-FITT Hot Version Drivetrain Challenge-

Welcome to the FITT Challenge, this time we will be trying to settle the age old debate about which drivetrain is faster. We will put the cars to the ultimate test on winding mountain roads, city streets and racetracks alike to prove once and for all who is the king of the road.

Will you choose the stability and grip of a front-wheel drive or favor the raw thrill of a rear-wheel drive? Do you go for the tried and tested front engine layout or go for the more edgy mid ship layout? Maybe you want the best of both worlds and a four-wheel drive will be your route to victory?

There will be two classes with a representative from each drivetrain to choose from, you may enter either class or both if you should wish. If you enter both classes then you may not choose the same drivetrain twice, this is just to keep things varied and to test your tuning abilities.

This will be a two track, one tune challenge, you must tune your car to suit both tracks as there will be no changes allowed in between. The times from each track will be combined to form your overall time and this will decide your position at the end of the challenge. The Drivers Choice section will be a separate award as usual.

ABS will be optional for tuners this time around, this means that testers must drive the cars as described by the individual tuners request for either ABS 0 or ABS 1.

Toyota Sprinter TRUENO GT-APEX (AE86) '83:

The final hurrah for lightweight rear-wheel drive sports cars from Toyota before switching over to the more efficient FF and 4WD drivetrains that would dominate its future lineups. Known as the Hachi-Roku or 8-6 in its native tongue, the light weight chassis is home to the perky and popular DOHC 4AGE 1.6l inline 4 motor that has powered the car to many victories both on and off the track. This car has been an icon of both the street racing, circuit racing and drifting across the world and has been forever immortalized in the eyes of many thanks to its part in the Initial D Anime/Comics.


Honda Civic SiR -II (EG) '91:

This fifth generation Civic proved to be a turning point in Honda's international popularity by proving that performance could be both reliable and inexpensive. At the heart of the car is the bombproof and intoxicating 1.6 DOHC VTEC motor that would keep howling through the upper rev ranges for decade after decade without ever skipping a beat, twinned with a taught and well designed double wishbone suspension system this car still feels fresh 15 years later.


Mitsubishi GTO SR '95:

Born out of an unlikely collaboration between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, the GTO takes its name from the 2 door Galant Coupe of the 1970's. Standing for Gran Turismo Omologato, this car was certainly created with the intention of being a race car for the road and having a big naturally aspirated 24v DOHC V6 lump at the front certainly sees to that. Helping the power get to the road is the trusted 4WD system that Mitsubishi is most famous for which works in conjunction with a clever four wheel steering system that makes the car feel a lot more nimble than its size would suggest.


Toyota MR2 1600 G '86

This was Toyota's first voyage into the world of mid engined cars and it proved so fruitful that it would certainly not be their last. The name MR2 comes from the original design criteria notes where it was simply known as the "Mid-engine Runabout for 2", once learned by the public this name became synonymous with all future mid-ship Toyota's. Behind the drivers seat lies the same engine from the AE86 in the form of the 1.6l 4AGE which gives it more than enough punch to launch the lightweight roadster down the road at a dramatic rate. The handling can only be described as 'Unique' and will not be to everyone's tastes, it certainly takes a while to learn how to use the car ability to rotate effectively and you may need to buy some fresh trousers afterwards.

From the chassis through to the roof, everything on this car is designed to give a focused and pure driving experience. Dubbed "the demon-lord of mountain roads" by Keiichi Tsuchiya, this modified classic is bound to set pulses racing and light up the timing screens.

This Gran Turismo tuned Integra represents the peak of what is possible when putting power to the front wheels. A feather light chassis combined with the screaming 2.0l K20Z1 VTEC unit makes this a car to be truly feared on the race track. Cars based around the same chassis and engine have dominated Touring Car championships across the world since their introduction and are still competing more than 10yrs later with very little changed.



Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR Touring Car '05

Another Gran Turismo take on a legend of both circuit and rally racing across the world. This time attention turns to the 4WD traction monster that is the Mitsubishi Evo IX, being the 9th iteration means that they've had an awfully long time to get the recipe right and the way this thing sticks to the ground almost defies physics. Mitsubishi's renowned four wheel drive system is twinned with the heavily turbocharded 2.0l 4G63 MIVEC engine so it delivers a fearsome punch out of every corner without fail. The car has the grip and the grunt taken care of, all you have to do is hold on and try to keep your breakfast down while it bends physics around you.



Acura NSX LM Race Car '91

A car developed and influenced by a variety of sources, styled originally by the Italian design house Pininfarina and apparently echoing the lines of an F16 fighter jet the NSX was built to take on the fastest cars that Germany and Italy could muster at the time. It aimed to achieve this with the use of a 3.0l C30A DOHC all aluminium V6 tuned specifically to give reliable and explosive performance at high RPM, this twinned with an all aluminum body and a chassis whos design was influenced by the inputs of Formula 1 racing legend Ayrton Senna. All of these features combined to create a truly sublime mid engined car that never really got the acclaim it deserved outside of its home country where it is revered as one of the greatest cars ever to grace a Honda forecourt.

Testers

Scoring:
Each class will have 2 podiums, one for fastest lap time averaged across all testers. And one podium for Driver’s choice, each tester will score each tune on the scale listed below. Driver’s Choice scores will then be averaged across all testers. The maximum of DC points that can be earned is 10 points. Please choose DC on a scale of 0.0 -10.0.

Drivers Choice Scale:
10.0 Among the best tunes you have driven in GT6
7 to 9 A great tune that could be a little better if …..
4 to 6 A good tune that needs a few adjustments to become a contender
Under 4 A tune that needs work (please be specific with feedback with any tunes listed here)

Testers are reminded to test all cars in arcade mode with grip set to real, all cars must be tested with Traction Control (TCS) set to 0. ABS is optional in this event and must be tested as stated by the tuner, if they choose ABS 0 then you must test at ABS 0.
Please give all cars an equal amount of laps when testing to give them all the same chance to put in a good lap.

My first car was a '77 Toyota Corolla Liftback. Basically a Sprinter. Loved it. Drove it for about six years (wow, that long? Didn't realize it.) till some guy T'd me in the ice. I didn't know what I had. Can't wait to get back into this car for a while, even if it is only virtual.

About ABS, I always listed both ABS 0 and ABS 1 brake balance recommendation on all of my tune/replica, what if the testers encounter problems because the brake balance I set for ABS 0 is too high for him as he used different input device ( DFGT pedals ) ? Mmmmm, maybe I should stick ABS 1 on testers or use very low BB at possible brake performance loss just to be safe

Only the cars listed are available, no model variances to save confusion. I believe you can put a supercharger on it anyway so its not like you lose anything.

Perhaps the early 90's porn producer look of the GTO? Then again the "Make it look like every hatchback ever" look of the AE86 could be the apple of your eye?

Yeah, 1HP or 1kg may be enough I may experiment with closer distribution to real life by adding ballast, even though the stock weight is already higher than the actual GT2.
