Kill your speed, not people đź‘Ť

Speed doesn't kill people - poor driving does. Totally different things, please don't buy into the hysterical propaganda put out by the government.

The single biggest cause of accidents is (and just about always has been) misjudging a situation/lack of attention to a situation.

I would also be fairly sure that the two speeds you mentioned in regards to accidents would not have actually been the final collision speeds, those I believe would be much, much lower.

Example, the current 3-series is a five star EuroNCAP car, and this is what one looks like.....

...after a 64 km/h (40 mph) impact into deformable barrier (which is designed to Simulate typical offset impact into another car), for comparison this is what a '97 C-class looks like after the same test....

...so 70 mph into the back of a transit I don't buy as a final impact speed, not and walk away with minimal injuries (quite honestly I wouldn't even buy the walk away at that sort of speed).

Does it make a difference that the transit was going about 30mph in the same direction? The guy did say he slammed on the barkes but it was too late also. Nevertheless everyone was amazed at how the car held up, for such an incident.

Whats the power output on the altima?

It makes a huge difference, if the Transit was going in the same direction at around 30mph and the other car was doing 70mph then we would have an impact speed of 40mph, add in that braking would also reduce the impact speed and we could well be talking about a final impact speed of around 20mph, significantly different to 70mph. Walking away from a 20mph crash is quite different to walking away from a 70mph crash (as one is quite likely and the other isn't).

What it doesn't change is the fact that your friend needs to watch the road in front of him a lot better; very rarely does an excuse exist for driving into the back of someone.

Tailgating = :dunce:

dunno if he was tailgating. He said at one minute the traffic was flowing at 70mph, then he looked down at his radio, looked up and the traffic had slowed which ofcourse he noticed too late.

"Only a fool breaks the two second rule."

Then he was without a doubt travelling far to close to the car in front.

If you have to look down at the radio then check the gap to the car in front first, increase it to at least twice needed (as Famine says the two second rule), check the traffic around you and then adjust the radio.

However, as I say, only if you must.

Sorry but that accident was firmly your mates fault.

Bah, we got some adhesive ones now. No doubt it'll ruin my lovely red paint work but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to get some hours behind the wheel.

Nice. I think Slick Rick has an Almera too. :-)

Oh, and a bit of disappointment on the insurance front. Morethan rang me about whether I'd take insurance out right now for a lower cost. During this call I told him I'd only had my license about 2 months. He told me they don't insure anyone who's been driving less than a year, but me and my dad saw no indication of this on the website.

Maybe it's a bit naughty, but I've considered just taking it out anyway. Well, they didn't seem to notice until I told them...

Edit: Mr Tophaticent you made me chortle heartily.

Do you list bashing peoples' first cars as a hobby?

:grumpy:

[EDIT]
Danny, I challeneg you to a dodgy cloth seats competition! Yours are almost as funky as mine.

Trust me, you'll be able to make fun of me when I get my first car. ;) Its good to be mobile.

Are you thinking about buying a car? Have you settled on New or Used? It's not an easy decision to make. A new car is guaranteed to work, while an old car is cheaper. With a new car, you can get it in any model, any color, and you get to customize it, while with an old car, you have to take what's available. Buying an old car means you might not have to deal with a pushy salesman, while buying a new car means that you do. Which ever you choose, you're going to need an autoloan and warranty.

Now, for an auto loan. You aren't going to want to finance through the dealership. Most dealerships add 2-3% interest on the rates that's just pure profit for them. When you buy a car, used or new, you don't want to pay any more than you already have to. When you want a loan, get it from a third party, either a bank, or a specialized auto loan lender. Whatever you do, just remember, you want to get a car loan.

Now, as for a warranty, you need one. The car isn't going to be perfect from the time you buy it till the time you want another one. Car parts will break down, or unforeseen events will happen to your vehicle. With the right warranties, it doesn't have to hurt your pocket book. Getting an auto loan helps you save when buy a car, a warranty helps you save while you're driving a car. Warranties come in many ranges of terms and coverage, so choosing the best one for you isn't always an easy decision. You definitely want the big things covered, but the small things, like oil filters and spark plugs, you can handle yourself or get some friendly good advice.

Next time you want to buy a car, don't make an uninformed decision. Doing your homework, by researching how much others have paid, how much you can get in a loan from another source, how much the dealer paid for the car, etc... can really pay off when you do finally purchase a vehicle.

I have now gained another 30 horsepower and 3 seconds off my 0-62.

:D What a way to defile the Honda legacy. My sister has a Daewoo, it's actually not that bad of a car, except for the fact that they don't sell cars in America anymore so parts are few and far between, as is service for it.
