Long time GT fan from PS1 days and massive racing game fan in general and I have to say that GT7 is the most impressive racing game/sim ever in my opinion and a standout PS5 title.
My impressions have good from "Wow this is pretty" to "OMG this is a revelation!!"

The presentation, the crazy but good UI, the lovely jazzy funky music, the in game sound, the new handling model and of course the insane graphics. The whole package is just incredible.
Not perfect of course but I can honestly say I have not played a game that impressed me so much as GT7 in a LONG time. The longer I play the more it impresses me which is unusual for modern games.
I've played for around 10hrs using the dual sense and the sense of control I get from it is so good. I don't use adaptive triggers but the haptics are very good.
Have not tried it with my G29 wheel yet. That's today's fun task.
My only negatives is the slightly boring A.I and maybe a few strange physics behaviour on some cars but even the best hardcore sims like ACC or AMS2 have similar issues.
The car selection could be more expansive but more cars and tracks and other goodies are coming and the amount of content already there is more than enough to keep my busy for months.
Very happy racer here :-)
Did you try GT Sport? That game is gorgeous on PS4 Pro, a lot nicer looking than GT7 on the same machine. I have bought the PS4/PS5 version of GT7 so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that GT7 on PS5 is a decent visual step up from GT Sport.

Updated impressions - Just tried adaptive triggers for the first time and wow what a difference it makes to the feel of the car. I was never a fan of adapter triggers so I had it turned off in the PS5 settings and vibration set to medium. But I thought I'd test it as someone on another board said it was amazing and their were not wrong.
Change vibration back to default (strong) and triggers back to default (strong) and it feels a lot more subtle and controllable than its use in other games.
This game continues to impress me more and more.
The only real gripe is the spinning out when using FR cars. Had to put ASM back on to make those cars less prone to spinning but otherwise the game is still a 10 out of 10 for me.

I would even say it looks better than GT7 on PS5. I'm racing on N24 on ps4 pro, and was playing GT7 on ps5 in between races yesterday. The version of N24 that's up now on GTS looks amazing in HDR. GT7 HDR is a mess, Goodwood circuit was downright ugly. The brief time I tried the Nordschleife in a GT7 lobby made me weep lol. Maybe it was the weird sun angle the host chose, however the version on GT Sport right now is also with low sun.

It makes sense in a way. GT Sport has pre-baked fully ray raced light and shadow maps. GT7 does it real time, no way the ps5 can match the server farm they used to pre-bake GT Sport's lighting. So in GT7, the cars look better, the track environment looks worse :/ It's a mixed bag. Same for replays, cars look slightly better, but that underpowered ray tracing can't make the tracks look as good.

The career mode disappointed me thoroughly. I disliked GT Café and the game just keeps stuffing my garage full of cars; My hopes for a good Simulation mode have been dashed, honestly, I'm not sure why racing games nowadays fail so hard at delivering a decent campaign.

Nitpick and personal opinion, I don't like the UI or the menus. My personal opinion, maybe this homogenised bland iPod graphic design has ran it's course as an aesthetic, and it's time to be creative again and make distinctive menus. GT4, hell, even GT6 had minimalistic designs, and they looked prettier, were easier to navigate, and were more unique.

On the positive side, driving feels absolutely fantastic, the game is gorgeous, the tracks are great, dynamic weather is here. This game is super worth it; Shame about the campaign though.

See, even though I don't agree on the campaign, I respect opinions like yours. Balanced, not everything is doom and gloom. I can see someone liking basically all of it, but I can't see someone hating all of it. It's just too good in certain aspects

The fact is, things like the campaign and art direction will always be subjective and contentious. They are never going to be able to please everyone in that department, and me in particular, I like to complain.

On the other hand, the handling model is fantastic, driving feels amazing in this game, it's very beautiful, on the technical side, this game is absolutely an achievement.

Soooo... 1.5 days of playing, 1.200km of driving in so time to give my impressions.
First off, I don't care about graphics. Yes it looks good, but that's all I can say about it.

Then the first thing I noticed are the physics. I have a Fanatec GT DD Pro with Boost Kit and it feels amazing. In my opinion they aced it with it being difficult without it getting frustrating quickly. I haven't tried it with the pad, but if it is remotely similar to the wheel it must be sooo difficult, at least with driving aids off.
I really enjoyed the driving, it feels so much more alive than GT Sport did.

Then also the small changes to the camera perspectives they made. That the cockpit cam is no longer static but is reacting to G forces etc. was a really good decision. Bumper cam seems a bit high, but otherwise feels good too.

