Well... in 7 months, I should be able to jump on a full replacement to my CSR and CSR pedals. For the moment I am setting $50 aside each week. My goal is $1400. That should be enough for a DD1, FM Uni-hub, CSP V3, CSS, CS Clamp, CSS clamp, and CSP tuning kit...

7 months should be in March. Its gonna be a hell of a self Birthday gift.

Now, I will be paying close attention to reviews and owners comments. Hopefully I will not be disappointed about the new wheels.

PS, dont tell the Mrs. about the plan. LOL.

BIG FAT EDIT BELOW!

Edit: the Wheelbase and a FM Uni-Hub would be $1400 alone. According to the configurator I need to clear $2300 in order to get everything... Sigh.

I could have sworn that I had a $1400 build? That must have been using one of the belt driven wheels.
(EDIT 2: Yup. CSW, and the BMW rim. Everything else stayed the same.)

The plan has changed to Next Year about this time @ $50 every week. I should be able to pocket more than $50 each week, but if I get too greedy then the wife will be on to me. LOL.

How will you smuggle all those toys in the house without your wife noticing?

Easy, follow the package with the tracking number then the day of delivery wife all of a sudden gets a gift for a day at the spa

(note:these were two separate posts merged by a moderator,Fanatec liked the post about Club Sport Direct Drive Wheel before that)

But what if the Club Sport DD wheel is more expensive, since all the Fanatec stuff with the Club Sport tag are always more expensive

If I remember correctly, the Podium line is supposed to be a higher product family than the Club Sport products. Let's just say Fanatec were to make a Podium Shifter. I'd fully expect it to be something along the lines of that Quaife 6 speed shifter... Basically actual manual transmission linkage. So the idea of a CS DD wheelbase would mean it would possibly be less expensive than the Podium bases.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong though.

That really doesn't mean much. Fanatec could just like the idea, but it doesn't mean the company will follow through on it.

Back to the $2300 plan... For now. ;)

Fanatec has said a million billion trillion times that Podium is their highest end product range.

The likelihood of them making a Club Sport DD base is extremely low, makes no sense, but who knows. If they do it definitely won't be any time soon I would guess. I could eventually see them moving their entire product range to direct drive if Podium is successful as they will be in a unique position compared to anyone else in the market.

Actually in regards to a club sport DD, Thomas has already stated in the iracing forums that this is planned. He made no comments on what the specs would be but you would have to assume with the new 7-10nm osw kits that it would be aimed at that target.

As for this weekends testing, at last I heard I believe a couple of very knowledgeable people regarding DD wheels from the iracing forums would be attending. I am waiting to see their opinions in regards to the DD2. I have pre ordered a DD2, but if what I read from those guys say it is still a long way off the others I will cancel and purchase an OSW kit instead.

Also Thomas has said on the iracing forum that a few of the new podium wheels will be revealed at this weekends test, so that should be interesting as well.

Really looking forward to seeing what comes out of the weekend ahead.

"It... won't be any time soon..."
There is one of the rubs about a CSDD wheelbase. Although I really like the idea of a CS base with a 7 - 10nm motor, that's going to be a few years out. At least 3. Although, thinking about it, piecing my ultimate setup together would be an easier sell than $2000 worth of sim gear appearing all at once. So by the time I need to replace the wheelbase due to real mechanical issues, the CSDD may be in the teasing phase at Fanatec. You know how they do.

"...their entire product range to direct drive..."
Thinking about this statement, I feel that you are 100% correct with that assumption. I can see the lower spec wheelbases ditching the Podium's infinite rotation though. Not because of the motors, but because Fanatec would probably just swap the CSW's belt system with a DD motor and keep the electronics the same. Of course they'd redesign the wheel's housing too. No need to have such a bulky base when the motor will take up a lot less space.
I'd be curious about what a CSL grade Direct Drive wheel would be though. 3nm? Would that even be worth the effort?

I would say by the end of next year,at worst case no more than two years.

The current CSL Elite is 6Nm so it's not logical to do it weaker. Also CSL Elite PS4 is only one year old and with very good sales so I do not expect to be replaced in the next few years.

You are the second person who confirms this.👍
there is a clubsport dd wheel coming in the future. thomas said so on iracing forums

I'm going to say it again, I feel terrible that I can't go to the @Fanatec... event tomorrow. I have no idea if I'm allowed to say this but I'm invited, which makes it even more unfortunately. My father is hurt and can't walk properly, so I have to stay at home to be sure he won't fall again and hurts himself even more.

They probably invited everyone in this thread. I live in driving distance, but I work in weekends so it is a nogo for me too.
I wish your father a fast recovery!

@Fanatec... very kindly invited me, but it's quite a trip from Toronto! ;)

As it turns out, I would've had to cancel anyway due to some unforeseen events this weekend. But I'm very excited about what will be shown...

Will there be anyone representing GTplanet going there? Would be nice to have someone cover the event.

So where are the news it’s already past 6pm over there in Germany
The event is tomorrow, but that's also interesting:

Isn't the event tomorrow, 25th?

I was under the impression that it was today the 24th, sorry my bad if not.

Bundles probably includes the formula black or carbon to play F1 2018, or hopefully the PS4 podium wheel since that includes the new formula rim

Yeah, just checked the iracing post and it is tomorrow, move along nothin to see here just a guy craving info, lol

If you are a Fanatec fanboy don’t watch the Malone stream videos, first after testing the wheels against the AccuForce and OSW he was calling the DDs buttery smooth, then he tried to stream and wasted almost half an hour trying to get the wheel to work in iracing.
He said he wouldn’t upgrade his CSW V2 to the DD at the moment, he hated also the 1.5 shifter gating and the CS V3 pedals.

It was super funny when he tried the wheel at 100%, those oscillations almost shook off the whole rig apart along with his arms.
