My Podium Racing Wheel arrived a week ago, but has been withheld at customs storage ever since, due to an error which happened when I attempted to pay the VAT. When I tried I got an error message, so I tried again, then again, a total of 4 times. It was after that I found out the amount had been withdrawn from my account 4 times! Here in Norway the VAT is 25% and in addition to the racing wheel I also purchased the CSL LC pedals and some other stuff, so quite a significant amount got taken there. Because of that error the payment wasn't registered at customs as having come from me, so it's a process to get it fixed. Oh, the sweet frustration...

Hopefully it'll get here tomorrow.

Careful with your power supply guys. Below is a link to a German forum where from a pretty poor google translate it sound like his power supply started smoking. Maybe some German speakers could give a better translation. https://forum.virtualracing.org/sho...E-infothread?p=2463852&viewfull=1#post2463852

Be aware that the manual does say to plug the PSU into the wheel base before the electrical socket. But I'm sure this is just a routine failure of a PSU which does happen.
Thomas replied in that thread.

Hello Daniel,

I give you completely right. Although all power supplies get a burn in test for at least 2 hours, this just should not happen.

It is the first case so far and we will examine the power supply first. If that happens again then that is a reason to stop the delivery.

I am very sorry for the impertinence and I am glad that did not happen anymore.

Hope with the replacement power supply, it is finally on the track and wish you much fun with it.

Just received my Podium DD1 - I went to Fanatec NA downloads and only saw driver for PC.

Is there any firmware update needed or good to go for XBOX One with my Mclaren GT3 wheel?

It is recommended that you update the firmware which has to be done via a pc or laptop.

Got my DD1 this morning along with my 2028 f1 rim!

The only problem is, despite the fact that my F1-gt says it is drilled for fanatec wheels, it has neither the triangle pattern or their square pattern. I've downloaded the template and printed it, but I dont have the equipment to drill out the wheel plate. :(

Wow you got the wheel from 9 years in the future

There seems to be another problem:

"Anyone else with DD1/2 have it that the base does not seem to connect to rims ?

I tried 3 that all work with CSW v2.5 but that and pedals/handbrake/shifter do not seem to be communicating with the base

Thanks, I didn't realize the driver included the firmware updates (it's been a while - lol)

Updated the wheel base and motor firmware then did the recommended motor sensor calibration - all good!

Testing out DD1 with Forza

Ahh this is so exciting FedEx is delivering my DD1 one day ahead of schedule... I'll be able to set it up tomorrow after work. :)

Do we know when Fanatec's new Podium software is scheduled to launch?

I think that the vibration that I feel is from the cooling fan because I still can feel it if I turn off the FFB (it is really faint and not noticeable while driving. just don't know if it is normal or it is some kind of issue manifesting).

The wheelbase is cold fan goes between 650-1050 rpm.
Only thing that is slightly noisy power brick.
After playing it buzzes / fan spins (not loud but still) until I unplug it.

Is every unit the same ? (Wheel is awesome but everything is new and I don't know what is the "standard")
@DomB_Fanatec is that normal or should I worry for the future if it intensifies?

Note: When a Fanatec steering wheel with Simplified Quick Release is used on a Podium Wheel Base, the torque will automatically reduce to the level of the ClubSport Wheel Base V2.5.

didnt quite understand this.
i have the club sport uni hub, so do i need to change the quick release from the club sport to the podium one?
thanks

Simplified quick release only on CSL series steering rims , Universal hub QR is clubsport series , so it won’t reduce torque

Just received my tracking number, hopefully it will be here by tomorrow because Wednesday is a holiday here in Belgium.
Excited!!!

Same here, sorta. Wednesday happens to be my anniversary... Maybe i'll at least have a chance to remove the packaging and get a look at her... :mischievous:

is this as far as it goes on the shaft?
if so my static sifters are not going to work
I cannot check it myself yet but what I see is that the steering wheel is mounted correct with about half of the black rubber visible and then "lock it" with the golden turning ring. And yes then it seems the static shifter is too far away.
I'm sure official Fanatec support and/or another expert will come with a convincing explanation. They must have tested it?

No, the black bit of the wheel should push right up against the collar of the silver shaft. You should then screw the gold nut all the way in the opposite direction to how it is in your photo to ensure the rubber gaskets seals correctly. As in the pic below.

The static shifter paddles are included in the 'accessories' section of the DD1 product page on the Fanatec website so they expect them to be usable on the wheel.

@DomB_Fanatec any update on when us Aussie’s can expect our DD1/2’s to ship.

I get we are at the bottom end of the world and easily forgotten but I would have hoped ours would have started shipping out of our warehouse today as it is the 30th of April.

i gave it a harder push than i wouldve liked. now you can just see a small amount of the black rubber. and i could feel it hit a stop .
and the set screw lines up.

my static sifter is a good 5in reach, i have to move my hand to reach it. i hope it willbe an easy return
thanks for the tips

Another quick tip. If you pull the quick release mechanism back when your are fitting the steering wheel onto the shaft it makes it easier. Still requires a little bit of force however.

Just noticed this, the DD2 does not have Fanatec on the side top like the PS4 version and DD1. I saw it on the web a while back but thought it would be on all the production models.
I would have thought Fanatec would have had that prominently displayed on their top end model. Seem a little "NAKED" without it...

So. . .

After receiving my DD1 yesterday, I had found out that my wheel plate on the next level F1GT rig did not come drilled for fanatec wheel bases as advertised.

I was able to get the wheel plate drilled out, though i had to file the holes to get the bolts to line up properly.

After finally getting the DD1 mounted, cable management finished and everything powered up/updated, I hop into f1 2018.

I got the wheel setup as described by fanatec, the game set up for FFB as described by fanatec, but I was getting 50% throttle and brake without any input by me.

Turns out I needed to have the dd1 in CSW v2.5 compatibility mode. . .

Lots to learn with this wheel, especially coming from the extremely simple t300

Yeah there's gonna be an interval of time where it's a bit harder to get everything out of the DD's as game developers optimize for them at various rates. Like as for Gran Turismo sport you have to put the wheel in CSL compatibility mode, I can't imagine that means the wheel gets optimal input.

The more serious sims such as iRacing, rFactor 2 and Raceroom I imagine are better optimized as they've had direct drive's for a good while now. Looking forward to the video where they talk about the implementation game devs make.
