Fiat Barchetta @Toscana Mini Enduro *MCRC* Mon @ 3pm EDT / 8pm BST

Oh my dear Finn, how can you not have all cars yet? ^^ you really should start buying more cars :P

As for this question, I just don't really play GT5 anymore except for online racing purposes, and I can't expect which standard car is being raced next!!! :dopey:

I finally got the car and did some laps.

2:38:3XX was my best time after 5 laps, I sure 37.5s or better can be done. (Done, online in a lounge, with setting matching the OP).

Nobody Panic!!

I know it looks like we'll be racing the BORG.

But I'll be lucky to get 2:39.s
So everyone will at least have the chance at beating the host. ;)

I think probably even lower than 2:37.5s are possible (for someone other than me lol)... Just because I know that sometimes I can do some sectors a lot faster than most of the time. Putting it altogether is my issue.
But possible is not probable. The track is just long & odd enough to make it improbable that even an alien will be doing fast whole perfect laps for 15 laps with tire wear & the threat of heavy damage.

And who knows, maybe a badger will run out in front of carracerptp.

Do they have badgers in Tuscany?

Here are some cars that have been on my mind to race. ;)
Nissan SKYLINE Sport Coupe (BLRA-3) '62
Toyota 2000GT '67
Miura P400 Bertone Prototype CN.0706 '67
Mazda Cosmo Sport (L10B) '68
VW Karmann Ghia Coupe (Type-1) '68

Just saying is all. ;)

With a car like this, keeping the momentum up is important, so it line choices will be the difference. I would think tire wear would be minimal on CS tires.

I have a small collection of in-game Karmann Ghia's. I just like the car.

I suppose I'm going to have to play this song the whole time I'm racing, right?

Tire wear is not significant, and shouldn't really be an issue at all if you take the mandatory pit around halfway through. But if you've had to use your pit early on because of damage, and then wind up in traffic, or making sudden movements, or grinding it too hard & too abruptly around some of those turns, can change that. I did a test where I pitted (for damage) 2 laps into 15 laps, and by lap 13 (about 10 laps on the tires) I was getting some understeer at a few areas of the track. (Like the back & forth turns near the end of the track were much less smooth for me.)

Keeping the momentum is extremely important... and with other cars on the track, that really makes the difference. I mean if the choice is between keeping your momentum in a critical point in the track, or losing momentum but avoiding a collision with other cars... That could be a decisive factor.

I've noticed that when we race this track in shuffle room (&/or rec garage spec) races, I could be behind a cluster of 3-4 cars by a significant gap... Then we get to that left turn that then goes uphill into the right turn under the banner checkpoint, and not only close the gap, but possibly pass a couple of cars, because they were prevented from getting a good line up into that hill because of the traffic they were in. This happens pretty consistently in races on this track. Though sometimes it's me that gets stuck in the traffic, and someone else who comes up to close a gap from behind.
There are a couple of spots like that on this track, which I think is what makes it so much fun to race this track with low power cars. Something's always happening on this track. It seems to be a track that really makes for close racing, and the potential for grid upsets that have a lot to do with luck.

It's just a darn fine looking car!!!

I rate it up there in good looks with the Alfa Sprint Speciale, (which is my favourite car in the game I think).

@ dylansan: You're too young to be listening to that!
(Geez, I was just a kid when that came out. ;))

Oy. With the way I've been driving recently I just hope that I can keep the car out of the wall. I'll probably be putting up 3 minute laps just trying to keep it clean. :ill:

You & me both then! :nervous:

I'm banking on some form of attrition to not come in dead last and lapped.

Though, the track is long enough that at least getting lapped is an outside in probabilities.

Yeah. Lapped in a 15 lap race is definitely not something I want to be.

Yeah. Lapped in a 15 lap race is definitely not something I want to be.

Well, at this hp, on a track the same length as Grand Valley Speedway, I don't think that will happen.
But I've been known to be lapped in shorter races than this by carracerptp! :scared:

Does everyone have access to the MCRC_Lounge now?
Let me know if not!

For anyone wondering, I didn't get disconnected, my PS3 randomly shut off...

I'm going to need to look at that...

dabney and I were discussing the fact that you probably would rather have been disconnected. Good luck at the ECU!

As in 2:37.330?

Had to get that in there…

Great race. Great combo. Great fun. It's great to come out successful!

I especially liked the uphill/downhill section in the "middle" of the course. That was the one place where you could make that Barchetta slide a touch.

One lap in the race. I can't remember for certain but I don't believe I was drafting anyone at the time. I'll have a look at the replay at some point.

Congrats, to Apmaddock!
I'll post results laters on.

Was that 2:37.330 a qualifying time? Or race pace?

