Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

Tonight was a good example of how the grip level, and hence speed, can vary within a room.

I was in a room, alongside @mr_rainmaker, and for the first couple of races I had no grip and was running 1.45s. Presumably somebody then left the room, as the grip levels went up, and I was able to run low 1.42s.

I'm not sure whether @mr_rainmaker was affected in the same way, but he will have definitely seen how much my speed improved. Others were also running faster times, so the effect spread more widely than just me.

Edit: also showed that, as has been seen in other QMs, the car in front had more grip available than those behind

I had used the Subaru WRC 08, which has the potential to be very fast, but it seems to like to spend it's time on track at 90° to the direction of travel!

Exactly the reason I use it and am very quick with it.
It likes to be sideways, as such it transitions very well from sliding left to right.
problem it it's heavy and under-powered, so you need to keep your momentum, be smooth and get on the loud pedal nice and early to keep your speed up

I'll have to give the scooby a try then. The SX4 felt like a dog trying to Scandi flick and it bogged down just as bad as the C4. The C4 felt livelier but not enough oomph to make the most of it.

I just want a lively car with enough oomph to get it sideways. I'm fine finishing last...as long as it's fun.

Yea I kinda rubbed bone_tones rear and sides a little and he took off....lol. But yea the first few races srf was off and it was pretty slick,h e was hard to catch PN keeps putting me in the back of the grid all the time. Then the field got filled, thats when the lap times dropped SRF got turned on.... I guess after certain lap times,we almost lapped someone THAT'S when I checked the next race SRF was turned on for me...
But bone_tone got a couple 141s and I got a 142 and 143s on the last few race. I went over to another race for awhile then came back and e everything was back to normal i was fighting to make 149s.... I use the X car it's best for my style of turn and burn.

You'll like it then!

I took 3 seconds off my time and got low 47s with the WRC 08. Much better in the transitions.👍

Not a cat's chance in hell of getting down to the low 40s like everyone else though...until I remembered SRF. Ran a single race with it on and got a 1.42 (messed the last right hander up before the finish line as well) and 5:19 total.:grumpy:

Can people please start saying if they're using SRF or not when they quote their quick match lap times? I thought there was something seriously wrong with my driving looking at your lap times compared to my non SRF times...

Yea well some think I`m nuts, but I believe PN turns it on sometimes if the laptimes in the back of the pack are too slow, and it just exasperates the issue if your in the front runners,I check now almost everytime in qm...
but theres no way to turn it off even if you leave and try and get back in with friends,it sometimes still stays on...

I'm still convinced that sometimes when it says it's on it's not, and maybe vice versa.......

50% of the time it's shown as being on for me, and for about 50% of those times it appears to have no effect.

could someone tell me how many rooms are running?
because sometimes friends are in one section of qm and I go in to race, and have to pop in and out quite a few times and still can`t find them.
I kinda though that 5 lit up markers meant 5 rooms but thats far from what is there.
are there stats up on how many rooms people are gaming at the time anywhere?

According to the GT6 manual, the lit up markers show how popular a room is - 'Popularity (The more white icons that are displayed, the more players are interested in the event.)'

Interestin.....this needs further investigation...

No investigation needed. He's right.

SRF. If it's off in your career mode, you will never see it turned on in quick match. There's no exceptions.

The only real reason I can see you getting different grip levels is due to regularly running races with vastly different grip levels. It would be like doing races with an untuned car (SRF off) for one race and a perfect tune (SRF on) the next. Consistency has to take a dive always swapping from one to the other.

Edit: Forgot to say that I accept people are using it (no way of stopping it) but quoting lap times with SRF turned on confuses the hell out the people running without it. Especially for the people who've not done that particular quick match before.

^^I agree with all of this^^^

Just to add:
I would like to see people post their times both with SRF and without. I tried the Toscana event with the Mitsubishi Super Rally Car with these results, 1:47's without SRF and one race with SRF and ''magically'' I was doing 1:42's. I don't think people are taking into account the ''getting used to conditions'' period of the first few races. I would liken it to going from Race Soft Tyres to Comfort Softs on the same car but different track. I think it is fairly reasonable to assume that 1:45's in the early phase of racing, or in traffic, are times done by average players (like most of us, aliens excluded) with SRF. I am also sceptical of people who infer they did not check for SRF when they first entered the room, started most of the races back in traffic, and THEN decided to check for SRF when more people joined and lap times dropped.

