For those that object to GTS or GT7 having Std Cars, what is your reason?

  • I am offended that PD is going to sell a game that includes assets they created 10 years ago

  • PD needs to focus their resources on other areas of GT7 that have been lacking in prior releases

I have seen in Forza games including side view mirror blacked out. Looks really bad. Not a fan of tinted windshield
Forza does not have tinted windshields. They do have an option that lets you tint all the other windows any color if you'd like, though. Still that is not the same thing.

The mirrors are not blacked out either.

Guys see this video

and then imagine how fun it will be to drive a standard car with cockpit view in GT7 with Playstation VR

I guess some cars do have it. I have seen it for long time in Forza games but even on the latest one it is there. Like this one:

We'll overlook someone posting a video with an occasional angry curse. When it's a flame-baiting, angry rant positively laced with sailor-mouth, we need to warn people. As a member with a history of infractions, I'm not sure why you'd think that was even remotely acceptable.

Post something like that again and you get a vacation.

...and that's before even getting to the point that there are indeed reflections in the side mirrors. They're barely noticeable of course: as is expected when one is using a far-back chase cam.

...What a crappy game "review" that video was. Sounds more like he got dumped by his GF and is now taking out his frustration on the game. :indiff:

He can't even bother to memorise the tracks? WTF? Get the Eff outta here...

SolidRev is quite fine. He does have a girlfriend and lives well and exercises lol. However I do see how the video can be seen wrongly especially those who don't know the youtube channel. So really he just exaggerates upon things he doesn't enjoy I mean the video title of that video says it all that he's exaggerating lol.

I am not really surprised that answers 1 and answers 3 have the most votes. I multivoted for these two.

I would prefer quality over quantity. Much like T10 have done. Sony should have better supported PD so they could outsourced in the first place or expanded the company made it bigger and spent quality time and money on doing things right than a business decision which was to save money speed things up. They did it because in their world bigger figures means better and it's cheaper, quicker and easier and lazier.

When marketing can take advantage of numbers to make a product appear better then it actually is. I.e 1200 cars, when GT1 had 176 cars and GT2 added stupid amount more, nobody knew any better and more cars was better and it made me excited aswell as a kid. Graphics and quality wasn't an issue at this time until newer hardware and newer modelling and better programming.

I admit I wasn't wise to hype and marketing and pr stunts. Just number of cars number of tracks and what you could do to cars that fact you could customize. The numbers and features were what appealed to me.

To a degree of truth newer can sometimes mean better but not always, which can often mean something else missing, taken away, not done as well, not done right.

But just so they can add something else next year which old product won't have so they can steal your money all over again for something with a small upgrade or small differences. Of course this is not always the case.

It's just a classic example of how PD got away with marketing gimmicks. Some people will see the standards as a disease that polluted the more modern games with lots of old assets they were really made for older hardware and inferior tech.

I'd want to see standards either opt in as Imari says so people can choose to add through dlc and not have to have them or see them spoiling the rest of a next gen visually superior game. It's all about choices rather than not giving customers a choice.

Not sure PD will see standard cars in this way as being a deciding factor or limiting factor or a disease or a spoil. They just value their old assets too much.

The old assets to them is still valuable and useable content that will speed up the next games. Plus the sad excuse being they want fans to be able to drive their favorite cars rather than miss them. All valid arguments. This is the problem and the disease they could have avoided by doing it right in the first place.

Only problem is this is the 21st century and better hardware, better modelling. In a more than ever socially connected world, people want quality over something that looks bad, market competition shows that no less than premium or high quality is acceptable anymore.

GT is a franchise that has slowly gone bad. And PD just let it all get out of hand to the point that much work needs to be done to make it right. 10 years. And old assets, old ways of thinking.

All great points. While chilling at the mostly better-informed, mostly friendlier Driveclub forums, a thought crossed my mind. If you asked players of Driveclub, or Forza, Project Cars or just about any other racing game with high-quality vehicle models and cockpit views if they'd approve of an additional 60% of cars at last-gen quality (and no interiors), what would they say? Cause the idea standard car supporters always toss out is that they're not hurting anyone by existing in the game, and players have the choice of ignoring them. But if players of other games all come out vehemently opposed to adding a glut of sub-par vehicles to those rosters, then that argument doesn't necessarily hold water.

