It's starting to look like we maybe, just maybe have ourselves a livery editor. There are a number of cars with subtle custom paintwork - we have the mini cooper s with the numbers, the yellow Gallardo with a black stripe across the bonnet, and now this. :embarrassed:

Also if you look at the front of the GTR, it has a swooshy thing on it, like something a livery editer would have

I'm not 100% sure, but i think that's just paint being scratched off. Hopefully it is a livery editor, i hope GT5 has a livery editor, if it does then i'll be a very happy man, and if it doesn't then i'll still be a very happy man :dopey:
 
We can pick that phrase apart if you would like. And you know what it will tell us? That realistic damage is included in a simulator. After all, when you simulate you are emulating realistic conditions.

Actually you can, simulation/simulator can be used on anything that represents a function. And it does not need to include every single aspect of that function. "real" does not really help, it's almost like saying "real fake".

anyway. it's a saturday, no need for this. I want damage too, i'm just a bit an*l today :)

Look at the GT-R.. it has some white decal or something. Livery editor anyone?

in this video, if you wach at begenning, you can see the mercedes hit another mercedes at side.. the cars lock up body to body pretty accuretly.. as well in gt5p you had some force field around the car like few inches of air that protects you, now with this demo you can see that there is actual body contact!!! good

and yeah, theis is only a demo, so sounds, physics, etc will improve i bet
 
The title of this thread is really misleading because the engine sounds sound just as rubbish in that video as they have always done and there is no improvement to Shift levels as claimed.

As for all this stuff about using 5.1 surround to hear it, I can listen to a video of something like Shift on laptop speakers and it still sounds way better than GT. One thing NFS has always done right is sound.

It can be included. Damage that is. My expectations of damage have never been satisfied by any racing game. I just want them to do it right. So far they are not. Its no different than anything else I have seen.

If anyone can do damage right, its PD.

As I said before, if you can show me NFS's sounds are closer to reality than GT5P's then they got the sound right. Otherwise, they're just over exaggerated to be more impressive. Not real, or right. Unless by "right" you mean "the way you like".
 
sometimes you can find youtube videos of in camera sounds of stock cars.. most times even with windows closed, the engines are super quiet and you hear a lot of wind.. a lot of tv media tries to upper the sounds of the eninges especailly in movies and for commercials... idk whenever i drive my car, push it a bit, its still preetty quiet.. its stock.. but for racecars gt5 needs to improve

i stilll think gt5 needs to improve sounds, but at many times it hit or miss with cockpit veiw sounds. .. so far i know gt5p is the most HD sound out there.. nothing can compare.. sure other games sounds better, but they dont have the HD quality to them

so comon PD, you have the HD allready delt with, so crisp up the RAW engine sounds!!!

I dont think in any way that Shifts sounds are over exaggerated, its just the pure sound from the cars under load on a dyno.

Normal cars such as a 1 series BMW in Shift sounds just as normal as they do in real life and yet a Zonda or Gallardo screaming along sounds just as terrifying in real life as in game.

When you are in these supercars the sound is even more violent than when your in chase cam view so this stuff about it being quiet inside is silly because sometimes you even go deaf.

Its a well known fact that NFS has been praised for its accurate sound reproduction so its not only me and 'the way I like it'. I like the cars to sound real and GT's dont because its a FACT they are recorded when not on a dyno.

If anyone can prove me cars don't sound in real life like they sound in GT5P, then I'll agree it has bad sounds. If people just keep posting sounds from other games it won't prove anything.

I'm sorry but if the guy wants a good sound, he'd better buy a good sound system. Complaining that the sound is bad in a crappy TV speaker is the same as complaining that the graphics are bad in a SDTV. Just makes no sense.
Uh? Then how comes all the other games don't need an expensive set to to hear realistic sounds? Simply because the developers have better techniques to record them.

About the red GTR IMO I don't think it's a decal, I would bet my money on paint being scratched off "Damage" Though it does look like some sort of decal.
 
Wow I like the damage! because I think ferrari will allow not more... Looks good enough for me! If the Damage keeps like that till you got to repair and paint your car for money that would be awesome...
 
I have been more of a lurker than a participator here at gtplanet, but i would like put my two cents in on damage in gran turismo.

Why do you a lot of you want this extensive damage engine? This is gran turismo we are talking about. The point is not to crash and destroy your car but to race technically and proficiently. If you all want sweet crash-porn go play Dirt or Burnout.

Now, i will say i am satisfied with adding cosmetic damage so at least it is a little more realistic (and i hope they make you pay for repairs), and the fact that when you have a significant crash you pay the consequence by having the car less drivable. That is all i want from a GT game (with one exception, ill explain in next paragraph). If you are crashing around in a GT game then you are not racing.

Now, when it comes to the full damage they have shown, they have it right if they are doing that to all the Rally cars in the game such as the Subaru. Damage plays a big part in Rally and any one who is just a casual follower of rally knows that. So i will say i am happy about a full damage engine when it comes to rally and maybe even nascar.

