Forced/outlaw, I hope I got out of your way quick enough to not mess with your battle towards the end, you guys seemed to have quite the race going.
You were good. 👍
Great run tonight guys! :) Running 32.1's all week, tons of 31.xx in me but never strung it together. Ran 32.1 in clean air in the race. Well done to Outlaw for an epic battle. Looking forward to an epic Laguna race. All eyes on Adam :)
Again, congrats on the win. I'll be posting our little side-by-side battle on YouTube by tomorrow. If that had happened on the final lap, there would have been a lot more rubbing.

As for whether I'd take Adam or the field...it feels like picking Tiger against the field (when he was good, of course).

@Turbo - Not sure if you caught my message in the lounge, but I'm not going to be available next week. Not sure if I made the final or not, so I'll leave that with you to figure out. ;)

You did actually, so if you are giving up that spot I will move everyone above you up one spot and sort them accordingly. Working on the driver entries for each race right now. 👍

:) Heck yeah, can't wait to see it!!! haha

Honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing Adam in action, and learning from him. I was closer to him here in Madrid than anywhere else, and I know exactly how I could do 31.7 (though I'm sure that was just a crappy lap for him, lol.) I look forward to a good battle. I think with the cream of the crop in the field, someone could hang on to his bumper (at least for a little while.) But I expect him to win outright and look forward to the learning experience and trying to get even quicker by observing him. Great fun this season!

Well that certainly sucked. I actually thought this was my best chance at a decent finish this season. I was trying to be conservative and not cause a pileup in T1, and I got pushed into the wall, dropping me back to 11th. Then crossing the finish line to start lap 3, I was right behind MotorCity and Welsh. Welsh got spun around right in front of me and it was too late to avoid t-boning him. I got spun around myself, then as I was trying to get out of the way, Schadenfreude t-boned me. By the time I got straightened out, I was over 30 seconds down and basically sentenced to 22 hot laps by myself. Forced/outlaw, I hope I got out of your way quick enough to not mess with your battle towards the end, you guys seemed to have quite the race going.

:) good times, you scared the crap out of me, but I got through it just fine, haha:)

Edit: Sorry for double post fail

Thanks buddy, I didn't catch your apology but don't worry, I ruined my own race to start with by having a black screen while the grid was loading, therefore I missed the 'False Start' reminder and just stood on the gas on the grid :(. Then I clipped that wall, causing both you and Schaden I believe to hit me (you guys had nowhere to go), so I felt bad for that. When you put me in the wall, I was a little annoyed at first, hence my post in chat at the time, but got over it. Seemed uncharacteristic of you, but now you've explained, it's quite funny :sly:

Qualifying was so close, great job to Outlaw for pole and great win by Nick. Way to go guys 👍

@Turbo - Not sure if you caught my message in the lounge, but I'm not going to be available next week. Not sure if I made the final or not, so I'll leave that with you to figure out. ;)

Best of luck to all next week :)
Thanks for the early xmas gift.:)I was hoping i was fast enough to make it in on my own,but i am happy i have a shot to race at laguna.

The points and race results pages have been updated. PM incoming shortly to Championship winners for each division. :)

For those interested, you can access the Laguna Seca and Wildcard race entry lists here. 👍

That was quick. You, sir, are awesome!

Assuming I had not DC'ed at Nurburgring, I would have finished tied with you for 2nd in the standings.

My race, GT5 has been acting wonky all week so we had the same connection issues that were rampant in all the races I heard about. Rees couldn't stay connected, minion dropped connection, and CSL didn't make the start. :(

I suck at madrid and hadn't driven there in something like 9 months so I had to put in buckets of practice. Outlaw, Forced and Nepalii got me up to pace; thanks. New qualifying worked perfectly, Nep had the pace he had in practice to put up a solid 32, i put in +0.2 off my pb but green bumped me by a tenth at the end of the session to lock out the front row.

