Geez guys, there have been random lag/grip issues since GT5 came out. I know you're trying to figure out why, but since it only affects some people in the room, there's no way its due to the race quality. If its a compatibility issue, then u can't fix that unless EVERYONES recommended setting is the same. I've had races where I've been hit with 2-3 seconds per lap differences (a couple cappy races and season 2's laguna seca race come to mind) and I know for a fact both the hosts of those races and my own recommended settings were high. We don't know what causes it so we can't fix it. Nothing wrong with sharing what your quality setting is as a host, but its unreasonable to expect anyone to do anything with that information.

I was just pointing this out to let people know better about this issue, and based on my experiences I noticed differences when race quality changed. But like you said, it could be something else. Nice post, btw. 👍

You genuinely feel the car behaving differently? Causing you to notice a second (less than a tenth per corner) drop in lap time? I don't buy it, but if it satisfies people then I don't see why we can't make all the room settings '"equal".

I agree with this completely. In the one room I've ever had any real evidence of running slower (1.5-2 seconds a lap at Spa) There was no difference to feel. Just when I crossed the line, it always said "16" instead of "15" or "14".

It's all in your head guys. :odd:
Though I still think a standard for room settings should exist, just for the placebo.

Im not the only one that has experienced this. Gravydavy said he was 2 secs. slower a lap last week. He was pretty frustrated. 2 secs. is a lot of time!! So if you dont "buy" what Im saying, you are basically calling me and other people liars. Im not trying to force RT to make the settings equal. If its not possible, oh well, I guess I'll have to live with it. Im just pointing out that there are differences. Im actually trying to help some people understand why they were slower last week. Nothing wrong with that, too bad you dont think the same way.

I'm not calling you and other people liars. I understand there can be differences in lap times. I understand you're trying to help people understand why they may be slow. I was referring to your point where you said you can feel the car behaving differently. Like CSL said, you don't notice it physically, you only notice it in your sector times or at the end of the lap when you get given the time. What I don't buy is that you can feel that difference through the physics of the game and through your fingertips on the wheel. If you can then great.

What I mean by the different behavior, is that braking distances are longer and the car tends to slide more. The car itself drives the same way, its just in a worse performance, so to speak. FFB in the wheel is the same, I feel the same response through the wheel. I dont mean to offend anyone, including you, and if I did I apologize. I just want to clarify this issue, that's all. 👍

Pretty much everyone was struggling to find pace in the d3 race last week. So, we're talking about everyone noticing the same thing. :P

That does sound like it's in your head. It's like CSL said, the game doesn't feel any different, frame rates are good, brake points are the same, lines are consistent... just the clock keeps mocking you lap after lap.
The best way to explain it is that I double checked my car during qualifying and after the race to make sure I wasn't missing power.

Hmm sounds like a different issue...in my experience, I've had the same exact braking points, hit the exact same apex speeds and still come out at the end of the lap seconds behind. If I felt those kinds of braking distance differences, I'd at least know where that time was going :P

Edit: yikes that's scary :scared:

Like I said - phantom lag is when it feels normal, but lap times are slower. In extreme cases you'll see how everyone is just taking off on you right from the standing start (with no false-starts). And then there's room quality thing when cars feel looser/more planted depending on settings. To people who are used to driving at the edge no matter what the conditions are - it might not feel any different.

So how the hell am I slower?!! GT5 has so many hidden little secrets. Damn you Kaz! :) Im sure I wasnt making more mistakes than I already make:dopey: Maybe D3 last week was cursed or something.

Just to add my two cents to the discussion, as mentioned before I have definitely seen a difference and experienced first hand signficant performance drop off's due to lag, connectivity issues etc. Some were accompanied by loss of frame rate. Either way, the bottom line is that going slower, and dealing with inconsistency in lap time during online racing, for a variety of reasons is a fact, and part of the whole online racing experience, kind of like real life where there are factors beyond your control. It sucks, but we all have to deal with it and it's good that Nepal and others create awareness on the topic. In a competitive series like this where most everyone is battling for that last 1 or 2 seconds of ultimate performance, it's an even bigger deal.

Real life has different factors such as wind, track temperature affecting performance. Imagine GT5 adding these along with what we already have :scared:

They have. It's called lag. :P

Edit: Race results updated with color coded numbers. :D

Didn't Kaz say something about weather playing a factor in the game? Or did they not implement that? Seems like some tracks take forever to warm up the tires (Laguna) than other tracks.

We have that now but just for rainy weather at selected tracks. It would be great for the option for hot and cold weather influencing conditions but I don't expect to see that until GT7 Spec 2.0 on the PS4. :ill:

Think the issue with tire warmth at Laguna Seca is due to the surface being dusty.

Next thing we know, there will be tropical storms, hurricanes on the game. :scared:

There's already earthquakes in cockpit view.

Edit: After Before the finale of Storm Chasers is on tonight, I'm going to start up a practice lobby. I'd also like to try out some random tracks just for fun, like High Speed Ring, Fuji, etc. 👍

Edit 2: Looks like Storm Chasers isn't on until 11pm, so we'll do this before it's on...

I have suspicions that Monaco and London will be buckets of fun in these cars. (Forced introduced me to how much more fun London is than Madrid)
