I’m gonna use the Corvette Gr.4 tonight, don’t @ me.
grudging-respect

Today was great! First race was pointless as I was matched with some C class drivers, though I claimed a tidy 3rd despite a disappointing qualifying in 9th due to a final corner mistake.

Second race had me qualify 7th with a much better lap. I got up to 6th after someone binned it on lap 2 while exiting turn 3, though I lost that position when that same guy punted me in turn 2 the following lap. I was forced to slam on the brakes to just barely stay on track while he overtook me without a penalty, much to my chagrin. I lost another position due to a mistake exiting the Corkscrew. At this point, I was losing hope of getting any meaningful points and got aggressive with a Corvette trying to overtake me on the start/finish straight, squeezing him to the pitwall to force him back.

Karma came knocking for the guy that punted me off, as he messed up twice in the same sector:

As the race progressed, the frontrunners gradually pitted in to take their Hards. By the end of lap 12, I was up into 3rd place, but I had a one-stopper closing in right behind me, forcing me on the defensive. I nearly flew off at Rainey twice and nearly cut the Corkscrew in a desperate fight to stay ahead. By the end of lap 14, the race leader had boxed, leaving me with just one lap to win the race.

3rd place boxes while I (left) had to fight off the charging one-stopper:

What was your total time for a no stop do you remember? I thought that was the way to go but just went a full minute faster running 14M-1H. Gunna re go the no stop and see if I was just running slowly.

Edit-

Just re ran it no stopping hards and was faster by about 20 seconds, with a spin dropping a tyre in the dirt at t2. So had a look at replay of race I was in last night and I was clearly not pushing enough at the start then stuck in traffic for several laps, that explains that haha. So clearly a no stop the way to go 👍.

I only ran one race where I ran RM/RH. I went from 4 seconds ahead the winner before the pit stop to 16 seconds behind the winner at the end after the stop, running mediums for 9 laps. I ran 15 laps on Hards but in Free Practice only. Even with the time it took to get out of the pit lane to start the session I still finished 2 seconds faster than my race time, where I didn't encounter any traffic, so 20 seconds quicker sounds about right to me.

I'm taking a much needed break from editing/testing for FIA.

You deserve a break! Hope you rest up well!

While I've slowly moved away from using the Corvettes for everything, I might use it today for fun since it's explicitly one of 2 limited choices. I don't have much luck at Laguna Seca anyway, so I probably wouldn't get any usable points.

I'm also gonna plaster Chevy logos all over the Cayman and might race it like that instead .

Decided to do a nation race for once; used the Cayman, qauilified 9th with a 1.29 and a bit, used HT, no stop. The race itself was rather uneventfull, was busy trying to do smooth laps, preserving the tyres and getting out of trouble . I ended 6th and the top 5 was just to fast for me, regardless of the strategy.

Finally got a W after I switched from joystick to steering wheel in May lol

Started in p1 and the only threat I got is the car behind was chasing me with medium tyres... just slowly drove to the finish line after he pitted.

Was a boring race for you guys so I don’t upload the race replay lol but still, glad that I can get my 1st W since May...

Btw, just give you guys an idea about the lap time of qualifying: I made a 1:26.9 and got the pole, p2-4 were all 1:27.0-1:27.1. Lap times for top 10 were pretty close as i remember...

My race was laughably boring. Qualified 10th (which is the position where autodrive drops you right before the last corner) so I've lost the slipstream before I get to the start line.

I pass two spinners. My strategy for this race was to do an early slot in the hope that the majority of people wouldn't know to do a no stopper. One single person pitted. I finished 7th.

My race in a nutshell

So nations today, Where do I see the race start/entry times?

UK race times for a Tuesday are: 15:00, 16:20, 17:40, 19:00, 20:20, 21:40, 23:00

Lastly to confirm, Cayman and hards with a no stop, no fuel saving?

All correct. You can even rev out the car during the grid walk to lighten the fuel load. The first few laps the fuel map will tell you that you won't have enough for the 15 laps but you will.

Suggest to drive a bit more conservative to prevent wearing your tyres too much, or you will have a tough time in the last 3 laps lol

This is a travesty. And PD wonders why the last time a race combo like this showed up drivers just took the tire req penalty instead of pitting.

NATIONS

Qualifying was alright for me, could have gone a couple of tenths faster. Was 0.45 of 2nd and about a second of pole.

Starting in 11th I started on the hard tyres and tried to 0 stop the race and make up places when everyone else pitted. I almost immediately made up a place as a car went of at T3. Race was quiet from there apart from medium runners passing me on laps 6 and 10, with the latter being held of for about 3 laps until they passed me.

Sure enough I made up plenty of places when other cars pitted and by lap 11 was in 5th place. Then on lap 13 was hit from behind by a Cayman on me on medium tyres who used my car as their brakes (I checked the replay after and confirmed this (and would later blame me for, calling it a dirty move from me???)) as T5 sending me into the gravel and down into 8th. I would later finish there as a pink pig liveried Cayman tried to pass me on the last lap.

Fairy happy with that dispite being punted of into the shadow realm as it was still an improvement on where I started although it should have been a bit better with the contact costing me a couple of places.

The incident in question:

1st attempt: started 12th. Was 6th as cars in front battled but then spun myself and finished 13rd.

2nd attempt: Would have qualied around 7th but got perfect slipstream and just get 2nd.