Got off good on lap1, during practice while I was testing tire wear after every left last night I tried running until my times went down. Didn't even notice much wear until lap 22 so pits were going to be ceremonial. That gave me the zany idea to try something fun. So I came into the race with a 1st lap pit strategy. I knew I could run the whole race without going below 33.6. I knew I could run more reliably in clean air. It's hard to pass. Draft isn't much of an advantage. And I thought it would be hilarious for people to see me pull off into the pits at the beginning of the race from P3.

Things were going ok, but cold tires pushed me a bit wide in T5 and spyhunter and I ended up 2 wide through 6,7,8... I was going to tuck in behind him seeing as how I was just going to pit anyway then I got bit by the internet. During practice me and outlaw each saw this odd freakish lag where the other cars we were racing just melted away and left us alone on track. As I was turning into the last tight right (T8?) the cars around me just all slowly drifted into the wall like all the drivers died. It was spooky... then bam! the world slammed back into reality and I was in the wall at the back of the field.

I'm sorry to anyone that got collected. GG inernet... I shrugged that off and went into the pits. Came out +40s and just calmed down and started turning laps. As people cycled in and out of the pits and the 32 & 33s laps clicked away I came up the field passing everyone in the pits (the micheal schumacher way). After the leaders had pit I had worked the gap down to +37s and then when the final pit had been made it was +13 which fell to +11 during the tire warm up. So I figured ~26s pit delta so my bonkers strategy would have worked perfect  I would have been ~2s down track from Nep in 1st after the pit cycle. They both would have caught and passed me for sure but it would have been sweet :D.

During the pits it looked like Wardez pitted earliest and he was the first car I saw from the main field, then carracer was exiting the pits a few laps later and I was just able to zoom by before turn1. Then I continued the long ~10lap march to catching Wardez. I'd finally caught his wind and was finally able to start putting pressure on by around lap 20. I just kept following close, watching the laps go down praying for some wall contact. I finally got it 3 laps from the finish when the yellow bee scrubbed the wall outside the chicane. I pounced on the straight, passed before turn1, kept it tidy under braking and held him off in T2-3. I was happy but he was all over me to get 4th back and while I was trying to drive flawless I clipped the inside of the chicane in such a way that my car was headed straight into the far wall. So I braked as much as possible and kicked the back with the hand-brake to minimize the damage and make sure Wardez and I don't get busted. Jumping back on it I gave it everything I had for the last lap but I only had enough tires to make one pass attempt and defend to the line... Wardez out drove me to the line and I came home fifth.

Cheers Eddie. You had a rough season but that was an excellent way to go out. 👍

here's the end of the race picking up at lap 23 when Wardez gave me a window.

My race, GT5 has been acting wonky all week so we had the same connection issues that were rampant in all the races I heard about.
Yes, it appears that there's definitely something wrong with the GT5 servers and it seems to be getting worse. I have to say it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth but of course, we don't pay for online access so we can only complain so much. Still, if this is going to be an ongoing problem, we may have to account for it next season. Maybe add a race next season and allow us to drop two of them?

Back to the battle itself, very good stuff there. I found out that you can set up a pass starting at the first hairpin that, if done correctly, will have you side-by-side by T6 and possible take the lead at T8. I've done in a few times myself during the week in practice races and Turbo did the same to me once or twice. I almost pulled it off against Forced in the race. It didn't work but as a consolation, I got some epic side-by-side action which still left me grinning after the race.

And here it is! 👍

(Note: If you didn't notice it already, my race vids can be seen in 720p)

Yeah that was me. Already ruined my own race by not getting in the practice time (just got back into town the other night), then I came around that corner almost flat out only to plow into you. After that I just parked it in the pits, figured I was done for the night (and season).

Thanks for posting videos everyone. I'm glad that has caught on. :)

Since there will be no stream for the final race I hope someone will post the entire replay from their perspective on youtube.

