Forza 5 Is A Major Dissapointment, Will DLC Save It?

@ Speedster911 There is no telling how the next gen GT will turn out to be fair, a drop in car count is a given I think, especially if they want to be taken seriously, no place for standard cars on the next gen and Forza 6 will obviously be more expansive with all the best tracks back more cars and hopefully time/ weather change. I think that time/ weather change should be in all new racing games.

GT needs to have consistency in their future products. And all they need really (to keep up with Forza) are better physics and getting rid of those gosh awful engine sounds. The sooner Kaz wakes up from his lucid dream or whatever, the better!

As for Forza, I wouldn't get my hopes up too much regarding weather. I don't think the X1 is that powerful, and T10 will never surrender their signature "consistent 60 fps" formula. And that's one of the things that makes it truly amazing is how well the frames hold up at 60. IMO, that's very important for a simulator, as 30 fps feels like things are going in slow-mo somewhat and there's always lag present, even though you may have the best TV. You know where this is coming from, especially if you've been a PC gamer at some point.

Nice post FosterG, you made some very good points, you're right, it doesn't matter which game you prefer as long as you are enjoying yourself right? and I'm not saying that Forza 5 is a pants game by any means, its a gorgeous looking game, I'm just pointing out why I think its a bit of a disappointment in terms of it being a next gen entry and there are obvious reasons for that. There really isn't that much between GT6 and Forza 5 at first glance, which is my main point, I was expecting much more from a next gen Forza, what I was expecting I'm not even sure. I think Turn10 have played it safe but they had to I suppose with having a launch window. In terms of graphics comparisons between GT6 and Forza 5 the incredible lighting engine in GT is the deciding factor for me, handling and physics aside, then there is the fact that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I may have been rash when I said I thought GT6 physics were better than Forza 5, I prefer GT6 handling and physics like you probably prefer Forza, obviously you are going to prefer the handling in the game that you mainly play. There is a certain expectation in the next generation platform and so far the leap has not been the leap of previous gens . Then you have the point that games like GT and Forza had managed to produce nearly photo realistic graphics on the last gen, maybe so good that any advancements may not be immediately apparent to the human eye, so in trying to be fair, perhaps that's the case with Forza 5.

Yes, Forza 5 leaves a lot to be desired. However, this happens to practically every dev when new technology comes out. Can you just imagine the graphical leaps between the original Gears of Wars (2005) and Tomb Raider (2013)? Both are third person action games. And compared to GOW, TR almost looks next gen.

My friend, it takes time for devs to get their heads around new hardware, new programming tools and code. Give them till FM6 - I think a lot of good things are on the way.

I'm actually on the fence right now about whether my future purchase should be an X1 or the PS4... the PS4 has noticeably more hardware juice, and it looks like this gen, Sony's console is going to get better optimized multi-platform titles. And the exclusives ain't bad either. But then again...

The X1 has Forza...and I don't want to miss out....decisions decisions! :boggled: :boggled: :boggled:

The answer to original question, is that yes DLC is starting to improve the game but it depends on how much more DLC there will be in the 1st year.

A shiny new Nurburgring would definitely help. It's always been so dull in Forza due to it being constantly overcast. But if you look at the tracks on Forza 5 which are amazingly detailed, then imagine a brand new remodelled 'ring.

I'm putting my life on hold if that happens! I never did like the overcast setting for The Ring. A greeny and sunny Ring would really make my day. And imagine that with the Forza 5 engine, physics and engine sounds....! :dopey:

Forza 5 is a beauty graphically. I appreciate how these guys have rolled out 2 free tracks already along with car DLC. Though I do feel cars should be free that have previously been in FM4.

We have three track DLCs now.

DLC sure made FM5 twice as appealing as it was upon release 👍
Just a bloody shame i'll never enjoy it with the whole wheel scam MS pulled... 👎

I just stumbled on this thread now and honestly, I don't see how anyone could be disappointed in FM5, unless they have a wheel that no longer works with Forza. A fully laser scanned Nurb, the recent new cars...incredible. That alone is worth the price of the game IMO. And anyone who thinks GT6 is even in the same ballpark visually as Forza is off his rocker. On Youtube of course they look quite similar. I don't have Forza but I can download direct capture video in full HD and it makes GT look...old and last generation which is what it is. I have a 50" late model Sony LCD and when driving I sit about 6 feet from the screen. GT is hard on the eyes, the lighting/contrast is off, lots of aliasing, frame rate issues etc. Forza 5 is crystal clear, nice and bright (daylight looks like daylight), no aliasing or at least nothing that I noticed.

^Thanks Johnny, Gamersyde is probably the place to go if you're fed up of low quality YouTube previews.

Huuuhh?! What's the third one called!?

Never mind @UKMikey!

Sooo.... The Ring finally made it... googling shots as we speak!

Feature wise, the two Forza games appear to offer more than PS4's two similar franchises are likely to (DC and a future GT respectively), so if it's racing games you're primarily interested in, then it's an easy choice.

Yeap, I got the X360 for racing/driving. Looks like I'll be sticking with the same.

Although I'm still very much interested in knowing how the multi-platform releases are going to perform better on the PS4.

Just read this on Topgear.com:

Turn 10 were allowed to book the ‘Ring out completely for two days to scan it to their satisfaction. With an all-new, next-gen compatible laser scanning set up to capture every last, unforgiving, terrifying inch. “Laser scanning’s been around for a while,” continues Dan, “and we’d looked at laser scanning at last generation, but found it wasn’t detailed enough for what we really wanted to accomplish. So we invested in new laser scanning rigs and a new process for Forza 5, and most of the tracks were laser scanned.”

