First Car Suggestions? Daewoo FTW. Nothing else Matiz. Oh, and ExigeExcel's Almera.

Not a terrible little car... 800cc and 50hp is actually more than enough to scoot around in city traffic.

But...

How the hell does any full-sized adult fit into one of those things? I'm only 5'5", but I can't stand the seats (too low) and I can't imagine driving one for more than half-an-hour.

You should have gotten the scooter...

At least it aint the Maestro you were offered a few weeks back... :P.

BTW - I do actually like the 3-cylinder thrum the engine makes when you push it. Just don't go racing anyone on the motorway anytime soon... or even anywhere. ;)

Just a wee update regarding insurance.
I did a bit of playing around to see what the quotes would be if I bought insurance when I was 18 (not far off). The following is all third party (f&t)

Elephant kicked things off with £3500
Tesco then made a credible attempt with £2100
Endsleigh could only muster £2600
Churchill then wowwed me with £1800

I continued searching the specialist insurers to no avail...

...when suddenly out of nowhere...

BANG MoreThan offered me £1100.

Wow, I was just about to ask what you were paying insurance wise. I was looking around and slowly calculating how much overtime I'd need to do...

[EDIT] Great, more than only do 18 and over...

And my birthday is in May :grumpy:

If you can wait, then do.

I've tried a few more quotes with them and it's cheaper by quite a way.

Edit: Ok, who's responsible for the thread title?

Have you tried Admiral?

Confused.com, man.

I can't, for the life of me, imagine why no-one suggested a Daewoo Matiz to you before. Still, it looks like a really practical car - you get a boot at the front AND a boot at the back.

@daan But your a mature male driving a Pug' 406 coupe. Oh, and your Scottish which means you'd daren't even get a stone chip on your car for fear of paying a penny to repair it.

Ah well, I've got a fair bit saved, just wish I hadn't had such an expensive summer :indiff:

Yeah, but it's group 18, out of 20. And less of the mature... :grumpy:

And the rest of the post is just racialist. You'd better go. Your cheese on toast is ready.

When I was doing my insurance I went to evryone but morethan. In the ned I went with directline as they were a grand cheaper than the next cheapest. At my renewal date I will give morethan.

I never thought I would come across a modern car that could possibley be outrun by my ladie's 240D, but I guess underneath those Daewoo badges and Grille stolen from a much nicer car there might be a decent piece of metal... somewhere... maybe... if you look really hard

Really, group 18!? I was hoping (stupidly) that one of my parents would get insured on it and I'd just be named. Fraudulent yes, likely to get caught no, cheaper? One hell of alot!

Gotta go, Ewey is calling for me.

I dunno, 5 doors are a huge advantage. You can have your date in the front and a mate and the DUFF in the back.

All my mates compalin about my car being a 3 door, but it just looks so much better than a 5 door that I just had to have it.

Perfect first car to start off with btw there mate.

Luckily for me I'm an old duffer, as you so kindly pointed out, and it only costs me £300.

Parts are hugely expensive though.
Woh woh, I'm not calling any one an old duffer here. I've seen what effect such name calling can have on a man. You're just not a reckless "yuff" anymore. ;)

You sound like my mate. He constantly goes on about the "cockpit" look his lupo has  And how 5 doors make you look like you're a teenage dad. No, it just makes it look like you have friends and that you like them to be able to walk after 30min journey.

I do find climbing in and out of the back of 3 door saxos/Clios/corsas very annoying and I was aiming to get a 5 door, but this Almera is on sale at the same place as my dad is getting his new car so we've had abit of room to do a deal with.

That is a good point, but I'd substitute Patron, or something of that nature. Gets the job done quicker, and makes you forget about how your buddy managed to "join the two you in the front seat".

Well having 5 doors wont make the journey anymore comfortable it just means its less of a hassle to get in and out of the car. The lupo is small though. Another reason why I got a 3 door is that it will be easier to sell on once insurance is kinder to my pocket.

... in an accident.

It's the sort of age range when you're most likely to have one, and I dare say friends would be a lot happier with you when they aren't trapped in a burning car.

(I drive what could charitably be called a 3 door, incidently.)

My car is built like a russian submarine. Its absolutely solid. Know of some guys that have had major crashes ina car like mine such as smashing it into the back of transit at 70mph and another being hit by a deer doing about 80mph, then the car rolling over twice only to rest on the other side of the road and to be hit again. Both guys came out pretty much unharmed.

But thats beside the point, I have had my car long enough now and had my first accident in it to honestly put hand on heart that ive got all my speeding/reckless driving urges out of me. (I crashed when I was actually not speeding for once but more a failure on my part to replace my rather worn out front tires, a direct result from prior speeding. But it has taught me a lesson. Having to pay 2 grand to get my left front suspension fixed is not fun. Insurance is only there incase I write my car off and because its a requiremnt of the law. Im too young to use it on minor damage as I would only get hammered come renewal time.

Which brings me back to saying that the matiz is the perfect 1st car. I wish I had smashed up the front suspension in one instead of my car, as then I wouldnt have had a costly repair bill.

Kill your speed, not people 👍

It's got, 0.6 ltr more, 2 doors less, and a much more respectable badge.

That's right, I've got the Nissan Almera 1.4 :D I'll get pics as and when I can, certainly won't be tomorrow as I am busy, busy.
