Forza 5 Is A Major Dissapointment, Will DLC Save It?

While your last post is somewhat humble compared to all your others, this one strikes me as odd.

Although you're talking about FM5, it shouldnt make a difference as you claim there is no big "Leap" from Fm4>FM5.

I'm really not a fanboy type, yes I prefer GT but then I have played it from the very first game on PS1. When I said that there is no big leap from F4 to F5 I was referring to graphics, F5 is a lovely looking game but it is not what I would call next gen especially when viewing the replay and the fact that there is no weather/time change. As I have already mentioned, the dev time was proberbly a crucial factor and I expect F6 will have bells on it. The only Forza games I have played fully are Forza's 2 and 3. Coming from GT4 to Forza 2 was an anti climax, apart from the higher res on 360 the game was no match for GT4 ( which has to go down as one of the greatest racers ever made ) the car models were not as good and neither was the handling, in fact everything was better in GT4. Forza 3 I enjoyed, it looked good, had some fantastic tracks and I really enjoyed playing with the paint editor. What I can never understand is why T10 don't sort out the replay? even in Forza 5 you get the same cam angles every lap, it makes such a difference to the replay when each lap has different cams like in GT.

Simply not true. I play on a 50" plasma and the graphical difference of 720p vs 1080p is beyond notable.

Those have nothing to do with being next-gen. Something like haptic triggers and the depth of Drivatars does.

So then why are you making your claims on FM4 and 5 when you have little to no experience with them?

To be fair, I disliked the way FM2 drove almost half as much as I despised driving in GT4. Neither game was accurate or intuitive enough for me to enjoy the racing, in spite of GT4's tantalizing amount of stuff and FM2's garage features.

We've come a long way since Forza 2, but I'd far prefer easily getting the tail out of a powerful car than having GT4's approach where even throwing the car about it wouldn't really do anything but understeer. Sometimes that's still prevalent in GT6, too, but at least you have some opportunity to power-over in that game.

It seems to me that the trackside detail and things like grass and cobbles have been improved in FM5 while the car models have improved on track but not as much as the roadside buildings, road surfaces, rumble strips etc. I wonder whether people who don't notice a difference are playing an external car view and not looking at the scenery.

I remember the difference between GT1 and GT2 wasn't huge but the second game's shift from sprite/polygon mix to fully polygonised vehicles meant there were more improvements under the hood and wonder whether the same applies to FM4/5. Maybe I just need a bigger TV. One thing's for sure, when I see FM4 videos these days I notice the difference between that game and FM5 and am not tempted to go back.

With regards to 3d models of vehicles in games, we are sadly at the point of diminishing returns. The models in racing games have gotten far better in the last decade, to the point there is no longer much improvement to be made; even with laser scanning the cars themselves. But there are still some improvements to be had, which T10 have managed to make. The things that need working on now, which will ultimately enhance the way the cars look, is the environment and lighting. Those are the places where the biggest visual gain are going to be made now, and those are the things that will help make the games more photo realistic at this point.

Have to question who is the fanboy here, I did say how I enjoyed Forza 3, my points about GT4 are valid, it was a bench mark at the time and in some respects still is when it comes to the structure of the single player campaign. In terms of what is expected of a ' next gen ' racing game changing time and weather should be a given, its a no brainer, you have to admit Forza 5 is very basic, I mean static lighting on a next gen racer? best case scenario is that T10 had a tight deadline to meet and simply did not have time to code weather and time change, worst case scenario is that T10 just can't cut the mustard....

What's the weather like in Assetto Corsa?

What exactly is making him a fanboy? Your "points" are only valid too you, so stop trying to pass them off as fact for everyone. You are doing exactly what you are claiming everyone else is doing.

And isnt that exactly what was said that happened? From what I remember, they didnt want to just throw in some half-baked weather system, and didnt have time to get the physics right. Time change, I'm just not sure.

Not sure how you think holding it back to get it right is worse then releasing something half-assed, that hinders the game in most cases.(havnt tried gt6 yet, only basing this off GT5.)

Don't you read posts properly? I was responding to HAL20XX , try keeping up kiddo before you jump in with both feet.
Question : has Forza ever had changing weather/time ? think the answer is no...mmmm makes you wonder....Also, I never mentioned anything about holding the game back to get it right.

I know who you're responding to. I dont get how that is even in question, or how that is confusing to you.

