated wheel or looking at other racers on PS4. They should fix the Forza PC version to work well with PC/PS4 wheels.

A smart new wheel for PC sims and the lush looking GT sport is what's getting me excited. I'll probably plump for the CSL with load cell pedals. I agree with Shaun Cole about the CSL pedals being the next G25 pedals. Great design by Fanatec.

Are you sure it's just the PC version? I also tried the wheel in Xbox mode and it was just as bad.

Sorry for any confusion. Not sure we're talking about the same thing. Are you saying Xbox One console is good in conjunction with a Fanatec wheel? I wouldn't know.

Apex PC was a wheel testing ground for MS on DX12 and HZ3 is a 30fps console game brought to PC by Playground games with T10 help, not something I'd expect to be any good with wheels despite a long list of support. Forza 7 on PC is the marker.

Sorry, talking about PC only but I used the wheel in PC mode and XB1 mode with the universal hub which is only detected in-game, in relation to you saying it was bad with PC/PS4 wheels, it was still bad with an XB1 wheel.

I've actually seen people say the PC Apex has better FFB feel than on Forza 6 XB1 which is why I've been wondering if mine is broken.

Hello there!

I am too thinking to buy a new wheel to replace my Logitech G25. Actually the noise is one of my primary concerns since we have a baby now and the only time I can play is during the night... which unfortunately can't do with my G25 - I think it makes too much noise.

Can a previous owner of a G25 and current owner of a Fanatec wheel make an estimated noise comparison? Also, although I can guess that much, I think handling-wise it will be ages ahead..

I can give you a comparison as my last wheel was a G29, same as G27 inside!

The PS4 CSL is ABOUT 30-40% less 'clunky'.

Of coarse it's very hard to give an exact measurement of noise as I never put my DB meter on any of these wheels, but the CSL is less noisy.

If you keep to the track, the wheel is silent, when going over the rumble strips, it's has a slight sound, very muffled and damped. The rattle only really kicks in if you leave the track, but nothing like the G27/29.

My G29 came off my exact rig I'm using now, it was removed last Thursday and replaced with the CSL. The CSL is a quantum leap from the G27, I can tell you!!

It's only slightly better because of a couple extra option the the advanced settings. It's still pretty rubish though

Hmm.. Are you saying that the PS4 elite wheel base with the P1 rim or universal hub isn't good with Forza 6 and horizon 3 on the xbox? (One of the primary reasons of getting the fanatec set. I also own a PS4 pro)

As in the force feedback isn't great?
I'm primarily using it on consoles as I don't own a PC.

There will be some sort of E3 announcement with new TM models so just holding off on purchasing for the moment.

Cheers
James

Otherwise the V2.5 is the one to go for sacrificing the PS4 compatibility :(

When will there be a V3 to be compatible with the PS4 and Xbox.

One can only dream!
