Lando finished 8 seconds behind the leader after starting from P10…

This WC is his to lose if he can’t get rid of the mistakes.

Piastri is showing Norris up big time. That overtake on Lewis was 🔥🔥🔥....a well deserved win. Max keeping McLaren in check and Charles finally getting a podium for Ferrari. That was a good drive by him.
Norris needs to be more consistent but a good recovery drive by him too.

Piastri leading the championship. Stop the count!
Certainly turns the championship upside down

At least Liam was nearly there. If he can just be consistently there to capitalise for strategy or others mistakes, that’ll be a win for his confidence.

Didn't they change this "not giving a place back"-cheating-overtake-penalty from 5s to 10s last year to avoid it?
Lawson got 10 secs today for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. I'm not sure why his penalty was different than the one given to Max.

Stewards explanation of the lap 1 penalty

"The Stewards reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, telemetry and in-car video evidence and determined that car 81 [Piastri] had its front axle at least alongside the mirror of Car 1 [Verstappen] prior to and at the apex of corner 1 when trying to overtake Car 1 on the inside.

"In fact, Car 81 was alongside Car 1 at the apex.

"Based on the Driver’s Standards Guidelines, it was therefore Car 81’s corner and he was entitled to be given room.

"Car 1 then left the track and gained a lasting advantage that was not given back.

"He stayed in front of Car 81 and sought to build on the advantage.

"Ordinarily, the baseline penalty for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage is 10 seconds.

"However, given that this was lap one and turn one incident, we considered that to be a mitigating circumstance and imposed a 5 second time penalty instead."
Wouldn’t have happened if Max had got a good/better start. If Lando had done that the “fans” would’ve been all over him.

Red Bull's demented mewling is just on another level now.

They posted this as evidence that Verstappen was ahead at the apex:

He was already winding the lock off and bailing at that point. Piastri was ahead from braking to entry to apex...

Just the worst people.

Such a love-hate relationship with max at this point. Clearly one of the fastest drivers in F1 history, but such a hypocrite when it comes to wheel to wheel racing, and his team leaders are the worst. It probably would have been a much more exciting race if Max had just given the position back, I don't understand why it was a 5 second penalty instead. The inconsistent stewarding is a constant problem causing issues nearly every other weekend.

Absolutely fantastic race from Oscar. 🇦🇺

Drive to Survive is going to be hilarious next year, can't wait for a mix of all CH's moaning about everything to land.

Well I completely hate him and RB now. I would make the argument he has single handedly lowered the driving standards of the sport to a farcical level. If he left the sport tomorrow I wouldn't miss him one bit.
Most narcissistic driver driving for the most toxic team in racing. Great combo.

Hard disagree.

He definitely has, but it's not single-handedly. If it wasn't for Red Bull excusing everything he does and the weak stewards failing to penalise it, and the FIA failing to either react or proactively implement proper regulations to give the stewards less room for cowardice, he wouldn't keep getting away with it and then keep doing it.

How long until Doohan gets the boot? I was happy that they gave him a chance, but he hasn't been that good. Even if they give him more time I don't think he has much potential to better than Gasly, who isn't a great yard stick either. Colapinto and Aron both look like they have much more potential.

Wait, is VCarb now called Racing Bulls? I swear, they change the name of that team every damn season. (I also still think it’s a waste of a team slot to effectively have two Red Bull teams. Though I suppose if they have the money and nobody else, what can one do?)

EDIT: Why are both Haas and Williams ahead of Aston Martin? I thought Newey moved to Aston Martin…

Visa Cash App Racing Bulls.

So both VCARB and Racing Bulls work

He started work on March 1st, and is focused on the 2026 car. Not much he can do about a car that started the design process 18 months+ before he got there...

Man, between that fact and all the LMH/LMDh entries that’re coming, it seems that 2026 is gonna be a very exciting year for motorsport. Isn’t that the first year Cadillac will be in F1, too?

Williams will start to slip down the pack soon. They aren’t developing this years car, fully committed to 2026. Hopefully all goes well with them (and Aston), it would be great having more competition upfront.

I totally agree with this, but the reason I've quoted it was in memory of Hamilton's 2010 campaign; throughout the year, Lewis was subject to harsher and more stringent punishments each time above the normal amounts in order to try and temper his behaviour and it's something which Max needs - he's been close to the limit of his penalty points for years, he's shown that, left to his own devices, he's simply incapable of driving in a sportsmanlike manner and is willing to bend/break the rules/cheat (delete as applicable) instead of race cleanly when wheel-to-wheel.

We could see that the rot started with Senna and got worse with Schumacher, but Max takes it to a much more dangerous level. As Famine mentioned above, an unwillingness to take more action above what the rulebook says (considering we had a 'great reset' and created the rules of engagement) created an environment where cheating is given an inconsequential slap on the wrist.

The FIA, race director and stewards all need to sit down and say 'if you don't try and make a corner, passing it off as being forced off the circuit, you WILL be punished severely'.