I really dont think a Gran Turismo game needs an extensive damage engine in all the cars and i hope they havent pushed back the release date for 5 because they are going to implement an extensive damage engine to all cars...

Anyone agree? Disagree? Im down for a mature debate over the matter.

Im Praying for a Livery Editor since 2007 :lol: and Aerodynamic Modifications, so i Hope this is like a subtle Hint for a Livery Editor, like That Mini Cooper:drool:
 
The OP's video sounds alright but its hard to tell with the background noise.
If you want realistic sounds, go try out Live For Speed for the PC, my god they were impressive IMO.

Unfortunately yeah. In the first video the guy was just cruising with the car, and most of it is in cockpit. The second video has very loud music, the car is racing and outside camera.

Still, it looks close to the real thing. However, those videos are a very bad source to compare sounds.


F430 comparison you provided horrible videos. One is a very close shot, the car is stopped, the camera is right next to the exhaust, the guy never revs the car enough. The second is in a race, and the camera never gets close to the exhaust like in the first one.

M3, exact same thing. They are just different situations, can't compare the two.

Art Morrison. Now that's more like it. Both cockpit cam. That we can compare. They both appear to be basically the same however the real one has a lower note and sounds more vibrant and aggressive. You could blame prologue's sound but I blame the horrible mic, reverberations in the guy's living room and possible bad sound system.

You may be thinking I'm just being thick headed but I just don't want to give my final word before I fire my PS3 and have a go at it myself and compare to the real one you provided, but I can't do that now.

Its not about being a crash simulator or anything like that, but we have these super graphics that at times look real but all illusion is lost the moment you hit anything at any relatively fast speed,
In most race crashes even minor looking speeds can result in substantial cosmetic damage( if not always mechanical),
I think back to a recent Le Mans 24hr race(maybe this years) when an R10 spun off before a sharp turn and when it came off the barries/tires it looked liked it had fallen from a skyscraper,
and lets face it most people love to see a spectacular crash(especially when no-one is hurt), Its part of real life, race drivers must deal with the consequences of damge so many of us just want to have to be that little it more careful going through a corner or out-breaking another driver,
Also cosmeticc damage can very often lead to mechanical what with trailing debris/ missing aerodynamical features having dramatic consequences,
and lastly Kaz said they wanted to do it right when they did it, a few scratches dosnt live up to the expectations people have built up over time.
 
iam pretty pleased by the improvements were seeing even if they have caused a fair 'delay' in the games release.

iam not to concerned about things being perfect, sound iam not fussed about as i dont listen to the game anyway and damage has always been low on my list of wanted items.

Yet one thing gives me hope, something that has never been a option before... DLC.

if things aren't perfect PD can adjust them as they wish after release, we get the game before 2020 and pd can carry on obsessing.


iam more interested in the prospect of a livery editor then damage, reminds of the days of cool boarders spending hours editing the boards.

I compared 00:25 from this video to 00:25 (I know same times...weird) from the IGN video because they both sorta show the drone of the engine winding down and then revving from about idle.

What do you guys think?

Mate sorry but with this video u are just reinforcing polyphony’s failure in the sound department. The gt5 Ferrari doesn't sound anything like the real thing.

I must admit I am surprised at the poor engine sound. Can't explain it especially when games like dirt and nfs have more convincing engine sounds, or at least nicer, and the "real driving simulator" doesn't. The funny thing is that before GT5P first major update the car sounds were better.

I hope that sound quality is not being sacrificed for something else!
 
The sounds suck like they do in every GT game...why can't they ever nail them?

The sound in that video posted a few posts above sounds ****ing amazing, while the IGN video sounds so fake and so GT'sh lol
 
The Morrison sounds okay/good in gt5p; not sure why haubi brought that car up in the comparisons. One of the few!

Most car sounds in prologue lack the popping grumble at the exhaust or the high pitched screeching sounds at the engine, and that video posted doesn't sound any better than GT5p unfortunatly.

The F430 in GTP is similar, but there are elements missing about it. Like for example, listen to the way the f430 in the real video gets right on the gas (22 seconds) before he initiates the donut, it has that amazing purr to it. Where as in the GTP F430, you can hear he mashes the throttle (4 seconds), it's just an increase in engine pitch, but it's missing that element where it sounds like the engine is really on it.

Well, from what i understood from the ign (or maybe it was the gamespot one, dont remember) article, all race cars will have full damage effects therefore aerodynamics maybe affected and im ok with that. But if they are doing it for every single car, meaning cars that are just stock, i really dont think they should waste their time.
And when you do have a significant crash, no matter what car, ign confirmed there is mechanical damage that affects driving, which they should have been doing in 3 and 4. (I think they had some effects to that degree in 2 if i remember right.) And that is fine with me, i hate idiots online who ram people, so im happy they are now going to pay for it.
Yes, spectacular crashes are fun, but if you really want that, there are other games out there to fill that void. Gran Turismo isnt a game for that. I'm happy with just cosmetic and mechanical on most of the cars, and full damage model on the hardcore racecar types.
My stance on the matter is, not every single car in the game needs a full damage model.