I also like the menu, I don't think it is confusing. Except for the tuning shop - I'd rather have it categorized by type of parts (similar to earlier GT games) then the rating Sport/Professional/Extreme etc. - it just makes it harder to fully tune it without buying some parts twice if you don't pay attention.

Then the "career". I really like the idea of the GT cafe and that it slowly introduces everything. At some point I would've tried to get every car available, so I'm quite happy you're given them in such high numbers.
One thing I don't really like are the roulette tickets, or at least the way they are presented. I don't like this "gambling" element in games.

Haven't tried out Multiplayer yet, that will come at a later point.

The only thing I have to criticize for now is that before you start a race, you don't have any idea about whether a track is wet or rain is coming. None at all. A bit of preparation would be nice, especially if it's a championship with multiple races where you can't simply back out, change settings and try again without starting the championship over.

So for now I'm very happy. Currently at cafe 33 so the ending there is coming closer (I read 39 is the last one?). Then I also have the driving missions left open, the track experiences etc. - I hope it will be enough for some time, and then I will also try to dive into Sports mode again

On a positive note the engine sound is absolutely fantastic and cerebral in bumper cam, but a bit muted in hood cam, which is my preference. I’d love to be able to choose the combination of sound and view. Gear changes are immense; they really have a fantastic violent quality to them.
That they do. With the dualsense controller you really feel the 'clunk' when changing the gears in certain cars. It feels different by car as well. Although I don't like the adaptive triggers, the haptic feedback from the controller is far surpassed my expectations.

I wonder though, what that ticking sound is after you win a race. Is that the confetti hitting the car? Sort of sounds like driving over a gravel road.

Sound effects are great as well. Driving on Tokyo central you really hear and feel the concrete road joints. Engine noise is great (after turning the music down)

I hope they fix the bug some of us are having where the cafe menu won't go pass the first menu.
In one of the threads here, bug reports or other, speaks of deleting both the console save and the cloud save and restarting cleats the "progress glitch"

In a different point of the topic...
Some of the smaller things in GT7 makes me smile like the "brake zone " in GTS I relied on the brake indicator in the HUD to help me with my braking and when I should apply, and with the new brake zone that is dynamic it helps with finding the proper braking points easier.
I also had jumped into a 5 lap GR3 race at Maggiore and found out the physics have changed on tyre wear, the RH tyres were barely showing red on tops of indicators in HUD and I was sliding all over, similar to when half the tyres are red in GTS..

The ticking sound is the sound of your engine cooling down after the race. Another lovely touch.
I noticed that when you hit something in game with the sound depends on what you hit and sparks fly off the side of the car if you scrap against concrete.

You can up the engine sound in the audio section in option maybe that might help you bro!

I really do enjoy my time playing the GT Cafe and finding the events in the World Circuits were easy to locate than I originally thought. Before the game came out, I originally thought that all the tracks were open and assumed that I have to browse through the tracks and find x event. But the game marks the tracks in the World Circuits with the event I need to do and not every track is available until I progress through GT Cafe. I have yet unlock Mission Challenge so that I am looking forward to try. My only gripe about this game is that there’s so much text reading every time I visit the cafe and progressing through the license test. I know I need to do the next menu book. The game needs to tell me once and that’s it.

What settings are you running on your DD pro?

I’m struggling to get the feel I had in GTS. Leads me to believe that the FFB in GT7 isn’t up to par yet

It's there. Just needs some tweaking and learning the new language. Mess with in game settings then tune to taste with the wheelbase. Upping the torque 8 to 10 unless it's GR1 helps with detail.

Sensitivity will add some weight to the wheel but I've been at 1 with controller sensitivity on 3 on my DD1 with decent results so far. Not sure if you'll have any clipping issues with the DD pro. If so you can knock it down a bit with the base so you're getting more signal from the game.

Got it yesterday. The game is fantastic. On a LG OLED C1 it just shines on HDR, fantastic graphics.

I made a little comparison to GTSPORT on PS5 and this game looks 3x better, everything from shadows to LOD transitions look amazing now.

It's real Gran Turismo, makes me want to play it all the time. I loved GTS but this different, classy and polished to the fullest. Might just be the best or second best of all time as there are no standard cars or tracks. Maybe only GT4 is above but I only played 1 hour here.

The AI is not as bad as I thought, on the Café races they are chase the rabbit dumb AI. But on the standing starts with AI tuned cars, they put up a fight.

Physics are fantastic, lively cars and not the numb GTS physics engine. The sound is much better too with a lot of new details...

