This year's entries for PWC TC-A/TC-B:

Honda Civic Si
Mazda MX-5
KIA Forte Koup
Honda Fit
Ford Fiesta
Mini Cooper
Fiat 500

I'm unemployed for the next three days (starting back to my old job on Friday) so I'll have plenty of time to do some testing. I'll get some of these spec'd out and see what I come up with. If you see my room open, feel free to join. 👍

On a random note, in case you didn't know there's a new bug effecting multi monitors. I've figured out a work around to get them functioning online, but it isn't 100% perfect. I could not stop laughing at this!!

Edit: Here's some of the specs for the Pirelli World Challenge. It looks like, to some extent, they do allow some upgrades like minor engine tuning, weight reduction and upgraded brakes, so adding those racing parts to our cars won't be too far out of line. I think if we kinda combine the specs/regs and car lists from TC-A and TC-B we could have a really good field of cars. It even mentions how older cars are now eligible so we could go back a few seasons to find some other cars we could use. http://www.world-challenge.com/pirelli-world-challenge-car-facts.html

And here are the cars.

Not sure how they figured a Mazda eunous/MX-5/miata/whatever (damn I'm sick of how many names that thing got) was a touring car :odd:.

Rest of the field looks OK.

I guess TC is just being used as a generic term, hatchbacks aren't touring cars either. The Miata would likely be my preferred choice of the group, but adding the FR-S and a BMW 1 series would make for a good mix of FR's and FF's. We could use the Civic, Focus and Mini for FF's.

I think Miata's FR-S'sesese and a BMW-1 series will be great additions and get more people interested.

I'm watching a TC class race from this year, there is also an RX-8 and a VW GTI in the field so those could be added too.

As far as lap times go, I had a hard time finding data on what times the TC classes were setting. I did find this onboard from Shea Holbrook's Civic at Laguna:

Cuts off before the end of the lap! But it looks like a 1:41 is about the target time. Looking at the mid-corner speeds, SH or SM tyres would be a good match.

@BrandonW77 I'll probably join you later to do some testing. 👍

GT6 cars may or may not be close to the real-world lap time. I'm not too concerned about being that precise, I'll just spec the cars out in a way that stays fairly true to the real series (it will include adjustable suspension and transmission, but I won't be adjusting anything) and whatever the lap time/top speed happens to be, that's what I'll base my targets off of.

I have to mow and do a couple quick chores, should be on around 3-3:30 EDT.

Should have a room up in about 10-15 minutes. If anyone wants to help test grab any premium MX5, BMW Z4, RX8, FR-S/BRZ, Civic, Focus, Fit, Fiesta (do we have one?), Mini (modern), or VW GTI. To start, put a square Gran Turismo number plate on, all the intake/exhaust parts, stage 2 weight reduction (with windows and CF bonnet), racing suspension and transmission, chassis reinforcement, front aero bits, and SH tires, we'll see where that gets us. I want to be in the 240-250hp range hopefully, but not sure what power those parts will add. We will tweak as necessary.

Edit: and racing brakes too

I think I'm going to create a group conversation so we can discuss things there and get some detailed ideas and tests going. If you're interested in being part of the conversation let me know. I'll probably be on later this afternoon for some more testing.

interrested in testing and beeing part of the conversation 👍

Can put my name in there too?
If you're tinkering this afternoon, let me know and I should be able to jump on. Been ages since I have played though!

I might have to ask you to change that avatar first. :P J/k

I doubt I'll get around to it today but I'll try to get a conversation going tomorrow so we can hammer out some details and get a test race planned. 👍

hi guys, just got back from hols and thought i'd see what my one notification was for!!!

looks like a lot has been discussed, i'll be happy to go with whatever the flow is, if you want to include me in on the conv @BrandonW77 i'll gladly help out with thoughts, testing etc.

For now, my bed is calling its been a long drive. Catch you online soon.

Hobbsy out

I actually managed to kick the kids off the PS3 and have a run around Grand Valley East - I picked up a couple of the cars mentioned previously and found they were great fun to drive in this power range.

A fully loaded Cappy (not the race car) was too slow :(

So what's happening then, this thread has been very quiet as late, and I've not really caught anyone online recently either?

I feel like I've fallen out the boat! ;)

Is there anything planned, or are we just having a dry spell?

'tis the summer holidays here. I expect people will be away or busy elsewhere.
Or maybe everyone was watching the Commonwealth Games! :)

I think amar and B did some testing on saturday. I was in 500PP Club, finally could finish a race with them as nothing seemed planned here...

Actually, I am waiting for a carlist to choose from. Hoping something sweet might appear :embarrassed:

Sorry guys, I was kind of on a mini-vacation last week and wasn't around the computer or PS3 much then or over the weekend.

Full disclosure: I've never hosted parity racing, only participated, so I'm trying to get a grasp for what's going to be needed, what the pitfalls are, and unforeseen things I need to be aware of. I have been doing a lot of testing to see if my thoughts are going to work as I've planned them to and so far everything is working out. There are dozens of ways we can do this, some more involved than others. I like things to be simple so I'm trying to find a happy medium that doesn't require too much work from us.

I think I have everything needed to get an official test race together soon. The car list will be the premium versions of the Miata, FRS/BRZ, RX-8, Focus, Fit, Civic, 500 Abarth, Mini and GTI. Tires will be SH or SM, slower drivers can opt for the SM to help their cornering speeds (although I had to use SM's on the Fit to get it up to speed). The track is Laguna Seca and the targets are 1:44.00 and 110mph/177kph. If you guys want to go ahead and get some of those cars dialed in then we can work on a date for the test race (I'm thinking maybe this Sunday or next Sunday, afternoon EDT).

Let me know if there are any questions and if Sunday's work for you or not and we'll get something going.

Sundays should be good for me.

This is what I've wanted to see. Cars and times/speeds now I'm excited. So aero parts are a go @BrandonW77

For this batch I'd prefer no aero parts since it's "inspired by" the Pirelli World Challenge TC classes which don't use aero bits and the cars are very close to stock. The targets were set with the cars basically in their stock form, a few needed some minor power parts added to get them up to target but nothing extreme (maybe stage 1 engine tuning or a turbo).

Since tuning is unlimited you could add whatever you want but if you put too much power/weight reduction on you're going to have a hard time meeting the targets. My thinking is that if the targets are set with nearly stock cars it will make it easier for someone to just pop in and join up without a bunch of prior preparation. I did some testing with more parts added but it quickly got complicated trying to explain to people how to get their car up to spec. So at least for the first test I'm going to keep things simple so we can all get up to speed quickly.

Also, I'd prefer for everyone to use the square number plate with Gran Turismo across the top. There's no logical reason for this other than I'd like the cars to all look like they're part of a sanctioned series. :P
