100 units. it's on their blog
I really dont understand the strategy behind it? € 950 is still below the retail price. It is just a matter of being patient and bidding 950 to get the wheel pre-official release with € 50,- discount. How will it work? Cant i just bid € 950 and be done with it?

The maximum auction price will be 999.95 which is the RRP. The auction will go up in increments (e.g. 10,-) and will stop at the RRP because at this point there is no advantage of the auction over the normal pre-order.

Prices will probably be higher in the beginning and will go down the more customers have placed their orders and demand will drop.

In each region there will be a certain amount of auctions (worldwide 100 units) which can go below 950 before we stop putting more auctions online.

I expect that there will be some amount of people who will be happy about a price between 950 and 999 and the longer the auctions go the lower the prices will be.

It would not surprise me if we see auctions go down to 500 or less if all demand is satisfied.

Thanks, there has been some misinformation spread in comments on social media and etc.

Looking at the pictures of Podium bases I'm wondering where's the power button. DD2 seems to come with a kill switch that has a remote power button but how do you power up the dd1 without that. From the psu..?

Thanks for doing this. Will there be a similar auction for the PS4 DD version?

If the Black Friday sales ate anything to go by the European auction will sell out in a couple of minutes again! The thirst for cheap Fanatec gear here is strong.

Thanks! So the $1M question, when is that puppy being released? :-) And to confirm the first batches of the PS4 DD1 will have the DD2 hardware, correct?

Thanks again!
Not sure yet. It could be but perhaps we just put it on sale once it is available.

And what will the price be for the PS4 version? Although, if I could get a DD1 for even close to $500, I would take it.

please excuse the RANT ... but ... I wanted to sim the PS4. But it seems that Fanatec don't want me too. Fanatec is putting up obstacles that mean I shouldn't go PS4.

The PS4 Podium option is listed on your website - but ... your not going to allow orders for it, or auctions, until December or so? Why then list it at all?

The price difference is quite minor between the Elite bundle for Xbox and the Elite bundle for the PS4, despite the PS4 having a better wheel. So the PS4 license is not all that costly.

So why not make the PS4 compatible DD1 available for auction now, or for order? And like the DD1 standard and the DD2, they ship when they ship? Why pick on PS4 wannabees?

And please make a PS4 option without the enforced F1 style wheel.

Why make PS4 users - who actually pay a lot less for their computer processing platform than do PC users (and Xbox is a bit more costly too than a PS4) - hence PS4 buyers are often price and value sensitive - why make just them have to buy a Podium wheel - and an F1 style one at that which they may not want to use? Look at Sim arrangements - the majority are not F1 style lie down setups. The most popular Sim game on PS4 is Gran Tursimo - which has few F1 style cars. GT4 players don't want their primary wheel to be an F1 wheel - since they drive lots of different style of cars that have a lot more than 180 degrees of turn and such cars don't have fixed grip limited turn F1 style wheels!!

Please give us an option to auction and/or to order the DD1 for PS4, as it is - without a compulsory F1style, Podium quality wheel!

And also, if your going to bundle a wheel, then please also bundle some V3 Clubsport pedals. A bundle should be a bundle!!! And please, include a circular wheel as an alternative wheel.

I now suspect that I for a Fanatec choice I would be better off to drop the PS4, and just go PC. Would that please Sony?

There is a simple answer to those questions.

We have a preliminary agreement with Sony which allows us to announce the new product but we can only announce all specs, pricing etc. once the final product has been fully approved both by Sony and F1.

A bundle with pedals is very likely and in future we might also offer a different steering wheel with it. But most major racing games have formula, LMP, DTM or GT3 cars in it and those cars use mostly formula type steering wheels.

Well please let them know that I am thinking of not using the PS4! If they made up their minds soon, then I could commit and wait. But if I don't know when or more importantly "if", then I may go with the DD1/DD2 and hence the PS4 won't work with that.

I know there are GT3 cars - but in GT versions including GT Sport, there are a lot of other cars. You can drive a GT car with a round wheel. But driving a Renault Megan (strangely a must have car in some on line races at the moment) and you can't drive GT style wheel efficiently. And there are heaps of cars which benefit by turning the wheel more than 180 degrees. I have no issues with offering the GT wheel - but if its compulsory, it is simply out of tune with what GT drivers need to have.