Yea I'm seeing it now just got off line,i guess I wasn't doing it right... career turn on run a couple laps Then go into Qm and it's on,i tried to turn it on in arcade TT. Then go intto Qm. Doh. Well I see it greyed out but on but I still see it off sometimes even when I did try to turn it on to see if the laps are faster. But still think it's a bigger advantage for wheel users I'm only seeing a second a lap time difference with a ds3.
Now at redbullbring you can hold the 2 left handers without sliding but I only saw a second a lap difference.

If you're posting times on GT planet anywhere, and using SRF by choice,
you should be banned from GT planet....

Don't you think it would be nice to be able to tell the legit times from the SRF polluted ones:idea:.
I have only ever run two races with SRF on by choice. The first one was to confirm my theory on activating SRF in the first place (I also apologized to those people I raced, all two of them), and then one more to see what times I could do at Toscana (where I dropped to the back, then did my times), but by your logic I should be banned because I posted one SRF time that I chose to do, PFFFT....

PS. In case you can't tell, I dislike SRF.

No, you're fine, as you were conducting a legitimate experimental procedure.

Not someone cheating by using some stabilising force that literally defies the laws of physics

(although you do drive a Ford, so you need all the help you can get... :D )

No worries:cheers:

I agree with your sentiment on this but there are others out there that don't care, so it would be good to know what type of lap times are being thrown around so we can compare apples with apples.

Unfortunately I haven't driven my prized FPV GT-P for over four years now due to accident damage (me, not the car) so, yeah, a bit of help doesn't go astray..... just not from SRF:lol:

The touring cars have a shed load of grip and down force so SRF is only slightly quicker on a track like the RBR. @Ed_Night has shown that the only real difference between a wheel and DS3 user is practice though. I can see him getting into the high 20s (or better) easily with SRF. Sure, it's harder, but it's possible to compete with most wheel users with one. He's an inspiration for us DS3'ers.

I drive a 2014 Ford C-Max 1.6 diesel. What are you trying to say?:D

No wonder I like my racing games. A bit of escapism.

Same here.
the days of owning a Twin-Turbo JDM SUbaru Legacy have been replaced with a Lifted-up, packed out, All-Terrain wearing Diesel Forester.....

It's funny. I beg people to say if SRF is on or off for the lap times they're getting and the thread goes completely silent.

Maybe something to hide?:banghead:

All the threads seem quiet, probably because of the length of time we have the same TTs and QMs now - people getting bored.

I found the Le Mans race slower for me with SRF on, so I make sure it is off first.

The biggest time difference is at Toscana, where I have been running 1.45s with SRF off - haven't been in a race all week where people were running faster than that, so may not have come up against anybody with SRF on.

Of course, they may have had it on, but still not been very fast!

I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise for a week, so missed many posts. Catching up now.

Note: I always have SRF off, but it has been on in about 1/3 of my QM's and greyed so it can't be changed.

last days of a sinking ship, not much longer for gt6,I doubt PN will put much more effort into QM now with GT Sport going online,I think they may give us a couple more QM changes left....
SO lets all have some Fun with whats left....
Que the classical music quartet on the deck of the :gtplanet:titanic going down...

They kept GT5 online for 6 months after GT6 got released but GTS will be on a different platform to GT6. I reckon they'll set a year aside to wind down the online side of GT6 and we'll keep seeing PD's schedule of FIA quick matches.

Not that it matters to me. As soon as GTS comes out, GT6 goes in the drawer to keep GT5 company and I'm jumping ship. Just the same as I've done for every (too busy for GT4...) new GT game.

The biggest issue will be which will be out first - GTS or the PS4.5? If the game comes out first, it would probably then mean waiting for the PS4.5, or else you end up with a potentially obsolete PS4.....

I'm waiting as long as possible to see what the new console refresh runs like but I'm not going to bother with VR (till it's fully established and cheaper) or have a 4K TV to make use of the up scaling and 4K bluray.

I'm hoping Sony stick to their word and games released after the refresh run fine on the old version but I suppose that's up to the developers catering for both. I imagine at least one dev will go rogue and make a 4.5 version along with a regular PS4 version but I don't think PD will be one of them.

As long as the GTS game is PS4 compatible, the deals on my new PS4 should be half pice! *snickering
