Thank you for the video, made my mind up now...đź‘Ž

We`ve been totally spoilt with the gt games I think, nothing else seems good enough, well for me anyway.

Damn, after seeing the videos, I'm worried abot that supposed gameplay video of the nascar game since I'm thinking that's not what it'll look like at all.

I think this was just a game to fufill their contract with System 3 so they really didn't put much effort into it.

I cannot understand why you all think it is that bad. Ok it's no GT that is for sure. But for 15 Euro's I think it's a good one. At least untill some other race game is released in November.

Eutechnyx is mentioned at the start screen btw.

Priced well but doesn't look like what I was expecting after Chandra Nair's comments on the PS blog

For example:

Same here. Don’t get me wrong; I still love proper arcade racers/car action games such as Burnout but I don’t really enjoy the proper racing games that opt for ‘mainstream’ handling

Anyway I started downloading the 1 hour trial.

Eutechnyx sims are harder to get use to then GT games... Atleast in my experience if youre a GT veteren than these physics will be hard to get use to since weight transfer is modelled well and it's VERY noticeable. You really have to watch out when you press the throttle and such. Graphics wise its not up to par with GT games, but thats no matter for me since physics is usually number one for me... If they are good, the game/sim is good.

Ferrari challenge = Supercar challenge = Race experience

System 3 have to be the laziest games producer to have ever existed. They're an embarrassment frankly, and why people continue to spend money with them is beyond me. Atleast this title will finally be their death.

I didn't know them, LOL

I knew it couldn't be like that awesome trailer but didn't expect such a **** (what Joie de vivre! said...), these guys are thugs đź‘Ž

The worst of it all is that - though it'll be produced by Activision - my hopes about Nascar 2011 got a big blow :(

The handling is a little arcadey but mixed with sim. Hard to describe but easy to pick up.
Ferrari Challenge is essentially the Forza code tweaked a bit, so it's good but not great. It even performs a save at the start of the game like Forza does. What I can't stand are the driver views. I haven't tried a cockpit view yet which was like the way I see the road, so I'm stuck with chase cam. On FC, I couldn't take a medium turn properly save for sheer luck, and I often banged into the wall on Monza, the only track in any game I've ever struggled so much on.

For 15 Euros, I'd say it's a decent price, but then I got used to Forza.

you should not worry this was done with a 3 year old engine ;) nascar is with a new one so u cant even compare

I agree if you say Ferrari Challenge = The Race Experience but Supercar Challenge is at least Ferrari Challenge 1.5. It has some worthwhile improvements if you don't mind the awkward A.I..

Please explain. I can't see any connection between Turn10 and Eutechnyx.

(disclaimer to keep this post clearly within the AUP rules: I'm speculating here, all reasoning comes from all the things I read in various places and from all I heard inside the community of veteran FC and SCC players)

Okay ... first, I think SYSTEM3 is trying nothing more than to extract more milk from an old cow, and my best guess is that they had a license to produce a second "Ferrari" game until the end of 2010. Since they didn't do their job (producing a new game, paying a developer to create it) they picked an old game (Ferrari Challenge), rebadged it, included in it all they had so far (DLC packs and the Italia) and released it AGAIN with a different name, a budget price and as a PSN title.

I don't think this pleased eutechnyx, as original FC devs, because meanwhile they moved on to a bigger and to greater challenges and therefore don't appreciate seeing their name associated to a 2010 release of a game they developed YEARS ago (on a very tight budget), and it is obvious that eutechnyx tried to dissociate themselves from all of this. Check this post:

That said, IF this "new" game is FC, I'd say that it is by no means a BAD game. IN any case, SCC is much better than FC and it is a game that can also be bought nowadays for a very nice low price. It also has ALL FC had, plus a lot more (and a few epic non-Ferrari cars, like the Vette C6R as an example).

Now, dismissing these games, and eutechnyx, as rubbish, is ... rubbish!

In case of doubt about the quality of the eutechnyx "previous generation" games, here's a clip from SCC online, featuring a epic battle at Monza between two Le Mans classic Ferraris (512M model). No bad game could provide such a battle, at Monza, in the rain, online, without lag ... in a PS3 private lobby.

(another disclaimer: not my clip, but I do show up in it, driving that beautiful white prototype :D )

Thanks Hun200kmh, glad to know only System3 are the bad guys. đź‘Ť

Not sure about Psn Europe Store guys, I guess now they'd say they didn't know, pffft... đź‘Ž

So I got around to playing it today and overall "Meh", it comes across (after the intro) as a budget title in most aspects, given the price it is. The physics are better than I expected actually and better than that video in the last page seems (camera viewpoint makes it look worse) but not good enough to win me over.

Owners of the original 2008 Ferrari Challenge game can get a special "loyalty" discount when purchasing Ferrari the Race Experience online. It is a bit tricky (you have to find your original game, count some words in the manual and then enter them in the form..), but it is not that complicated. It will lower the price for additional 15%.

Here are the details:

Owners of the previous game, Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli (PS3), are entitled to a Loyalty Reward discount, which can be applied for by visiting our Loyalty Reward Scheme website at:

http://loyalty.system3.com

I haven't played FRE but I have SCC and I'd say SCC because its basically the same but with different cars othr than all Ferrari.

Any news of clutch support? I wouldn't mind buying the game just to get FC with a working clutch.

EDIT: I found the answer myself.
The game fully supports the G25 (with the exception of the clutch)as well as the main Thrustmaster wheels.
Looks like I won't buy the game. Too bad since I really wanted something to do until GT5. Can it really be that hard to implement?

Look in the direction of NFS: Shift...

I bought it.And it's a big mistake.
Even Shift looks like God compared to this...
Forza 3 looks like God compared to Shift,
and GT5 is beyond imagination...

I played the trial version earlier and quite enjoyed it, definitely not bad for GBP11.99. Nice review Robin but there are tons of Ferraris missing from the line-up, unless they are unlockable, and this ruined it a little for me. Where is the 512BB? That's even made it into GT5.

Anyway aside from that, the presentation is really basic, and the tracks are a little lacklustre to look at (even the "themed" ones like Riviera offer little variation) but the driving experience itself I found pretty satisfying, and less tortoise-and-hare than most racing games (including previous GTs)

There was something cool about the sound of the Daytona, even though it doesn't exactly have the tightest steering ever! But it felt pretty rewarding to overtake the competitors.

Overall not bad at all, and I find it a little mystifying that people can go nuts over NFS:Shift and the recent Hot Pursuit demo (now THAT was a tedious experience) but then totally dismiss this. Different strokes for different folks I guess :)

Finally downloaded this, I still think it's pretty solid and well worth the price. What it lacks in presentation it makes up for with the physics and other attention to detail:

Pros: Genuinely challenging game, makes you work hard, good physics (some of the cars you really have to wrestle with), nice engine sounds, nice wet race and rain effects, very customisable in terms of assists

Cons: General presentation (menus etc), trackside detail (a little simple and lacking in variety but car detail didn't seem bad at all), variety/longevity of events, harsh qualifying (or was that just me?), AI cars lacking intelligence at times, strange points system (seems to use an average over 2 races per location?), occasional SFX dropout, occasional framerate slowdown (though infrequent)

Overall, not bad at all, tiding me over nicely along with an old copy of Dirt (got my PS3 very recently) and I think when I have played GT5 to death, then played it some more, I will come back to this, and probably get Supercars Challenge also :)

To be honest it's not that bad when you take the price into consideration. If you can look past the terrible graphics and sound, the game itself is ok. Can't really expect much more from a ÂŁ12 game.

I found the SFX to be pretty good, apart from the kinda OTT exhaust pop/backfiring, and occasional drop out of the engine sound when a lot was going on. Also don't agree that the graphics are "terrible", though not on a par with GT, Forza etc. And the more I play it, the more I get used to the physics and can anticipate the corners, often throwing the tail out a little to scoosh around them.

Whilst personally I use chase cam in most games, this is one of the few games where I would strongly recommend the view (and the "furthest away" view at that) to anyone else...it does make it look a little arcadey but you need to judge the corners so far in advance, it gives a definite advantage. No unrealistically late braking here!
