Something will go wrong up front, whether it's a pile-up at turn 1, engine failure for Max or another perfectly-timed safety car that gives him a clear road.

Well there has been bad crashes in both the Porsche and FREC races going up the hill on L1...

Hopefully the F1 lads get on better.

Im predicting first corner pile up with Max and Charles... edit scratch that Le Clercs gearbox is knackered!

Apparently Leclerc has a technical problem.
Based on the tone of his voice, it doesn't sound good at all...

Really was hoping to see Max & Charles go for a battle here on a track where Max can't use the superior Red Bull to just blow by that easily.

I feel bad for Charles, looks like a pit lane start if at all... Dont feel bad for the Ferrari team one bit though...

Charles' Ferrari back in the pits and the pits are closed. So if he can start it is from the pit street. Bad bad luck for him - as usual - on his home track

No race for Charles. Sorry to hear for him

It's a tough one. I'm sure if he was only 3rd or 4th they would have changed it, but on pole with genuine pace? I can understand why they didn't change it and take the penalty, the win was there, probably their only shot this year.

Assuming it was something they genuinely couldn't see from the inspections last night of course. If it was something they just somehow missed or overlooked, then incompetency indeed.

A comment on another forum gave me a thought I wouldn't mind a history lesson on; didn't Formula 1 have back up cars for the drivers to pull out if an issue like this arose?

Wasn't even the bloody gearbox after all that. Damage on the side of the car that didn't hit the barriers.

Serious competency issues in the Ferrari Team...
Strange, very strange indeed. Cannot imagine they missed certain reliability tests? Test under full load on the road can also be simulated?
If there was the slightest doubt about the gearbox they would definitely changed it. How could they have missed this crucial one? They are (also) very capable technicians. Before drawing conclusions and/or judging too soon I want to hear the 'story' from Ferrari behind this.

Im guessing upper management decided to avoid the grid penalty, and gambled to keep track position...

Aah missed that one. Our (local Dutch) broadcaster missed to mention that there is another reason for failure then the gearbox

Edit: after the commercial brake, They said the cause is a broken left drive shaft. Serious? WHo is responsible for visual car inspection? Or is that too easy
