If it's a small thing like an unlockable BGM, sure, that's not too bad; however, you work your butt off to unlock new content, hoping for a million-plus credit prize car, only to be troll-slapped by PDI with 'em "classic PS1" models? Yeah, I can see these forums exploding from all the rage...
Didn't PDI already troll-slap everyone with GT5 level 40? I mean, getting nothing after all that work...

Know what would be really cool if they put GT1 GT2 GT3 GT4 on the same disk as GT7 :dopey: :P The whole trilogy in one disk...........Minus GT5 AND GT6 :irked:
Supposed to be a GT collections in one disc. Of course GT5 and GT6 wont be there. It wont fit in a disc.

...I didn't really see it that way - the whole level thing's from RPGs and last time I checked you also don't receive anything when you max out your level cap. So that's a fair game, honestly speaking.

But say, you're commited to a multi-race series like GT Champ from GT4, and after a dozen or so 70+ lap races later, all you get are bunch of PS1 model cars, then, well....
I'm just saying, there will be blood flowing in the streets (of GTP, obviously. And some other net forums. :dopey:)

I think they already did with some race (maybe in GT4) you got something like Citroën C3 for winning a 2 hour endurance or something.
Classic PS1 models would be much better.
Also, they does not need to be the only bonus for completing a game.

...I can't quite understand why you think it'll be "much better." Better how? Other than needlessly padding the car count, I fail to see how jagged edged, less than five thousand polygon models with low level of detail can be better.

....Wait a minute, are you trying to say cars from PS1 era GT games must return, not the car models? If so, then I finally get your point.

I think my english is not good enough to explain it to you :(
Think about it please. Just for the old fans of GT1 or GT2 it would be a good fun to see a PS1 models on PS4 tracks. That is all.

This is also true.

Yeah I think I'll pass on that.

Any minute spent integrating PS1 models for a novelty factor is time better spent with modern assets.

I hope GT7 surprise us by competing with Forza level of tuning, customization and what not. I hope its much more feature rich and feature packed with a brilliant paint shop too.

Took out my Samba bus bumper less with over 800bhp, engine swap out and drivetrain swap out, 4wd, 2.5 L flat six, blacked out windows, with 255 20 21" wheels at 180+ mph down old mulsanne. So wish GT7 had modding of this level.

...:odd: You're joking, right?
Wouldn't it be cool to have it as a secret unlockable, for instance as a reward for inputting a certain code somewhere in the game? I think it would at least show PD has a sense of humor, which is something not many racing games have.

Good luck with that...

Yeah, a secret unlockable consisting of a couple of cars, like how Virtua Fighter 4 on the PS2 had VF1 player models as a reward. That'd be great. Not like, you know, 60% of all the cars in the game.

I'm late to the thread and read few of the over 9,000 replies, but...

Personally, I always opposed sub-standard cars in GT because they're old garbage. They look like crap and the fact is that as long as they're there they drag the product quality way, way down. "But they add tons of cars!" Yeah, that's like getting a steak dinner and then deciding to fill the plate by fishing turds out of the toilet. Sure, you did give me more on my plate... but it was literally crap. I'd rather have less on my plate if it meant having no turds. More isn't better if it means more garbage.

So, like with GT5 (I didn't feel the need to buy GT6) the 220 or so cars built for PS3 and the newly-modeled tracks looked great, but next to that were 800 cars and X-amount of tracks that looked like I was playing a PS2 game, and that's just disgraceful. You can't sing praises for PS2 graphics on a PS3, especially when we aren't even talking about a launch title but rather several years into PS3's life cycle. If all we had were those sub-standard, recycled cars and tracks, nobody would accept that crap, but because it was sprinkled (or shoveled) in with some pretty new content somehow it's supposed to be acceptable. Well, it's not.

Shame on PD for having no shame and such abysmal quality standards.

I would personally see the entire catalog of PS1/PS2 models as more of a "We are hoarders and can't let anything go" than a funny little gimmick/Easter egg/throwback.

Just having one or a few would still sit oddly with me because the way things were handled during the PS3 era. I love a lot of the actual vehicles, especially the 60's-70's era Japanese road cars, but it's painful to open them up in the dealership and find jagged fenders and tri-color textures, and then have a giant black box to sit in when you take them to the track.