I have no gripes with the game yet, it's been a blast for shore

PS4 PRO, G29, 5.1 AMP and Speakers, Old Sony 32 inch screen. (Not 4K)

I will start with something odd.
My favourite Granturismo formats were GT Sport and GT5 Prologue.
This was due to their simplicity(less grinding) and online race systems which were about racing and not tuning.
So lets say so far I am not exactly happy with GT7. The online races I have seen so far, are all about tuning a car to win. Hopefully when the championships start we go back to what we had in GT sports. One makes races or BOP races for categories.

Physics = rubbish for RWD cars in GT7. Make that FR, MR and RR platforms.
If there are people out there who thinks this is how RWD cars behave in the real world, I don't know what to say.
I have been tracking RWD cars for over 10 years. Just started dabbling with AWD with my GR Yaris and had a FWD Clio 3 RS 200 very briefly for 6 months as well.
In a stock MX-5/Miata on any race track on road tires in the real world you can just floor it in a tight corner and you will pretty much have no effect unless you purposely throw a hard input of steering or drop the clutch mid corner.
Touch the throttle in GT7 mid corner and it is guaranteed to start sliding. Stand on it and around you will go.
More powerful FR road cars in GT7 forget it. Pretty much have to roll through the corners.
Have not driven a race car yet.
The FWD cars seem OK from what I have experienced on race tracks. Lift off oversteer etc. Comes back when you accelerate.

I am using a G29, but I don't think that is to relevant as I am seeing multiple people with different setups complain about the RWD car physics.
It does not provided the best feel.
I have found a bug with the G29 though in this game. When looking at car details in the collection, you cannot scroll down the little story they have. Yet it works in all other menus.

Screen setup was a joke with those patterns. Did it exactly what it said to do.
After doing that initial setup everything is just a black hole in dark scenes and a white out in bright scenes.
Can't seem to make it much better with the 2 sliders either. The dark got a bit better, but the bright screens are still a white out.

Sound is not quite right.
I am using a 5.1 AMP. I appear to not be getting the bass channel in this game. The centre speaker in much more quiet than sport. The rear speakers also are very quiet. Have set the game to 7.1 mode(same as GT sport). Every other game I have seems to work right except this one.

The AI is making me laugh.
They are on rails as usual.
Still the same chase the rabbit format as per every other GT game released.
Overtake 7 cars in 2 laps, so realistic..
No qualifying.
Big variance of cars on the grid.

The restrictions on the career races are also lack lustre.
I used a Japanese car in one of the European races.
In used an old Mini in a modern hot hatch race.

GT Cafe. Grrr.
I gather this is their attempt of a story mode.
This has made what should be a classical GT games not so classical as it is sort of forcing you down a certain path to play through the game.
Maybe it will open up as I progress further? I am at 12 or 13 ATM.
Very annoying that you had to play through this to unlock basic features available in other GT games out of the box.

Where is the simple arcade mode to just have a quick go at something?
It is sort of there in world circuits, but going through that open world menu structure is slow and clunky.
A simple arcade mode like every other GT game would make so much more sense.

Smoke effects are over done. Jus did the challenge around the oval and the big American tanks had smoke pouring out their front right tyres at every corner.

Can I say anything positive.
The graphics look prettier other than the dark bright scene issue.
The load times are pretty quick compared to other past GT games.
Some new great cars in the game.
Dynamic time and weather. Rain into a tunnel is a bit weird though. Goes from full wet to dry. Water does not drag in.

Will play through the game regardless but I thought they would have learned lessons from the past.

I've played some more (16 hours play time, 9 hours time driven). I got license all gold and finished all 39 cafe menu things. Still only using PS5 and Dual Sense. I like the new vibration of Dual Sense, but I don't like its repulsive trigger as it doesn't provide much of help for me while making my hand tired. I found that my times are usually better without those repulsive triggers.

License gold time is still a bit loose. From B to IB, I usually got gold on my first try and rarely needed more than 2 tries to get gold. From IA to S, I usually got silver on my first try, and then gold on the second or third try. Only few of them have a tight time window, so more often than not, you could shave off more than 0.5 second from the gold time (or more than 1 second for those full lap tests). It is tighter than GT Sport, but that's about it.

The cafe menu thing has not much to see. There are roughly 10 mandatory driving events (mostly championships), and you can buy your way through for the rest (which is what I've done for some menus). For those championships, you would need national A license and roughly 3 cars, a 600PP road car, 700PP Gr.4 car, 800PP Gr.3 car (the other championships don't have pp limit, so you can just drive your fastest car that satisfy the requirements). No IB or above race, no endurance race. Pretty short overall.

