Absolutely... however, I just took an afternoon off work (in Glasgow) to support England (in the pub) and have spent about 3 hours justifying myself to every asshat who believes I'm kowtowing to ancient oppression from King Edward's army, all in name of hoping to see a decent game of football... yet, I get home (slightly hammered, admittedly) and hear the very same casual nationalistic/racist hatred that some of us are trying to counter and it 🤬 annoys me...

Of course, but it's ITV. Do you expect any kind of sane production from them? A company which produces questions for GMTV like, "How many 50ps in £10?"

GMTV
How many 50ps in £10?

Is the answer:
A - 20
B - Janis Joplin
C - The concept of disappointment

In other news, I don't know about wanting Germany to go out, but I don't want Ghana to win the group. They're scary.

Lol. They're talking about Ghana v. Germany on this show on the spanish station univision and joking about how many times they can say Ghana in a sentence. Si Ghana gana y Alemania gana Ghana, Ghana gana al proximo [round].

+1

It also annoys me when commentators assume a default fans view, and tells us what we should want to happen, and who we want to score. I personally think commentators should tell us what they think is happening, and not who they think I should be supporting.

What also annoyed me, I was watching the recent match in the pub, and at the end of the match, someone turns to me and said 'Now we have to play the bloody nazi's', last I checked, Hitler wasn't the manager.

I enjoy casual banter between two rival teams with a history, it adds fun and puts a bit more at stake, but when it spills over into casual racism, a line is crossed, and its really unnecessary in this day and age (not that it ever has been necessary). 👎

:) Si Ghana gana y Alemania gana Ghana, Ghana gana su division y asi Ghana gana el paso al proximo [round]. :sly:

Yeah, I can't remember exactly what they said but it was funny.

You get that banter anywhere you go. I heard a few songs about the IRA and Germany today. I don't find it offensive but I can't help but cringe because the people singing are your stereotypical English, sun burnt, income tax dodging, council estate scumbags.

I couldn't help but laugh when someone started singing the Dads Army theme tune earlier but it was done by a group who you could tell meant nothing by it.

Back to the football. I'm confident England will step up to the play on Sunday and I believe that we'll win. I have such confidence in England performing. As much as I hate playing Germany, you know it's going to be eventful and that's what makes the world cup awesome.

I think singing dads army is fairly innocuous banter. 👍

Singing '10 german bombers' might not be perhaps. :scared:

The same company that gave us Hamilton-vision for F1 seasons 2007-2008 too. 👎

Best moment of the match.

Wow, nice job he did at keeping the goal. ;)

At least now when footballers use the tired old cliche "he leapt like a salmon", we know what they're talking about.

Italy currently losing to Slovakia and seem to be booking an early flight home on the France Fail plane.

Italy does not appear to have an easy task!:)
Slovakia has proofed to be one of the most pleasant surprises of the W.C.👍
Paraguay on the other hand is a good team but not a great team.Hard to understand how they were one of the Top teams to qualify on the S.American Region, because they are nowhere near the Skills of Brazil ,Argentina or even Chile or Uruguay ,as a matter of fact:confused:

I'm hoping New Zealand can sneak a result past Paraguay to follow them into the the final 16. Not terribly optimistic, but hopeful non the less.

A goal for NZ would put Slovakia out as things stand... Slovakia would need more goals or need NZ to win by more than one, otherwise it would be NZ and Paraguay that went through...

Well Italy are really on the brink now. Slovakia looking like a team that should go through perhaps.

So, 2 of the last 3 world champions and the finalists from the last cup out at the group stage, wasn't expecting that when this world cup started!

Great, more cheating and play acting. I really hope Fifa grow some balls and start banning the idiots who do this, you can clearly see that the Slovakian player was nowhere near Quaglliarella's (sp?) face.

Di Natale just scored. :) Also, good news. I found the sister station to Univision buried deep in the OTA channels. So now I can watch the other game instead of being stuck with Nueva Zealanda v. Paraguay.

So to advance the Italians need a NZ-Para draw and they need to win?

edit: AWW MAN that was close!

*does the "I have Di Natale in my fantasy team" dance*

Also, bloody hell, that was close. Not that Quagliarelli should still be on the pitch after that dive in front of Howard Webb.

Edit: 3-1
