Qualifying:
Didn't do so well in the first couple laps, I suspect just waking up didn't help
. Pitted for a last lap dash and to my surprise popped up in 5th!! Made me keen for the race ahead, especially with no rain to ruin me! I just had to hold a good race.
5th
Race:
Making sure I stayed as close to the top 4 on start as possible, I managed to break away from
@TazRacing behind me and was running on my own for the first stint as I could see the top 3 having massive battles.
@GT_Vette seeming to drop pace slightly after the first 6 laps I so I had begun to ever so slightly catch him back and then even the leading 3 towards the end of their shorter stints. Watching the gap to the leader carefully, I figured I was keeping the same pace as
@SRT DK Racing (gaining sometimes on SRT at the end of the stint) and could hold the same stint duration as he was so decided to keep to that plan. It was a few laps longer than
@xChris93_ ,
@SkengD and Agro, so it had begun to have an overlap effect which made me very hopeful to be on the podium for the final stint run, possibly having to fend off one of the fast boys but I knew their speed dropped off quickly.
First stint done and drop back out to 5th a few seconds behind SRT (gaining slightly in the pits I think) and Agro. With an overlap of pitstops I was able to keep the same pace and then gaining on the leaders as I had fresher tyres and then they pitted. I knew it'd be an epic see-saw battle across the race but I was really enjoying being able to keep with their times, a few seconds behind on the road given, but keeping them in sight is always encouraging
.
Holding composure through my first couple stints with near no mistakes to my excitement, I was tracking well to my plan I felt.
Lap 21 came along, both pitting at the same time but a lap down, I began to quickly catch
@Stephen Vann a lap after into the fast esses over the crest of turns 3 and 4. Eager to stay in touch with Agro a couple seconds ahead in 3rd, I had already decided from turn 2 that I would pass Logic down the inside perfectly into the Turn 5 hairpin.
It all happened so fast, I suspect Logic not expecting me to be right behind him so suddenly; I approached him out of Turn 4, aiming out of the corner for the outside and the subsequently the inside into 5 as he was already partly on the racing line. But just as I caught him, he actually then went to go offline to let me pass, but that's where I was already. Swerving drastically to avoid the backend of the bright pink car, I then lost it into the left hand concrete wall giving myself front left damage.
I'm thankful I didn't hit you dude, no hard feelings, was just a very fast part of the track, slightly blind in fact and we both had different ideas to make it easier for each other
, my mistake I should've been more cautious lol.
Anyway of course decided to pit but this ruined my brilliant plan and the start of my gains on the leaders as I was only 2 laps into my stint. I effectively put myself back onto their stint runs and had a hard time making any sort of gain before my tyres died out.
Some nice little battles with
@TazRacing as I had to pass him after each pit stop for the next couple stints. Think I was on well fresher tyres than you so it wasn't exactly a fair fight
. Even had a chance to be back in touch with
@kossu who had made nice ground after his unfortunate lap 1 mistake behind me, he was ahead in 3rd returning from a pit stop. I shamefully dropped a wheel on the run into the dog leg corners of 6 and 7. Chris hot on my tail after that. on green tyres he quickly caught me.
Heading into the last 10mins I was running 5th a few laps into a stint, I decided I would wing it and run to the end knowing my tyres will be quite gone by the last couple laps. I was so sad to see Kossu ahead in 4th lose it on the last corner and hit the pit entry barrier, that's a real shame man you made a great race after your first lap spin to get back to 4th.
Agro also pitting I reached third but I had Sken closing in after making a pit stop a few laps ago.
A great litre scuffle mate, I knew your tyres were dying off by the time you caught me but you just had that little more pace on me and I gave it a little easily to you with less than 3mins remaining on the run into turn 1, you had massive slipstream on me
. I was hoping I could catch you on the last lap or so knowing how much more your grip dropped off, which I was able to stay on your tail for the next final lap until we had Agro catch us by the first tunnel. Gave me a little bit of grief out of it and into the hairpin that runs into the next tunnel before the bridge, tagging my left rear as I bravely defended. I'll give you a massive handshake dude, appreciate you giving me the spot back for the final last turns and the chequered flag for 4th, there is no incident there in my books but I wish it could've been a sweet battle between the 3 of us for the rest of that final lap
.
4th
I'm yet to find that perfect race where I have nothing go wrong for me lol. Another 4th to add to my season's high, I'm very happy with that race though, a big bag of points after a couple DNFs and a bad run at Suzuka, but another missed shot at a podium.
Congratulations to the winners
@SRT DK Racing @xChris93_ and
@SkengD you guys even though are weighted down and I suspect not fun especially with that tyre wear, are still mega fast and it's tough to be up there and stay in touch.
Was a great race imo overall, aside the first restart drama it all went without a hitch and I very much enjoyed it.
@azidahaka I'm sad to see you struggle so much mate. I'm sorry I haven't been the most supportive team mate lol, but I don't know what I'm doing differently to find pace easier than you?
Thanks mate
I'm only just recently finding how to drive this Lexus fast and the combination of now having my G27 for 4 months.
I'm sorry again to see you off into the pit wall like you had to lose a great result.
Agreed welcome back
@Gueven Art! It was great to see you in a whole race
. A shout out to
@cedbel, you seem to have improved a lot from DS3 to wheel!
.
First time I had reset my router before a race and yeah seemed to help a lot. It's my housemate's crazy setup so I've been too scared to touch it, but was able to this morning and will try it again next week. Hopefully it runs smooth again because that was great for 15!
Apologies this is long lol.
