Lack of testers. The latest competitions have had far more tuners than testers. And most of the testers are tuners. How can we attract more people to try our tunes and provide feedback? Do we need a major revamp on how we do tuning competitions?

Not saying that this will fix things, just laying out an interesting idea to get more people driving our tunes. We, the tuning forum could sponsor the A-spec seasonals, each and every one of them. When the next A-spec seasonal gets posted on a Wednesday, we have until Sunday night to post a tune. Then we open up a poll thread in the seasonals area - FITT Tunes for the 430 seasonal. Most votes for favorite car wins. Voting closes when the next seasonal gets posted. Then maybe also keep track of a FITT leader board for the fastest reported times with our tunes. The seasonal racers benefit from using awesome tunes and gaining the recognition of being fastest. Maybe we always try to do 50PP below the limit? Just an idea. Maybe call the FITT Quick Seasonal Challenges?

That's a good idea, although the only flaw I can see is the ridiculous amount of FRs you'd need to accept, since not many people are willing to build a tune especially if it's an obscure Standard car they can't find.

I very much like that idea, Hami! That would definitely get us some quick exposure. There are always folks in the seasonal forum trying this and that car to see if it can be done. The FRs could be a problem for those with full lists *coughrojcough* but I imagine there would be repeat folks after the initial "setup".

If every single one is too much maybe we could do every other one or something and definitely shoot for under the PP limit.

This is a good idea, let's develop it some more!

Sounds good Hami.👍👍
Are you volunteering to set it up and manage it?
I'm pretty much at the limits of what I can keep up with around here due to having only my cell phone to work off of.

My list isn't full anymore actually and I've got a second PSN anyway. :P

Maybe. I really like the new seasonal format.

Are A-specs only once per month now, or every three weeks? Maybe these should be more loose and not so much a competition. I just see people using our tunes all the time for seasonals, seems like we could get organized and get some exposure to the Fitt Challenges. Maybe use our participation in seasonals to ask for test drivers for our challenges? We just need to be organized and start a FITT Tunes thread for each A-Spec Seasonal. We could do a B-spec or two if people are up for it. If it is more loose we could even post as many cars as we like as tuners. I know that I've built about ten 350 to 380PP tunes while playing with the current A-Spec.

That's a good idea, although the only flaw I can see is the ridiculous amount of FRs you'd need to accept, since not many people are willing to build a tune especially if it's an obscure Standard car they can't find.

True. Cannot make this require friend requests. There is something interesting in this idea.

Another idea for getting word out is doing something with the Car of the Week threads.
While tuning and testing cars in that quick of time isn't easy or something you probably want to do every week, having a F.I.T.T. mini Shootout with 3 or 4 tuners each week tuning that weeks CotW could be a boost for both.

Great idea, you won't have the biggest problems with FRs this way. 👍

I wouldn't mind to do a small competition - Kubelwagen and Midget , they can both acheve same hp , same weight and same top speed..

That wouldn't be a competition, that would be torture.

Oooh 1000th post on this thread :P

EDIT: Showing 1000th post on the gtplanet app at least...

Hey, I know some time back we were looking for a pemplate for the testers to use. In my shootout four testers copied MrGrados and it worked really well. Here it is:

Format borrowed from MrGrado (again). Hope he doesn't mind!

Times
ABS - 1, Tire Wear - On, Grip Reduction - Real

x:xx.xxx - Bubba
x:xx.xxx - Lassie
x:xx.xxx - Ima Jutz
x:xx.xxx - you get the picture

Yeah think that was the one I was looking for.👍👍

Hey do the tunes have to be online or do u guys take honest offline tunes as well as I do not have an online connection.

The majority of Shootouts are held offline. This enables tuners and testers to 'share' cars. Shared cars can't be used online 👍

Oh hey thanks man my driving style may be a pinch dif from other folks as I have a tendacy to turn of the abs (all other aids also), I also like to have the sensitivity control set on seven. If that is allowed? I also use a ds3 controller and an HKS one to tune my cars. I also am heavy on the Japanese car side.

It's allowed, but you'll find yourself at a disadvantage since most of the tuners use ABS:1.

Wallbanger's 2nd Annual FF Summer Shootout is up and rolling!:gtpflag:

Yes Ol'Harvey proves yet again that he is crazy with his track selection.
Hope you all don't mind eating a little dust as this can be a real blast given a chance.

Just my 2 cents on the whole Friend Request thing: I think the tuner should be responsible for sending all the FRs. Mainly because there are always less testers than tuners, so it is easier for the tuners to do this. If a tuner has not sent all the FRs by the tuner deadline, perhaps they should be DQed.

At the last comp, it was a PITA getting ShmoGT to accept my FR (had to chase him with PMs...and then he had the nerve to whinge that his car was getting ignored by testers :grumpy: ) even after the tuner deadline had passed (double :grumpy:). I very nearly threw in the towel, in the end I only tested his to get the complete set because I felt sorry that the organisers had gone through such a hard time. But, anyway, to have to chase tuners or re-plan testing because a car isn't on sharing is really frustrating. And given that it's always hard to find testers, I think the events should make things easier for them where possible. </rant>

Nice one, Harvey, for organising the FF #2. Unfortunately I need a break from FFs (ie a detox session to cleanse myself by frying some rear tyres!!) so I'm sitting this one out. Hope it goes well.

That was the rule in my last shootout, and I agree, for all the same reasons.
It's much easier to add 5 people than 30. As tuners, and tunes being the star of the show, I think it's almost an obligation, call it a thank you for testing if you need.

Agreed with the above. Since the tuners have to share the cars they should add the testers at the same time and keep an eye on the thread to see if there are new folks signing up. They are all in there whining about feedback anyway. :D:tup:

Hi folks,
I am kicking around ideas for a 460pp road car shootout on sports soft tyres. The aim is to have as many cars as possible being competitive. This means the cars which could cause a whitewash at this level need to be banned unfortunately. So far I have identified these cars as being unusually fast: Suzuki GSX-4/R, Lotus Esprit and Lotus Evora. Can you think of any other road cars which would dominate a shootout at this level?

Also, in a previous shootout, there was some fuss about a car which has front downforce, but you need to add the wing for it to show up. Can anyone remember which car this was?

Thanks,
Simon

Thanks guys. Any excuse to ban the R35, eh Onboy??

Just to mix things up a bit, the idea I have is a "60/40, 40/60, 460pp tuning challenge". So most cars will need to be ballasted to achieve this. In the quick tests I did, the NSX-R and Elise 111R weren't spectacularly quick in this configuration (which was surprising for the 111R). I'll look into the M3.

EDIT: The M3 won't go to 60/40 or 40/60 so it wouldn't be eligable anyway.

Hmm…that's actually quite a good idea…I've not really seen any Supras or R32s and the like in recent shootouts, even the Japanese one we had a while ago, would be quite good if there was a shootout for these cars…

Maybe we should do a "Beat the --PP cheese car" event.

And Nomis, of course, what else were you expecting from me?

The Viper ACR also has front downforce as well as the Enzo. There are a few others but I don't recall them off the top of my head.

Actually, my camber setting was messed up on the NSX-R I tested. Indeed it is too fast, therefore it must be banned :P

I'm getting quite keen to make this happen sometime. How do I get an event "FITT Approved"? When is the next free slot in the FITT calendar?

Anyway, all the "overweight Renaults" can't get to 60/40 so they're out regardless.

Thanks. I think these hypercars will have lost their teeth by the time they're de-tuned to 460pp. Or do you think one of them could cause a whitewash at 460pp?