1st is on medium and lost his slipstream early and had a packed train behind me. Let 3rd overtake me in T1 as he is faster and able to thin the train as pace quickened while I get his slipstream. Stayed 2nd after 1st went to pit till the end.
A nice race all thing considered as my pure pace would not get me to the podium in the first place.

Still beats driving a Suzuki Swift, lol.

I'm tempted to start running Nations this next stage but it looks like they are all pretty high multipliers... much higher than Manufacturer races it seems. I'm not quite sure I can hang around towards the end of those races. I could imagine the Corvette tires fall off a cliff at some point if it's anything like the Fords. Porsche will walk away with this one....

I still have no idea what strategy to use for Manufacturers race, people are pitting every other lap. 7S-6M-1H or 6S-6S-1M-1H but you better hope you don't get caught up in traffic with the three stop.

Managed to get my qualifying time down to high 1:54s to 1:55.1xx feeling real good about starting up front.

High quality post.... thank you for sharing!

You were wronged in that punting... shame on that guy. You were quite generous with your intention to stay low and cover the inside, he was so in the wrong that he should also be punished for being ignorant enough to accuse you, in addition to the foul itself.

I'm hoping for quite a similar result in the NA race tonight, in the first slot... looks like we have similar speed, I hope it works out as well for me (though you deserved better...). 8th is my minimum target (per post last week) for each remaining round, and I'll keep climbing DR and FIA standings if so. Being that I'm a Porsche driver in the Manufacturers Series, at least I feel right at home today!

Tried to enter the practice session and it says I have no cars that comply with the regulations??

I have 23 Gr4 cars in my garage and was currently in Gr4 car?

Has this happened to anyone else before and what can I do to sort it?

You specifically need the Gr.4 Porsche Cayman or the Gr.4 Chevrolet Corvette. Those are the only cars eligible for the race. Do you have either of those?

Thanks, well you know what they say, you can't argue with stupid.

Two cars only, only Corvette and Porsche Cayman are allowed.

Doh! I didn't read the requirements close enough. I don't have either unfortunately. Good excuse to buy both and try them out.

Thanks guys.

Man... Just got best race in GTS ever. Not only gained best score 148pts, best thing was racing... Got beautiful battle for 2nd place with spanish gentelman, there was no chance for clean pass so I backed off, then italian gentelman who was on pole but pitted catch me, I was passed on last lap but it doesnt matter for me... Something BEAUTIFUL. I upload replay of this, its worth sharing, it brings back faith for humanity:)
Started 7th on hards in Cayman btw
Edit: video is uploading, 14min it says, my internet is preety slow I guess?
While watching I noticed that it was possible to win this race, I got better pace than 1 and 2, but stucked behind spaniard... Thats ok:)

I haven't looked too closely at the multipliers and cars for this season of Nations, but I know there are several rounds that use road cars, which means that they will most likely be using either Sports or Comfort tires. Don't forget that the tire multipliers will almost always be higher when using non-Racing tires, because they are harder compounds. So a 15X tire multiplier on comforts or sports tires isn't nearly as detrimental to tire life as it would be if they were racing tires. I remember a 20X tire wear race in N300 not long ago, and the tires were good for the whole race. Don't be discouraged...everyone else has the same handicap. Just race!

So did my first Nations cup race ever, Qualified 4th, only one who started on the hards, let everyone by if they dived up the inside, didn't fight any of them, was 11th before everyone else ended up pitting and I zoomed past them to take 6th in the end, I had some off optimum racing line from those coming past where I lost +/-6-7seconds which was the gap to 1st over the finish line. Ended the night there with 125points(whatever that means)

My Nations race had a good mixture of cars - 12 Caymans and 8 Corvettes. A Cayman won, but Corvettes finished 2, 3, and 4. I was the next Corvette finishing 8th (qualified 9th). I did a no-stop, and about half the field made a pit stop. Some of them still beat me as I wasn't that fast, just running consistent laps on the RH's and staying out of trouble :). Lots of clean drivers all around, it was a fun race, and a good result for me as it was my first FIA race in a DR B lobby.

What is it with drivers who want to make their mistake everyone else's problem?

I had a Brit in a Corvette do a big slide in front of me, and I dived left and mostly off the track to avoid him... at which point he started to hug the left of the track to prevent me rejoining as long as possible, then elbows me off the outside of the right-hander for good measure. Then there's the Polish guy who fell off totally at the third-last corner, rejoined at walking pace right onto the racing line (luckily ghosted, so I didn't end him), then spends the rest of the race sticking his nose up the inside or tapping the rear of my car in every corner he's close enough to do so. On every corner he wasn't close enough to do so he was trying to wipe out a Turkish driver behind him.

Two corners from the end, he stuffs it right up the inside and smashed me off the track, so one corner from the line I ended him.

"I didn't even touch you. You slided," sayeth the goon. I hope that every time he puts on a sock, there's a piece of grit in it.

Another FIA race, another waste of time :indiff: Really starting to get discouraged by how recent races have gone. I'm hoping Maunfacturers tomorrow will be better since pit strategy will actually be a thing, because any of these no-stop races I tend do to terribly at.

I just can't for the life of me get a decent lap at Laguna Seca. Was door #19 out of 19 players, qualified 15th, finished 14th, only because me getting passed was made up by a ton of people ahead wiping out. I was only able to get 100-ish points which won't contribute to my total and another DR loss of 500. Hopefully the rest of the season will be better.