Mentally, I feel like there's a difference between giving people something and then taking it away, vs. never having given it to them before and offering. A generation of Gran Turismo games has unfortunately created an expectation in many players, one that ultimately isn't sustainable. And I suppose it's a philosophy of gamers and developers now to leave that decision up to the consumer, but to me that's the developer absolving themselves of the responsibility of actually making the game. There needs to be a sound vision, and PD has got to commit one way or another. Leaving that up to player choice is basically an admission that they don't believe in this massive gameplay element strongly enough to include it fully, and they're too afraid of creating a defined experience. And if you lack that conviction, I don't think you should be in the business of making games.

I wonder about GTS. If it is all fully rendered cars. Is it the "beta" beta for GT7.

GT5P was clearly a polished game(as far as rendered cars). Even when the RMs were added in those updates, not a standard in sight.
Kaz said there would be standard cars. He's said things before. I do wonder, at times, if GTS will make GT7 a reset and make Kaz & Crew do a rethink about standards.

Technically Kaz didn't say standard cars would be in the next game or any game. He said, "we're keeping the archive", meaning, in a literal sense, we're keeping the files. That could mean several different things and it could be implemented more than one way. When it comes to PD you always have to read between the lines. GT Sport is bigger in scope than "previous Prologue games" does not mean GT Sport is not a prologue type of game...etc.

I just thought of another reason why dropping standards is a good idea; there would be less duplicates overall. I mean think about it, most of the duplicates in GT6 are standard cars. Drop those and boom, way less duplicates to worry about.

Ooooo. Now you done did it! Half the gtp community is coming after you with that post. :P

We'll have to see what happens. Hey, whatever cars are in GTS, they will transfer to GT7 as is. Let's say the Miatas/Eunos/MX-5 dupes are in. Those may well be what is taking so long to render interior wise. From cockpit view, the wipers have to be animated, the gauges, steering wheel, avatar and shifting animations. Heck, might even have options for top down.
This is all IF all the dupes are in the game. As mentioned in the post above, it's not written in stone that standards will be in GTS/GT7. We'll see.

Im pretty sure we wont see standards in this "sport" title...This is be a small game to show off the graphics much like GT5P was and how The Order was last year. Then GT7 will be a fully fledged game which will be slightly downgraded like 5 was on release and it will include the PS1 & PS2 cars.

Indeed, having PS2 era cars in a game released in 2013 was already laughable, but having them in a brand new PS4 game would be outright ridiculous so i don't think PD will be that silly.

Besides they already have plenty of premium models they can port over from PS3 so those will probably become the new standards.

... it will include the PS1 & PS2 cars.
Let me guess: the PS1 models will be called "vintage cars", the PS2 models will be called "classic cars", the PS3 models will be called "standard cars", and the PS4 models will be called "premium cars" and will have forzavista level of detail. PD will brag how great their game is by including content from 4 different generations of consoles.

I know April fools is a couple of months away but I just couldn't resist.

I don't mind standard cars much, but most times they look weird with custom rims. I say PD should focus on updating the cars they already have than increasing the roster (for marketing reasons). As someone said above me, reducing the current number of cars may help the process. I'm fine with just 500 cars if done well.

No it was not a troll comment, do you know what ''bonus'' or hidden secret in a game means?
Only TRGTSpecialist got me right.

Of course those seriously meant GT3, GT4 and GTC cars must go in their PS2 quality and be replaced by 2020 quality. (the date we see GT7 came out)

...Well, I'm glad that the misunderstanding's all cleared up. Incidentally, I do know what the so-called "Bonus" content in the game means, thanks. Played enough games to know, see.

If it's a small thing like an unlockable BGM, sure, that's not too bad; however, you work your butt off to unlock new content, hoping for a million-plus credit prize car, only to be troll-slapped by PDI with 'em "classic PS1" models? Yeah, I can see these forums exploding from all the rage...

In fact, i woul love to see a PS1 quality cars in PS4 game as a bonus :)
You know that's actually a great idea and easily the best solution i have seen anyone come up with, Keep them separate from the main game and if you want them in as a bonus which you've earned you can include them. Even having a separate PS2 nostalgia mode would work for me and im totally against std cars!

Know what would be really cool if they put GT1 GT2 GT3 GT4 on the same disk as GT7 :dopey: :P The whole trilogy in one disk...........Minus GT5 AND GT6 :irked:
