Last race at Suzuka was great. no so for me, but fun in any way.

For me it was my best Qual since the start of the season, P2 can you imagine how excited I was, hehe:D

I knew that under wet conditions, I would not stand a chance against some rain dancers, so I was betting on a last flawless lap, to win or lose everything.

So I was excited to start in P2, knowing that there would be a huge pressure form the pilots behind me, so after 2 pace laps my tires were pretty cold, so the race starts and I am a second behind Chris, I see him taking the dust, and trying to avoid doing the same, I do it even worse. Off track and behind the horde, so my great Qual resulted in a disaster. But no worries I say, as the race just started, and had 85 minutes to go. My beginning of the race was really not great, but after a few laps I was able to get in a good pace. Had a few good laps with Karsten and was able to overtake him due that I had better tires I guess. But the rain arrived earlier than expected, up to 20% it was still manageable, but suddenly on the straight at the start line it became suddenly an ice track. And apparently I was not the only one spinning on that particular location. In the rain Karten and Vic were able to pass me easily. Once above 70% wet, I had difficulties to control the vehicle, and took some damage from collisions with the walls. Oh boy what was I happy that 16 minutes from the end, the rain was over.

The weather is much better now, dry – rain –dry, really great. Logic, thank you for all your test work!👍

Congrats to the podium, you guys did a great race, I was hoping on top 5 spot this time but finished 6th. And looking at my poor beginning I’m happy with it. Really too bad for Ced and the others who had a dc.

Looking out for next one:gtpflag:

As you had such a great Qualy Snake, i was watching from back in 8th place, and hoping and praying that you guys at the front could beat up Chris, as i am sure with his heavy tyre wear you could eat into his pace with less tyre stops.

I can only imagine how nervous you must have been up there in second place, how hard to push so as not to crash, but dont want to let anyone past either, so my heart went out for you when you went wide at turn 1, its a horrible horrible feeling knowing that the great position you had is gone, and the whole pack is now in front of you, in that split second when the car starts to run wider and wider and onto the slippery stuff and you are thinking nooooo noooooo noooooo, i know the feeling, Agro did the same thing there a few laps later and Karsten went out about 5 laps in on the exit of spoon, both right in front of me, and although i like gaining the places they leave, i feel so bad for guys i see going off its so so painful, as i know only too well.

My race pace was generally poorer here than other track, as i just cant find a way to go fast and not crash, and there are plenty of things just waiting for me each lap, so again i opted to run slow and long and not crash.
Medium front tyres and driving with gentle turn in and hard acceleration trying to keep the front tyres as long as possible, and although i had the slowest race laps, i knew with no mistakes i could be again in a good position.

By the way guys, although i did not get a good lap in qualy, and i really know nothing about good setups, i have found that moving the ballast weight forward, to even 52/48 really helps stop the backend trying to jump out and gives the front end much more stability, in fact in the rain it make a huge huge difference to way the car accelerates.
In the dry it still works, but the front tyres wear out faster, so i suggest its a great thing for wet races, and maybe dry as well if you are happy to run shorter stints.

Anyway, with my ballast 52/48 and RM fronts and RS rears i would run gently until my fuel was gone, around lap 15.

The rain starting again so early was just very unexpected even after all the weather tests, it had rained and rained without the track getting wet since around lap 6 i think, but around lap 13 as i was getting near the end of fuel i could see slight spray behind cars that were offline, and when that starts to happen normally it is a sign the track will start to get wet soon.
However it still had not started getting wet when i pitted on lap 15, and had no choice to go on the same RM RS setup and hope they would be ok for another long stint, then around lap 17 the track slowly started to get wet.
I ran until around 30% then stopped for inters and ran again until 60% then went for full wets.

At times i led for a few laps, with Chris and SRT making more pitstops than me, but running a bit slower and safer was the way forward for me.

At 60% i started really lifting and coasting through the faster corners and it was hairy at times with a few little mistakes but overall quite happy to be running 3rd with such a slow pace.

When we got to 100% i was still ok, preservation mode was in, but in the back of my mind were Karstens words " i bet the track will still go to 100% and stay there after all your testing" so i was hoping that all my testing would bear some fruit and something would change, and it did, after around 60 minutes i just saw the little 100% flicker down to 99% wet track and i was so so so happy, it was better than winning lol, not really, but after hours and literally hours of tests, we had movement again.

So i ended up 3rd, really i ran the full wets too long but still, then i crashed entering the pit lane into the end of the barrier, which was painful.

When we got to under 20% dry track i went to RS RS and hoped i could chase down SRT who had come out of the pit just in front of me and was not pulling away, in fact i was closing him down slowly.
Then i had a really fast snake who was a lap down, he came up behind, and he would probably been happy to sit behind me but i thought if i pushed too hard to catch SRT i may run out of front tyres, so i moved over and lifted to let snake unlap himself and continued gently toward the end.

I had to keep a look out for Vic who was in 4th place behind me for many many laps, and i was never sure how far behind me he was until close to the end when i could see he was a long way back.

And that was it, rolled over the line in 3rd behind genius Chris and Srt.

It was probably one of my most enjoyable races, getting 3rd place was great, but having weather that throws its changes during a race is just great.

As already said, very sad to see the dc guys drop out, but nice that Cedbel came back to do a little live race reporting.

Thanks for the Good race Vic

I qualified 7th, pretty surprsing since my pace was slow, but somehow my mid wet pace was actually good.

Saw snake losing car (felt down for him after the great qualy he had)
And cruised safelt.
Race start was a big issue; pubs and tnt cars were jerking and smoking in front of me and i was trying to keep a distance to avoid a lag spike to send me off.

Silly from me for watching others is not smart when racing so i lost my car's back at spoon curve and rejoyned last and damaged.

From there i did not refuel and fitted rs tires and planned and extra long risky stint on softs. It did pay off and i did almost 30 mins on same tires. I let through snake for battling and killing tires more would have hurt me a lot.

Anyway my strategy call were perfect and with rain between 30 and 60 it looked like i was closing in on vic, but it was way too risky.

In the end it dried up but after the rain i was so tired i just brought car home lapping in over 2 mins with noone behind me. The rain made me sweat and dried off my energies lol

In the end it was a 5th, my season best (sounds patetic) but i do not think i could do much better even if i didn't crash out early, vic logic and thr others were faster nothing to do about it.

Pretty decent first session for me in GT Academy first round. 51st overall and 4th in the UK, lets do this!! Just have to keep it up for another 2 months and I'll hopefully make it to Abu Dhabi race camp! long way to go though

NEWS THUR 23 APRIL.

It has been decided that the top 4 car weight will revert back to the original series handicap weights.
This has been adjusted in post 1743.

I understand you guys not being happy to get so loaded up with excess weight, the idea was to make you guys go slower, which is clearly not something that you are enjoying, and at the end of the day, we would rather you in the series with enthusiasm.

Also
week 13 Trial Mountain Circuit Venue has been changed to Midfield Raceway.