By adding the need to buy a conventional wheel as well as the GT wheel and wow ... you may as well buy a PC. A set of peddles, a GT Wheel, a round wheel, the license fees, the DD1 with PS4 chip ... the PC will be a cheaper choice and surely that is not what Sony would regard as sensible.

The Podium Racing Wheel for PS4 will be compatible to our full range of steering wheels. So if you prefer a round wheel you can easily swap wheels even during a game session.

Hello. you did not understand him! he wants to be immediately sold with the wheel gt. and do not spend money on another wheel.

Over 80% of Clubsport Wheel Base owners have 2 or more wheels. A lot have 3 or 4.
It is safe to assume that if you buy a wheel base which costs double then this rate will probably go up. Perhaps 90-95%.

Unfortunately we cannot please everyone. At least not from the beginning.

There is a work around for the DD1 & DD2 compatibility with PS4 called GIMX, search in YouTube or google it.

I’m currently using a Leo Bodnar SimSteering V2 (54) with GTS and it works perfectly so I see no reason for the Fanatec DD bases to not work as well.
You will need a computer (cheap windows tower or laptop) to connect all your racing gear and an adaptor you can build yourself or buy it at https://blog.gimx.fr/product/gimx-adapter/ For 30 Euro to emulate a G29. That way you can get the DD2 and still enjoy Gran Turismo Sport

I guess your saying that Fanatec should not be providing a DD solution for the PS4? Even if I did not have a games PC, which I have, I'd still want a DD drive if its properly supported. Fanatec seem to think its worthwhile too. I also think eventually DD will be standard everywhere. As soon as the electronic controls and software is mature, its cheaper to build than an indirect solution, plus IMO its less subject to wear.

I may go that way ... although its not the plug and play which appeals to me more. It seems anyway that there will be no auction for the PS4 solution. And the pricing may not come until its shipping, which means December I presume. I think I'll buy Assetto Corso for the PC, and then consider bidding on a DD1. And not bother with the PS4, although for someone with all Golds and who held a top world time for a few weeks on the PS3 driving a Lotus around a mountain track with GT6, and who raced on line with GT6 (even with crap gear), I really do feel let down by Fanatec's current attitude to PS4 enthusiasts.

I haven't played for a number of years ... I know something of race cars too, I owned a Formula 5000 once, a McLaren. I've bought most of the gear to play - PS4, games PC, Sim cockpit (that came today, not yet assembled although it won't take long at all), screen and sound, its going to sit in my home gym in between the rowing machine and the exercise bike. I don't feel like buying an Elite setup and then replacing it 5 months later. I like to keep my gear.

The impatience is great with this one...;) Fanatec does have the CSL-E for ps4 for now. If you cant wait till december or early 2019, you can buy it and sell the base when the Podium ps4 edition is available. Looking at the 2nd hand market they retain value quite good. If you dont like the F1 style wheel it will equally sell well second hand. And I am pretty sure there are future DD1 and DD2 pc owners who want that F1 branded wheel, so you might even make a profit if the wheel rim is exclusive for this set.

P.S: you can keep the pedals, shifter and even the P1 ps4 rim (or other rim) if you buy the bundle and just sell the base. all periperals you buy now will be compatible with the podium.

edit: added P.S

It is not supported for Bodnar, OSW or Accuforce. There is no guarantee that it will work for Fanatec direct drive wheels.
If it uses the same firmware/software as the CSW and CSL it might be compatible so there is some hope. It really depends on the new Fanatec software suite.

There is hope but no guarantee. It could rely on a new firmware that isn't supported. I asked Collective Minds about it but they conveniently ignored that part of my question.

either way i have no clue why you would want to spend $1000-1500 on a direct drive wheel for JUST gran turismo on a console that cost $300-400. if you burning that kind of money on sim racing, why on earth would you not racing on pc.

Yes It is impossible to predict. I have spoken with them too. They have had to engineer compatibity mostly the, selves with a small team. Almost no hardware manufacturer out there didnt want anything to do with them. They all had to either buy the hardware themselves or have someone from the community help out. So I am not sure how Fanatec views the drivehub at the moment...