Answer: no.

So do you agree that Forza 5 is a major disappointment ?
Not at all. I never really minded weather to much, and especially after having tried it in GT5. If they are taking their time to actually making it work, then I'm all for it. Time was nice and it is something that I would like, but still, just because it is missing that does not make the whole game inferior. I feel it's doing much better as a series and is making its steps to move forward. I'm sure if this wasnt forced to be a launch title, all the "gripes" that you seem to have would be non existent.

I guess thats the problem with trying to progress, instead of choosing to stay back just to milk more money from a re-patched, re-numbered game.

EDIT: Although, what they have been messing up on is their DLC strategy(can you even call it that?) That is something that bothers me. Luckily, the game still functions without DLC.

If you like the game then that's all that counts. To have Forza 5 as a launch title was obviously a big deal but the game has definitely suffered because of that.

I agree. However, If that is how you think about things, why are you arguing with people because they like the game?

Back to topic, that being ' Forza 5 is a major disappointment will DLC save it ' answer, no, especially as DLC is going to cost money, to say that T10 has not held back content in order that they can make money from DLC is very naïve, the game itself has been formulated in order to encourage microtransactions, you are constantly being reminded that you can purchase tokens for real money to buy cars. As a next gen title games like GT6 make Forza 5 look very ordinary and with Drive Club I think we will see what a next gen racing game should look like, not to mention GT7. Can Forza 6 be better? probably content wise but I can not see the Xboner being able to compete with the much more powerful PS4 which is running cross gen games at 1080p 60fps with power to spare whilst the Xboner struggles at 720.

I'm not sure how not buying into the conspiracy theory that Turn 10 has deliberately held back content to sell as DLC is naïve when we all knew the game was rushed to meet a schedule.

I'm not sure how the game forces you to use microtransactions when I've reached level 200 without pressing the button once.

I'm not sure how GT6 is supposed to make Forza look ordinary. I think only a die hard fan would claim that it does. Anyone can make a game look great in screenshots but frame rate drops hurt the gameplay.

Drive Club's been delayed for months now. Its graphics have already been criticized in reviews so it may bring some disappointments of its own.

I'm sorry that the reasonable and apposite metaphor of oranges and apples has been discarded in favour of more baseless sniping. Sure GT6 has some features which are not in Forza but the reverse is also true.

So would you say you are mostly biased or entirely? The only thing you've proven so far is that you think GT6 is the best game ever made and since Forza 5 isn't GT6, it can't possibly be as good. Well... you've also proven than you dislike Forza's physics because they're accurate, but you skirted around that one pretty quickly.

HAL20XX, I think somebody secretly has a crush on Forza 5, what you think? :)

Lol @ the orange, I dislike Forza's physics for NOT being accurate. I think Turn 10, as usual, are all smoke and mirrors, I think a next generation racing game should be a lot better than this, I think GT6 is an awesome game and I do think it is better than Forza 5, which is the point really, how can a game claim to be next gen when a last gen game is better.
What is funny is that MS must have thousands of people hitting all the sites and forums with one agenda, damage limitation....not one of those are you ? ;)

First of all... "Xboner".... <---- ahahahahhaaaaa!!! As if XBONE didn't sound wrong enough!!

I think FM6 may be an improvement content wise for sure, but I doubt they'll get rid of annoying issues like the lack of proper pit stops, the ability to choose different tyre compounds or different after market parts... or even something as minor as exhaust upgrades showing cosmetically.

Sure, they had a 2 year deadline.. which explains the reduced tracks and cars. But seriously, even us the hardcore fans, are going to eventually get weary of improvements only to sounds, graphics and physics with each iteration. If that is indeed going to be the case, they really should lose the motorsport part in the title.

I say pick up both consoles and enjoy the best of what both have to offer.

Side note: I'm not touch GT again unless they replicate true to life engine sounds and give the physics an overhaul.

I hear ya. Give them till FM6. By that time, they would have nailed down the Xboner's strengths and weaknesses a little better. Then my friend, they got no excuse. It's either innovate or take a back seat.

HAL20XX Being biased does not come into it, I'm being objective, I think Forza 5 is a very poor effort and this is, after all the, 'Forza is a major disappointment' thread, I've spoken to lots of people who have played the demo and they said it was rubbish with too much slip and slide which you call accurate handling...lol @ the orange