Tim - I was going to pit on lap 1 too :P I ran 33.4 on lap 28 last night, realized it would be quickest to avoid the 3 cold laps rather then pit anytime later. Ran only 32.5 pb this week, but with a solid lap was looking for 31s. See you in the wildcard race.👍

outlaw4rc's Racing Report

Started 1st, Finished 2nd

Team Red Bull/Outlaw Racing (TBO Racing) had high hopes entering the tricky corners of Madrid, earmarking the track as another golden opportunity to add a win. The weekend went off to a good start with solid times in the practice sessions but a problem quickly arose.

"I liked the times that I put down but the car had trouble rotating properly exiting the last chicane. I noticed that many of my competitors pulled away from me just enough that I couldn't set up a pass entering T1 or even T2. I knew this was a problem since that's the main passing zone at this track.

Qualifying also posed a problem as the competition stepped up their efforts and soon, the Red Bull Miata stood mired in 3rd. However, with time running out, the driver made one last ditch effort and surprisingly, eked out the pole position, running a then personal best.

It proved to be beneficial as Team Welsh, who would have started 2nd before the pole run, had a mechanical problem at the start, allowing the driver and Team Forced to have a clean start off the line and slowly break away from the pack. However, forced managed to get around outlaw in the early laps.

"We were side-by-side entering and I braked a little early, thinking he would cook the tires since they were still a little cold. He somehow hung on and got in front of me at corner entry. I had to admit that was a very slick move.

outlaw then stayed behind forced until the cycle of pits stops began. The Red Bull Miata, with less wear on its tires, stayed out an extra lap, hoping to push the car enough to get ahead of forced. It was not enough, however, as forced just got around outlaw entering T1.

I saw him coming and thought he would be forced to stay behind me but he pushed and went on my inside. I tried to go outside and back in at T2 but with cold tires, it didn't work.

The Red Bull Miata continued trailing forced until an opportunity came at Lap 21 when outlaw got a run off T3 and made an outside attempt at the T5-T8 complex.

"I made a mental note that the outside would be the preferred line for an overtake and I got in there pretty good. Unfortunately, I couldn't clear him off T8 and we ended up side-by-side all the way to the runabout complex. I still had a nose on him exiting and he went wide just enough to nudge my car and I was forced to lift and fall behind.

outlaw continued on and had another opportunity on the front stretch on Lap 24.

"Forced nicked the wall at the chicane and that allowed me to get a run on but he kept his car on the middle of the track. When I got close to his bumper, I darted to his right to get around but his car drifted that way as well. I all but ran out of room and we touched so I had to fall back again. I honestly don't know what really happened there."

A final opportunity came on the last lap approaching the last chicane.

"At that point, I was right on his bumper and I hoped to keep tucked in behind but my brakes didn't cooperate and I tapped him entering the corner. My car got out of shape and I was all wrong for the exit."

outlaw finished the race in 2nd Place and 4th Overall in Division 2.

"I'm a little disappointed since I don't think our standings reflect how we performed this season but we got our win and the crew is very excited to travel to Laguna Seca for championship weekend. I really don't know what to expect other than fierce competition. We'll put our best out there and cross our fingers.

Replied Turbo, hopefully those times are good for everyone else :D.

I have replied as well to Turbo for the times for the World Championship race. I made it European friendly :D. Man, Im so pumped up already, and its only Monday!! Cant wait for that race!!

Hi All,

How can I join in the remaining races of this series? If not, are there other series running now that offer cash and prizes like this one?

Thanks,
Joe

Yeah, the warm-up on cold tires was ~3 laps so I figured cutting two cold tire laps off my time was also a good thing. I could run faster on worn warm tires than cold new ones... great minds... :sly:

I picked up enough points with this finish to give us a Division3 lockout of the front row which is awesome. Really looking forward to the wild card, hopefully your internet is back in action because I'd like to beat you on track not off it. You can consider it brung. 👍

you can't, we're in post-season.

I don't think we have a "cash prize".
The season is over. Sorry about that.
We do have a wildcard race and the championship race. Both of which require points to get into, and there are no more points races.

"Sorry, don't think I should now post the link"
There will always be season 4. Hope to see you there.