I find that last part somewhat unsettling.

They only have a finite amount of time and I think it's a given that the three DLC tracks at least have been. Individual corners may have been scanned at some tracks, too. I seem to recall people saying that Laguna's corkscrew was reprofiled.

No, I want to thoroughly scrutinize it before jumping on the X1 bandwagon. Passing up more powerful hardware for Forza exclusives is not the easiest decision.

Being said, I really don't want to miss out on Forza new gen. At the same time, I want to be aware of all it's faults and/or shortcomings before taking the plunge.

My internet connection isn't the best; it's going to be a pain to get an XLive membership first and then download all that DLC. Apart from the free track + car DLC, do I have to pay for all the standalone car DLC?

In that case, you might as well just look at getting a very high end gaming pc; because the consoles have always and will always be out done on the power front. The only thing that the PS and Xbox have over pc, is Forza and GT. There are no games like them on the pc at this time, and it doesn't look like they will arrive any time soon. On PC it is pure racing or nothing. By all accounts, the biggest advantage that the PS4 has over the X1, is that GDDR5. The APU in both systems is relatively the same for the most part, with the PS4's only edging ahead slightly. Ive always have consoles and PC's for as long as I can remember, and I have never picked any particular console for its "performance" figures. I always look at the games, because that's all what really matters; how we enjoy the game itself is the most important aspect of gaming.

True that, couldn't agree more.

I don't need the Gold membership to download DLC yeah? The regular one would do?

I must admit the X360's exclusives are what have really kept me away from the PS3. Forza and the new GOW game.. that's going to be killer.

However, I'm still a bit sour over the fact that some multi-platformers on the PS4 are getting rock solid 60 fps, while the X1 has to make do with 30 fps.

In this day and age, 30 fps should be banned and outlawed permanently. Why devs haven't been pursuing 60 fps as a console industry standard by now, is beyond me. They should take some of their focus off the whole "true 1080p" hoopla, and focus on fps for a change. Highly detailed high-res graphics look super-sweet in 60 fps or higher.

I know these consoles can push 60 fps on most games if not all. I just don't know why every generation puts graphics as no.1 priority at the cost of frames and ubber-quality sound.

What multiplat are you referring too? Most of the differences between the multiplats are resolution based, with the X1 having the lower resolution. The FPS is usually the same. If you happen to be referring to watchdogs on the PS4 and X1, sony where challenged by Ubisoft over that; with ubisoft stating watchdogs is 30FPS on ALL consoles.

And no, you do not need xbox live gold to buy DLC or download content updates (forza 5 track DLC is in the form of a content update); that has never been needed ever on the xbox platform.

As for both the X1 and PS4 been able to push a constant 60FPS at 1080p, that just wont happen with every single game out there. And for games such as call of duty, they run best on pc at 124FPS, and always will while they use that decrepit quake 3 engine from id tech! Again, this is something that has been fully achievable on the pc for atleast 6 to 7 years. For the consoles to match that, they need a graphics chip that equals at the very least a GT760 (or the ATI Equivalent). For the best performance, they would need something in the GT780/GT Titan range.

What games are those?

Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs, GTA 5... a lot more than you and I are not aware of. These are just off the top of my head.

Great, how much is the regular Xlive annual membership? And what kind of bare minimum internet do you need to get all the content updates in one piece? I have a 1 MB/sec broadband "shared" connection. Yep, I'm ancient.

It is sad, consoles are still lagging behind. The year is 2014, and we still have consoles with majority of games being at 30 fps.

You're right, console price tags would soar rather high with all those goodies. I think I'm generally losing interest in gaming.... and just not interested in dishing out so much cash to re-spark my interest.

I'm about to touch my mid-30s. Hmm.... gaming doesn't excite me like it used to back in the 90s. Oh those wonderful years filled with SNES, PS2 and PC madness.

Uhh.. sorry for deviating from topic! :grumpy:

@Speedster911 Watchdogs is the same FPS on both consoles, however, you are correct about Tomb Raider. That seems to be the only game, literally, that has a different FPS so far. GTA 5 is not for Xbox One.

As for multi-plats, NBA2K14 and I believe NFS Rivals are both identical on Xbox One and PS4. It's possible to do 1080p60 on Xbox One, don't worry.

There's so much potential still left in the Xbox One that developers just need to be more accustomed to. The same happened with the PS3 and its CELL processor: difficult to program for, but incredibly powerful once figured out.

They just announced it was coming to PS4, Xbox One, & PC yesterday; until, there was zero indication from Rockstar.

Post some proof.

As of right now the difference between Xbox One and PS4 multi-plats can really only be seen while side by side. If you sit 5 feet or more from a TV even side-by-side the difference cannot be seen.

Xbox One and PS4 ports go back and forth on framerate, some will run better on Xbox One or PS4.

As time goes on this difference is only going to shrink, if you only care about framerate and resolution than the PC will beat both handily and throw in tons of particle effects, down sampling and draw distance too.

GTA V: No confirmation of framerate on either next-gen console.

Watch Dogs: 30 fps on both.

Tomb Raider: Xbox One is a rock steady 30 fps that pretty much never drops; the PS4 on the other hand is variable and will hit 60 at times but will mostly drop and jump between 30 and 50 fps.

Huh? Excuse?

I don't know what he is saying either.

It seems a lot of PS4 fans are really struggling to hold on to this superior console thing to make up for a relatively weak showing for Sony so far this year in comparison to Microsoft...