Sport mode still needs a lot of work. It's a tune fest at this moment (which is easily fixable), and lacks many features (probably gonna need some time to fix).

Got my ps5 and GT7 on Friday, and this game is everything i've been waiting on. The depth of customization combined with the level of detail Polyphony is famous for, is something I've been craving from a racing game. The driving has been good so far, good mix of ease of progression, but challenging races. I like the GT Cafe dynamic and the collection aspect. Only thing I really miss is the older Japanese cars from GT4 that aren't likely to make an appearance in GT7, like the R30 and R31 Skylines, and kei cars. Also the ghost differential on the HUD is no longer a thing which is a great shame, it helped me so much in GTSport not getting distracted by the ghost car but still being able to see my delta time to it.

Forza 7 graphics and realism is superior. Even just F7 menus are better. GT7 feels like Nintendo bought a video card from 5 years ago, recycled the menu sounds from sonic the hedgehog and asked an intern to design the menu and UI. The AI is better in GT7 tho, it's not a destruction derby in turn 1. Excited by the Sophy marketing hype they have generated for that. Although the start in last place finish in first within 2 laps gets old by about the 5th race. There is nothing about GT7 that makes you want to keep playing except that the cars you really want to drive aren't available yet and you have to jump through a bunch of hoops still.
The Wonk, Wonk, Wonk, Bleep at the start of the race makes me feel physically ill and it is impossible to turn down the volume or off completes of that sound effect. The finish line music is from an 80 midi keyboard. Why do you force me to watch a replay that I will never ever have any desire to watch? Why do I have to close the race result screens several times?
Drive lines are lies and braking areas are garbage. Not even the AI uses them. RWD performace? Was this signed off by a ice skating student?
License tests are too difficult for controller based performace. The vehicle provided is not the same setup as the vehicle in the demo - you can see assists on the demo car lighting up. At least tell me their setup.
The cafe visits slow the game down so much and provides nothing in return. Listening to a typewriter talk? My gameboy did that.
I honestly can't believe that I am wasting my time with this game. Time to fire up Sega GT 2002 and do some real sim racing and come back to this is 6 months when it has some updates.

Im relieved, finding the game much better now that Ive dialled the settings in to a sweet spot... had to turn off trigger resistance and haptics, reduce sensitivity of the controller and fully remove all assists and counter steer. The trigger resistance was the main problem it was removing all the subtlety you need to hit your correct lines, even on its lowest setting. Hopefully the haptics and trigger resistance will get a bit of an overhaul in an update they need to be more subtle.

Can anyone tell me where the Brake and corner Cones are? Now i have the lines and Brake zones on the road i dont want that.....

Holy moly! I just tried the GT Cup Gr.3 @ Suzuka Circuit. It's an entirely different game! If you're into fast racing give it a go with the preorder bonus car (the Castrol Supra). Absolutely incredible! It puts the road cars to shame, and the AI are far far better. Wow! It's also way easier to control the car than the road cars, the downforce makes a huge difference. A LOT of fun. This is what I wanted! Shame you can have a proper race weekend with qualifying, cus then it'd be perfect.

sounds good mate, clocked that, but been focusing on Cafe races.

Concerned it will spoil going back to lower bhp cars once I've tried it though...

I can’t get better than 4th lol.

My biggest takes from maybe 5 hours with the game.

Positives:

1. Physics are improved. Game is trickier.
2. It's pretty.
3. Single player is great.
4. An insane number of upgrade parts.
5. Presentation is excellent.
6. Sound is good.
7. Love the used car market.
8. No drowning in credits after an hour.
9. Start off in **** cars and work towards good ones.
10. Great variety, especially after years of Gtsport.

Negatives:

1. The in game economy is heavily scewed toward microtransactions because...
2. Credits aint rolling in easy, I know this is a great thing but not so much when combined with...
3. Everything costs a lot of credits, especially upgrades, which is particularly bad because...
4. Online Sport races (or at least some of them) will now allow upgrades to cars, which means you'll be draining your account each week like nobodies business which some could argue makes the game almost...
5. PAY TO WIN. The three dirtiest words in all of gaming.
6. Even paint colours cost 2000 credits each, fml.
7. The game runs great but in no way shape or form is it a locked 60 (on ps5).
8. Just three dailies to choose from in Sport mode again? You kidding me? That's progress after six years of Gtsport?
9. Music rally can get in the sea.
10. Microtransactions, microtransactions, microtransactions...