If he's interested in prizes he should go buy a lottery ticket becuase he'll have the same chance of winning LOL :D

ps don't mean that in a bad way just saying there's alot of extremly fast guys in that competion and it isn't going to be easy for anyone.

Just thought I'd ask -

How many miles do you all have on your TC MX-5?

I had 2069 miles on it last night, but today it says 1996.3 miles.

The last remaining races are by points invitation only. We will not be using reserve drivers for either race. Also, cash prizes are not allowed on GTPlanet.

You might still be able to sign up for this race if you're interested in prizes. Sorry, RT. *snip*

Yeah please don't advertise that here. Thanks.

I have 500+ miles on mine.

Your mileage went down? Are you sure you didn't forget to save?

Hahaha!!! Fantastic write up Outlaw! lol. I can't watch the video while here at work but I will check it out when I get home! :)

What a battle we had. It really was brilliant. Whether I ended up first or second I would have had a blast and it would have been well earned to you as well.

Regarding the move on the main straight, I Lewis Hamilton/Alonso/Schumacher'd you :). I claimed the line in the middle of the race track, and the natural layout of the track tightened up to drivers right. I was conscious to give you just a little more than a car width to drivers right to sneak beside me if you desired, but it would have given me the opportunity to dash back left and set up for the next "high speed right left" complex before the first hairpin. I "put the squeeze" on you so to speak. :)

And I'm sure with just a little more practice you will learn to get the final element right. It's very autocrossy. You need to nail the entry and get on the backside of the first apex, while keeping the car composed but loaded and then a slight lift to make it unload/load the passenger side of the car as you roll on the throttle. Doing it right is sick fast but it is high risk; you can either understeer in to the barrier an entry, get the car loose and crossed up over the rumble strips, or carry too much speed through the first curb and then understeer in to the exit barrier. A controlled 95% attempt with a focus on a good clean exit is the strategy I employed for the race.

I was closer to him here in Madrid than anywhere else, and I know exactly how I could do 31.7 (though I'm sure that was just a crappy lap for him, lol.)

I didn't have any time to string quite a few hot laps together this week meaning I don't know what my PB could have been lol. I did 2 31.7's, 1 in draft, 1 without, and neither of them were really good laps so yeah. With the knowledge of how fast this car could go round this track at the time, a 31.7 was the fastest I could go. Only dipped into the 31s on these 2 occasions, but was running 32s the whole race.

Looking forward to Laguna. :)

:) good times, you scared the crap out of me, but I got through it just fine, haha:)

Edit: Sorry for double post fail

I wanted so bad to not get lapped, but I screwed up a little on that corner and I lost the little gap I had ahead of you. I saw you guys were having quite a battle, so I cut over where the track opened up. I was hoping to have a front row seat of the action, but I got too antsy coming out of the chicane and fell back too far.

Yeah that was me. Already ruined my own race by not getting in the practice time (just got back into town the other night), then I came around that corner almost flat out only to plow into you. After that I just parked it in the pits, figured I was done for the night (and season).

You actually plowed into me, after I had just plowed into Welsh. I was trying to get out of your way, but I had nowhere to go :guilty:

Cool :) The fastest I ever went was .240 up in the second sector (54.8 split I think) On a 32.13x, but botched the chicane. Taking best splits my ideal theoretical was in the 31.6-31.7 range. I think I would need another 25-50 laps to nail each section consistently enough to get down there. I was still figuring out the "right way" to take the T1 high speed right/left transitional element and braking zone even in the race, and my 32.1 lap had a garbage s1 time. Oh well! I also managed to 32's the entire race even under attack from Outlaw, lol. Did a 32.8 last lap. In practice I did a 32.3 on lap 11! I'm starting to figure out the car a little better, and madrid is a track I'm familiar with.

Are you available for a practice session this week Adam? If you are willing I would like to pick your brain on a few things regarding your driving technique in GT5 and how you analyze/choose a line on course (if you are willing to share such things ,of course :) ) You are the fastest sim racer in GT5 right now I believe- very talented. So anything you could share would be much appreciated.

Cheers m8,

Nick
