Well, I don't think I'll be using the Civic after all. Just did some quick practice, first flying lap: 1:43.6. :indiff: Added 40 kg, after 2 laps: 1:43.6. :irked: Then a blank BSOD and triple-beep restart, and didn't feel like testing more after that. Not really interested in adding more weight, and I'm not into restricting power (especially as the Civic is exactly on target for top end.)

Drat, and I really liked the Civic too! But I like the MX-5 even more, so I'll go with that and/or the Golf I guess (the Focus is basically the same performance as the Civic, albeit in a less nice to drive form, so I'd have to throttle it back as well.)

I'm not quite sure why you guys are against restricting the power a wee bit, it's a very valuable tool for parity racing. Adding weight/removing power are the easiest ways to fine tune a few tenths/mph out of your times. I could understand not wanting to cut 20% out of the engine as that would change the driving characteristics but a few percent reduction doesn't change it's character. But, that's also why I made sure to have plenty of cars to choose from so everyone can find what they want. 👍

In the case of the Civic, it's because it's in stock form, exactly the right speed on the straight, and I don't feel like altering it below those specs very much. If I had tuned it up a bit and found I was too fast, I would have no problem limiting it a bit. That might not make much sense but that's just my feelings about it.

I probably would have tried a tiny bit of limiting and a little more weight, but having the gorram PS3 crash on me 20 minutes after firing it up put me in a curmudgeonly frame of mind. ;)

Wee bit of limitter is fine as last option for sure. But only when every other option fails :)

I am enjoying the Abarth 500 a lot. I might try a stock-ish Civic as well as an option. I think I am about a sec or so slower than amar so maybe just some susp work might bring me to target...

Fair enough. I wasn't criticizing, just trying to understand the reasoning and convey that it can be a valuable tool. When I did parity before, if I had to drop more than 10% off the car I would give up and try a different car. More than 10% and the torque curve got really screwy and the car started to feel different. And sometimes taking as little as 5% off the power would actually make the car a bit faster. :banghead:

I really hope you don't do this this coming weekend because I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday.

I was planning to, but we can do it again next Sunday at a different track. We'll probably learn some things the first time around that we'll want to adjust and test. In my experience so far, if you get the cars dialed in at one track they should still be very close at most other tracks (except the oddballs like Monza or Le Sarthe) so it shouldn't take much prep to get them ready for the second round.

Okay well that's fine then. I'll be back on Thursday. I'll be checking this thread while I'm gone so tell me how it goes.

Well I chose my car...

BRZ, didn't do too much to it. I got 1:44.46 on SH tires.

Things I added:
Suspension
Brakes
Custom transmission
Carbon drive shaft
Triple plate
Hood and glass

Is there something I wasn't suppose to do or not allowed? Let me know.

As long as you didn't put a big wang on the back, I'm happy! :P

Well then I will have to put those on and I'm pretty sure a loss of 5 kgs won't improve my lap times however if it somehow does I could always add 5 kgs ballast weight.

I did the body color. But if there's a proper way of doing this, then I can donate my car back to PD (sell it) and redo another.

And my top speed was 108pmh. Forgot to mention that.

Any way is proper. You can put the black hood, body color hood, or leave the regular hood. There really aren't any restrictions, other than I'd prefer nobody put a big spoiler on it. 👍

@BrandonW77 did you get an good pics from the wacky racing we did the other night!

I stayed on and made a few of my own, so if you like I can send them over the pond (somehow!)

I was trying to find shots which emphasized how close the racing could be!

This is Parity!.jpg

I just dialed in the Mazda MX5 (Roadster RS 07). Best lap at 1:44:3, top speed 178kph.
Parts added:
SH Tyres
Race suspension
Six speed trans
Triple clutch
Carbon prop shaft
Sports computer
Intake
Stage 1 weight/windows
Carbon bonnet

That's alot, too much perhaps?

That's a brilliant photo! If you want to PM me some of them I'm sure I could extract what I want. I have a slow day at work today so I could possibly whip up a nice graphic. Our first race will be private so we can sort some things out but for the second race I might make a thread in the Spot Race forum to maybe attract some others. 👍

B, I'm sensing you ain't a "wingman". :lol::lol:

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. For this race, because I'm trying to somewhat recreate a real series that doesn't use wings I'd prefer none of us use them.

Sounds good to me. I don't care what parts you use as long as you hit the targets and it appears you're right where you need to be. Because of the difference in skill levels everyone will be using slightly different setups, some will need more parts than others. But as long as we're all within a couple tenths and a couple mph/kph then the parity will be good and the racing will be intense. 👍

So with the mini I got a 1:44.087 and 109mph
Using sm tires, stage 1 engine tuning and an LSD (I did not touch the settings on the LSD however)

This may turn out to be a great practice race with all these numbers coming in.

Is there an official time on Sunday yet??

I'm thinking either 4 or 5pm EDT as I know that slot works for most of our across the pond friends. Either one should work for me. Which one is best for you guys? I figure we'll do a couple 10 minute races and then a 20 minute race, that gives us a couple breaks to make any minor tweaks to our cars so the 20 minute race should have a really balanced field.

What kind of tire wear are we using? Because some of us maybe using sm tires. I just want to know even though I won't be home for the race.

Any time is fine by me.

So I had a few more stabs at making the Civic come in on time. Upped the ballast to 60kg. Ran a 43.1. :odd: Ok, 100kg! ... 43.6. Finally, 95% power and 100kg put it at a 44 flat, but speed was down to 107/108 and it just wasn't the same car anymore.

Not sure yet. When we did it in GT5 I believe tire wear was turned off because some cars would wear tires out more quickly than others and could cause performance gaps. I don't want to be that extreme so I'll probably put it on Normal.

I'm undecided on slipstream too. I presume most people want it on Real but using Weak could help balance out any minor speed discrepancies, and with all the cars doing the same lap time and top speed overtaking it could make overtaking nearly impossible with Real slipstream. So I'm leaning towards Weak, which is still pretty weak and it's still difficult to complete an overtake, but not impossible. (I'm really not a fan of the Real slipstream after they weakened it a few updates back, it's basically made it so there's no slipstream and now you can only overtake if someone makes a mistake.)