It was in the race, but he was out front quite a bit... :sly:
Though dabneyd was out front some of the time so maybe it was dabneyd's draft! (We can hope!!!!!)
I'll be looking for it when I have a chance to watch the replay!! :dopey:

But I knew it was possible just because of those few spots where I know I can go faster... but often don't... and can't seem to go fast in all of them all on the same lap. :grumpy:

As for the qualifying lap... I think I started in front but should definitely NOT have. My best lap was 2:40.4 I think - I'm pretty sure, and the "best lap" on the leaderboard during qualifying, I'm positive, said 2:39.6 - and I don't think I did better than 2:40... because I messed up and got damage and wouldn't have had time to repair and do another lap, and the damage was bad. :( And I didn't think I'd qualify up front anyway. Plus, I don't like starting in front, it's too nervous making. :nervous:
So don't tell me there's yet MORE different issues with qualifying.
I'm pretty sure we all stayed on track.

I'm pretty sure that it was after the first pit stop that he ran that time. He got in front of me when I pitted a lap after him and he never looked back.

Yeah. I started in the back for the race but during qualifying it had me #1. Stranger than that was the fact that my best qualifying time was around 2:41 flat (I think) but the best time posted was 2:39.

I've had it happen before where I started in the back no matter where I qualified. I don't know why that happens but some days it does.

Oh well.

Oh yeah, to add to the strangeness, when I qualified it said I had pole the whole time even though I obviously didn't. Then during the race, it said I was in the lead the entire time.

I think one of the fans is not working and it overheated a bit. Gonna need to work on that.

I will be there on Monday though still, unless something comes up. 👍

Sorry I didn't tell for certain that I wasn't coming tonight, I thought I would come when other things suddenly came up and I was away for the whole day ^^ Will show up on monday for certain though :)

Seems like you had lots of fun anyway. How many were you? and did anyone crash their cars? :P

There were six of us.

I took some damage in Lap 7 so I pitted a lap earlier than planned. I don't know about anyone else.

when his ps3 shut down unexpectedly. :( :( :( :(

I always tend to pit halfway through a race (or at even intervals when pitting more than once), so I was planning on pitting on lap 7 the whole time.

I can't say for certain if it makes any difference, but I remember back in the GT4 days, Famine did a whole calculation showing that pitting halfway through was the best idea. I just kinda took it at face value because I have no idea.

For anyone wondering, I didn't get disconnected, my PS3 randomly shut off...

Dabneyd said that's what happened when someone else said you DC'd. I wondered how he could know that!
Then I was thinking maybe you blew a fuse blasting Rush on a system plugged into the same outlet as the ps3 & television set & the AC.

I think one of the fans is not working and it overheated a bit.

Is it an older model? Was it hot today?
Last year it got so so so hot one week (even with the AC going full blast!) that when I raced an hour long race during the day, I pointed a little fan at the ps3 to keep the air moving between it & the wall, because I was concerned.
I don't know if that helps with a ps3 to be honest, but it always worked to put a fan by my PCs when I was overtaxing the video cards - got a lot less shut downs by keeping a little fan moving the air away from the computers.

I'm pretty sure that it was after the first pit stop that he ran that time. He got in front of me when I pitted a lap after him and he never looked back.

I guess that's why all of a sudden, the gap started widening quickly. Once he was out front it seemed he took off like a rocket. Actually, I delayed my pit stop because I wanted to get some space on the track by myself to get clear runs into pivotal areas. I certainly was NOT lonely in this race!! Indeed, dylansan was within view most of my race. Until his unfortunate poof out of existence. :( I was so mad because I felt sure I was gaining on him!

That's fine Phouchg, you said you were only a possibly for Friday. :)

I was damage free for 14 laps. Then on lap 15, more than halfway through the lap, I got a bit of damage on my rear driver's side. :dopey:
I so so so so so stink once it gets dark!! :ill:

Is it an older model? Was it hot today?
Yes and yes. But I still think the fan is an issue too as this is not the first time it's happened. I've already sent it in for repairs before because it wasn't reading discs. I asked them to look at the fan but I suppose they never did.

I'm also pretty sure because it's very quiet even when it's hot and should be blasting air out of it. I currently have the regular house fan pointed at it, trying to keep it cool, but during the race it was a bit farther away and probably wasn't doing anything. I'll either fix the fan or just install one on top to keep it cool. Whatever works.

Sorry I missed the race today. I totally flaked and thought the first race was tomorrow. :guilty:

See you Monday though.

Affirmative: while waiting for Aceboy127 and his oval-testing session, I practised about 40 minutes with the Barchetta in my lounge. I did a serious of low 2:38's and one 2:37.9, which was still far from perfect.

That will be fun on monday evening.