And don't even get me started on how the dealership/car search could have a page or more of cars populated by a single model due to duplicates. With multiple models.

You know that's actually a great idea and easily the best solution i have seen anyone come up with, Keep them separate from the main game and if you want them in as a bonus which you've earned you can include them. Even having a separate PS2 nostalgia mode would work for me and im totally against std cars!

In MGSV, you can get MGS 1 Solid Snake character ( pixelated face  ) - Late 90's PS1 character in PS3/X360/PS4/Xbone/PC game in 2015. Having old vintage models as bonus is fine I guess, most of the people who used them will be fans of the game.

Back in 2006, PS2 Sega Rally 2006 includes bonus disc of original Sega Rally 1995 Arcade, it became collectors item soon after.

Daytona USA was released on PSN for PS3, I have it and still love it to this day ...

I read that part and for some reason the term "stanturds" came to my mind.

If GT6 had only current content and came with a bonus disc of GT4 it would be fine. Including content from a previous console in the current game just for the sake of fake increasing car count isn't a good idea and creates inconsistency.

They would have to gain each license they used for Gran Turismo 4 back in order to sell it along with another game. SEGA Rally 1995 didn't have much to license, as I believe all the cars were fictional (well two licenses) , so the company could just go along with it...

Whereas with Gran Turismo 4, you have to license 20+ manufacturers, tracks, music, etc, etc.

This is the reason why Gran Turismo 1-4 hasn't been included in the PlayStation Store, as there are tons of licensing hoops to jump over.

...where were we again?

Oh, right. Since that isn't an option for them, PD will have to do away with the Standard cars and risk recieving a backlash. Though if they did release the game with 10+ years assets in it... Then it would be much larger.

The original Sega Rally relied on licenses from Lancia and Toyota. There's only two companies involved and neither of them are known to be pissy. ;)

The problem with the GT games of PS1 era age is that many companies no longer exist, or have switched many hands since. Licensing some content would therefore range from impossible to a ton of work. I doubt Sony will ever see the benefit to attempting it, given the sales pay off isn't likely to be large. The casuals are not going to be interested when they have the new games to play which to them are exactly the same, but look much better. The market is basically going to be nostalgia folks, and that's about it.

Licencing the same cars for every game is a hard enough task. GT5 didn't have all of the cars from GTPSP, which didn't have all of the cars from GT4, which didn't have all of the cars from GT3, which didn't have all of the cars from he earlier versions of GT3. That's just cars, nevermind car liveries (a few of them were butchered from GT4), tracks, music...

Plus, to be frank, there's no point for it. None of the GT games have been fundamentally different from each other since GT3 (GT5 perhaps the closest) and for the most part every game since then has been additive in nature. For example, if they want to recapture some of the great race design from GT4 so people stop nostalgia whining about it... Just put it in GT7.

I do think that GT1 is the easiest to re-license though, since it only includes the original 10 (11 if Acura is counted separately in US version) manufacturers and no real tracks. Music will be still a roadblock, though. 💡

They should try to make the best ones premium first then worst ones last ones they don't get to finish they should get rid of

We'll overlook someone posting a video with an occasional angry curse. When it's a flame-baiting, angry rant positively laced with sailor-mouth, we need to warn people. As a member with a history of infractions, I'm not sure why you'd think that was even remotely acceptable.

Post something like that again and you get a vacation.

...and that's before even getting to the point that there are indeed reflections in the side mirrors. They're barely noticeable of course: as is expected when one is using a far-back chase cam.

Are you serious  There are many such videos in youtube like these where the car look bad but whatever. I hope all cars in GTS look good and no sunglass filter as well in cockpit view. In GT6 after the update I don't know why they added it. It should be optional.

If there are so many videos to choose from, why did you choose the one with the guy doing a bad impression of the AVGN anyway?

I wouldn't mind if the STD cars for the PS4 generation are just the PS3s Premium models, but Having PS2 era cars doesn't give a good look.

What is your argument? I don't recall you ever talking about cars looking bad, more so that they had blacked out windows and mirrors, even though they acutally don't(that would be apparent if you actually played the game you're talking about.) Having many videos should make it easier to prove your point, but you've failed to do so.
